The Most Expensive, the Most Corrupt, and
the Most Dangerous Olympics in History

PJ Media, by Rick Moran

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 1/21/2014 4:48:11 AM

There is a good summation of the problems with the Sochi Winter Olympics by Frances Weaver in The Week today. It’s about what you’d expect from modern day Russia ruled by former KGB agent Vladamir Putin. In fact, the Olympic movement hasn’t seen anything remotely like it. First, the cost: $51 billion. By contrast, the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 cost around $8 billion. And Putin, who showed up in Guatemala in 2007 to personally lobby the IOC for Sochi, received the bid largely because he promised to spend $12 billion. How does $12 billion turn into $51 billion? Attempting to stage winter events

A great article that points out the money side of games. After reading about the terrorist angle, I fear that many who would otherwise not bother, will watch it now for the same reason that many watch NASCAR.

FTA: ´´ How does $12 billion turn into $51 billion?´´

Easy, get government involved in ANY program in ANY country and this is what happens. It´s free money from the taxpayers, so, spend away. Try this crap in private business.

I admit I will watch because I much prefer the winter games over the summer - but I´ll watch the BBC coverage. Nearly every competitor (which the organizers claim is the point) shown, little or no favoritism.

Contrast this with NBC´s mindless jingoism, and their arrogant, cynical premeditated ´America´s darling´ routine in which skating poppets or skiers are force-fed to the nation. Oh, and one commercial and ´coming up´ after another.

Both broadcasters, however, fearful of running afoul of the IOC, will make scant mention of the problems.

A real-estate honcho and amateur painter — furious that this ex-girlfriend was dating someone else — allegedly slipped into her Tribeca apartment and drew penises on his own artwork, sources said Monday. Sean Ludwick, 41, managing partner at Manhattan-based Black House Development, also allegedly knifed the words “Studio Art” onto two stools and splashed the rest of the paint on the floor at the home of Lana Trevisan, 40, in a drunken rage on Feb. 17. “I became unhappy when I found out she was having an affair,” Ludwick, 41, told The Post before his appearance Monday in Manhattan Criminal

The First Amendment has three parts to it: the protection of religious freedom, the protection of speech and press, and the protection of the people’s right to assembly and petition. In all three categories, the Obama administration’s record is outrageous: it has forced the religious to finance free contraceptives, treated some journalists as potential criminals, and sought to undermine political speech and action through “campaign finance reform” and IRS harassment. Conforming to the Obama administration’s pattern of disregarding the First Amendment in total is this month’s news: a Federal Communications Commission plan, now thwarted, to gather information on newsroom practices.

In his new book, Ralph Nader calls for the end of “unconstitutional wars and unchecked militarism” — and lays blame on President Barack Obama for going beyond even George W. Bush. Nader writes in “Unstoppable” that Obama “has extended the Bush doctrine by declaring his unilateral right, as secret prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner, to destroy anybody, anywhere in the world, including American citizens, suspected to be engaged in alleged terrorist activities, all this vaguely and loosely defined as anti-U.S. security.” He continues, “Inspired by the military actions of the Clinton administration, the Obama and Bush teams made a seamless transition

WASHINGTON — As the Obama administration raced to meet its self-imposed deadline for online health insurance markets, security experts working for the government worried that state computer systems could become a back door for hackers. Documents provided to The Associated Press show that more than two-thirds of state systems that were supposed to tap into federal computers to verify sensitive personal information for coverage were initially rated as "high risk" for security problems. Back-door attacks have been in the news, since the hackers who stole millions of customers´ credit and debit card numbers from Target are believed to have gained access through

Eureka! A husband and wife are reveling in their good fortune after finding $10 million in rare gold coins buried on their property in Northern California. The gold country discovery is thought to be the largest of its kind in U.S. history, according to David Hall, co-founder of Professional Coin Grading Service, which authenticated the find. "It´s quite a story. People were walking along on their property in Northern California, noticed something, began digging and they found cans of gold coins," Hall said. "It should have happened to you and me." The coins were unearthed in February 2013 by the husband and wife, who

KING CITY, Calif. — One-third of a central California town´s police force was taken off duty after several officers were arrested in a scheme to take for themselves the impounded cars of some poor Hispanic residents, authorities said. In the scheme, vehicles were impounded and towed, and when the car owners couldn´t pay the fees, the vehicles were sold or given away for free to some officers, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo said Tuesday. Four King City officers — including the recently retired police chief and the acting chief — have been arrested in the scheme, and two others were also

Some TurboTax customers are mad at Intuit, maker of the popular tax-prep software, because they´ve finished their returns but are unable to file. Their anger is misplaced. They should blame the Internal Revenue Service, along with the 111th Congress and President Obama for enacting and signing the tax increase with which TurboTax can´t yet comply. Would Jesus bake a cake for a gay wedding? It’s a weird question, but we do live in interesting times. And believe it or not, this has become one of the most heated debates of the week. That’s because, this week, liberal Christians pushed the argument that legislation allowing Christian florists and bakers to decline to work for same-sex weddings is tantamount to Jim Crow laws. The analogy is a stretch. Sexual orientation is not race — and permitting what would most definitely be a very small number of observant Christians to exercise their right of conscience is vastly different from pervasive

The progressive mind functions by means of mythic narratives that have tenuous connections to reality. Cops shoot a black man, and Eugene Robinson of The Washington Post begs “please don’t shoot me,” indulging the myth of a lethal American racism endangering black people’s lives, even though black offenders kill 90% of black murder victims, and 85% of interracial crime is perpetuated by blacks against whites. It has the makings of a royal mess for “King Barack.” Monday morning’s Supreme Court argument about the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases went badly for the Obama administration — so much so that the real question before the justices seemed to be how severe the EPA’s loss would be. The administration’s solicitor general, Donald Verrilli, pleaded with the justices to recognize the “urgent problem” of climate change, because the “threat to future generations gets worse” with each passing year. But as the argument played out, the court’s swing justice, Anthony Kennedy, made clear that he

Compared with how the Obama administration has swept under the rug the Benghazi attacks of September 11, 2012, Nixon’s attempt to cover up the Watergate burglary was rank amateurism. To be fair, Nixon’s team of Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, and Dean were not in the same league as Obama’s, which includes not only his cabinet but most of the national media and much of Congress. If a president were intent on covering something up—something big, such as an illegal gun walking operation to Mexico or a dereliction
