The former chief of staff to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) arrested on child pornography charges last month has been found dead, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Jesse Ryan Loskarn, 35, died in an apparent suicide in his parents´ house in Sykesville, Md., the sources said. Loskarn had been released into his parents’ custody in mid-December after being charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service arrested Loskarn last month. It said it had evidence that Loskarn had ordered child pornography through the mail and distributed videos on the Internet. So far nobody has commented on the following quote FTA: "The U.S. Postal Inspection Service arrested Loskarn last month."

I knew we had too many police agencies (city, county, state, FBI, ATF, university, public school, transit, etc.) but this is a new one for me.

#11, actually the Postal Inspection Service has been around a while, since 1772 when Ben Franklin appointed the first inspector, called a "surveyor."

It makes sense--imagine trying to get regular cops interested in crimes by mail, when they´re trying to keep a lid on violent crime in the streets.

A flock of potential 2016 Republican presidential candidates will converge on New Hampshire this weekend for a number of public and private events. The possible contenders will begin to lay political foundations in the first-in-the-nation primary state or expand their pre-existing networks. The marquee event will be the Freedom Summit in Manchester, N.H., sponsored by the prominent conservative third-party groups Americans for Prosperity and Citizens United. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a 2008 candidate for president who is weighing another go, will speak, as will Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who Real Clear Politics reported is toying with the idea of

Women´s clothing retailer Coldwater Creek Inc. on Friday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after failing to find a buyer said it plans to close its stores by early summer. Coldwater Creek joins other retailers to seek protection from creditors in recent months as consumers keep a lid on spending. The company said it plans to wind down its operations over the coming months and begin going-out-of-business sales in early May, before the traditionally busy Mother´s Day weekend. Coldwater Creek said it has 365 stores and employs about 6,000 people.

Remember all those promises that were made to sell Obamacare? Like lowering premiums for a family of 4 by $2,500 a year, allowing people to keep their plans and their doctors, not adding a dime to the deficit, and all of that? Well, let’s just see how much of a striking success “Obamacare” is based on the numbers so far. WASHINGTON — Everyone knew it was a disaster. After Kathleen Sebelius appeared on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” last October, she and her staff at the Department of Health and Human Services felt she had been sandbagged by Mr. Stewart. At the White House, President Obama’s top aides were aghast at her wooden performance. The White House frustration with Ms. Sebelius crystallized by Thanksgiving, as it became clear in Washington that she would eventually have to go. Republicans were brutalizing her at congressional hearings. The health care website’s problems were consuming the White House. Under mounting pressure from congressional

NASA said Friday night that a backup computer on the outside of the orbiting lab is not responding to commands. Speakes thought the president´s statement, "This violence was unjustified," was weak. I agreed. We interrupted the president, who reread the statement, then said go ahead with it. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle.
