Being Black at University of Michigan
organizers threaten ´physical action´
if demands aren´t met

Ann Arbor News, by Ben Freed

Original Article

Activists on the steps of Hill Auditorium Monday said that University of Michigan officials have seven days to meet seven demands addressing lack of diversity and inclusion at U-M or ‘physical actions’ will be taken on campus. Speaking Monday after a speech inside the auditorium by civil rights activist Harry Belafonte, representatives of the University of Michigan Black Student Union — the group that started the Being Black at University of Michigan (#BBUM) movement in the fall — issued a set of seven demands that they see as vital to improving life for minority students on campus.

This article reminds me of a quote by Thomas Sowell (who happens to be black):

"Civil rights used to be about treating everyone the same. But today some people are so used to special treatment that equal treatment is considered to be discrimination."

The great tradition of MLK continues. Emotional, superficial oratory about peace followed by riots, looting and shakedowns.

It all starts "We Demand"

WTH? I´m tired of all of this. IF they want Demands, UofM should turn it around on them and say We Demand, if you want admittance into our school We Demand 3.5 gpa regardless of what color you are!
We Demand, you pay for a gathering space or go to a local coffee shop for free.
We Demand, you stop with Demanding the Tax Payers to give you more and more, they are already paying for your education you greedy snots.

Disband their organization/revoke charter. Expell them.

I´m sure that a white version of the students´ demands would be embraced as fair:

1. The university give a "whites only" student union special purchasing rates subsidized by the school.

2. Subsidized housing in the central campus for lower socia-economic status (assumed to be lower income whites)

3. A new multi-cultural (varieties of caucasians) located on the central campus.

4. More education about America´s current marginalization of white groups throughout all schools in the U

5. Emergency scholarships for white students in need of financial support

6. More transparency about the university and it´s discriminatory history against whites due to affirmative action

7. We demand increased white representation on campus to 90 percent

Imagine the hatred that would spewed at an inverse demand. Such hypocrisy.

Dittos to #3!
Glad that we moved in July to Florida from the AA area. This article brings back a lot of unpleasant memories. From 1967 until 1977 we lived in Ann Arbor, before moving a few miles West just outside the city limits.

Ann Arbor, for all its former glory days, grew stranger with each passing year. We witnessed the Black Action movement, Bill Ayers´ dirty deeds, Tom Hayden´s(Jane Fonda´s hubby)anti-war rants, the Black Panthers, the Black Power salute at the U of M football games, and many other distressing events by the students.

When I taught school in a nearby community, one of my best friends on the staff, a black teacher from Mississippi, told me to "Just paint your face black and you are sure to be accepted", when I mentioned that I wanted to go to the U of M for my Masters.

The town´s name suggests a pleasant bucolic place, with a history of high standards and great people. Dr. Jonas Salk announced in 1955 at the U of M the development of the first polio vaccine. Gerald Ford played football at the U of M and later became President of the United States in 1974. His Presidential Library is located on the U of M campus.

These young thugs are so fortunate to be attending school at a great university. Soon, though, if these kinds of actions continue and are excused by the staff and Trustees, the degree will lose its prestige.

Many of my friends hold engineering, architecture, and business degrees from the U of M. They are all very smart people and conservative like me - even more so. They are furious about what is happening to their beloved university. I tell them to stop giving money to the U of M.

When I was in high school band, the University of Michigan´s fight song was a staple at half-time with a lot of small-town Texas bands. I have no idea why, but probably because it was famous. I loved that UM March so much I told my father I wanted to attend college at the University of Michigan. He laughed. And then he laughed some more. Now, I know why.

They basically want money and who doesn´t? But the worst demand in my book is this:

"We demand an opportunity to be educated and to educate about America’s historical treatment and marginalization of colored groups through race and ethnicity requirements throughout all schools and colleges within the university."

Bespoil every curriculum with racial apologies? There´s already too much crap thrown in off-subject. Do we really need to know Euclid´s politics or gender preferences? It´s no wonder our education system is failing.

The immediate "crisis" portion of the standoff involving the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy over his cattle grazing on federal land ended last week. Whether this will be end of Bundy´s troubles with the BLM, who have been in court with him over his refusal to pay fees to them for decades, remains to be seen, with the Bundys reporting that they´ve received registered mail from the BLM this week that they haven´t opened yet. That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

WASHINGTON — Daniel Swalm was researching his family when he came across a disturbing episode in immigration history. That discovery would lead to a move in the U.S. Senate to apologize for action the nation took more than a century ago. Swalm discovered that under an obscure 1907 law, his grandmother Elsie, born and raised in Minnesota, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship after marrying an immigrant from Sweden. Swalm had never heard of the Expatriation Act that required a U.S.-born woman who married a foreigner to "take the nationality of her husband." This “Open Letter to the Friends of Ukraine,” by a guest columnist who writes under the pen name of Irina Gokieli, dated April 19, offers the author’s pessimistic scenario of forthcoming events in what Vladimir Putin now calls “NewRussia.” “NewRussia” encompasses southeastern Ukraine and parts of Moldova. She predicts an invasion by regular Russian troops near the end of the first week of May under the pretext of restoring order, although she does not rule out, as an alternative, an alliance of Putin with certain Ukrainian politicians and oligarchs. Notably the author makes a persuasive case that the long-term consequences

Attorney General Eric H. Holder was reminded during a recent congressional hearing that he has been held in “contempt of Congress” — for nonproduction of subpoenaed documents. He interrupted with a personal rebuke of his questioner. Later, he suggested that questioning of his leadership, nonresponsiveness to congressional oversight, and referring to the contempt vote was evidence of racism. The accusation was made a second time, perhaps as a political stratagem, by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Let’s stop there — and stop the deflection, too. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts.
