Boehner, Pelosi losing their right-

Washington Post, by Paul Kane

In the raft of recent retirement announcements on Capitol Hill, none may be more important than those of Reps. Tom Latham (R-Iowa) and George Miller (D-Calif.). The two couldn’t be more different. One is a quiet, conservative Midwesterner with a penchant for golf and cigarettes; the other a garrulous California liberal with a fiery streak. What Latham and Miller share is the ability to give wise counsel to the two most powerful figures in the House, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).Each is first among equals as a trusted confidant to his party’s leader. Ha!!! What a hoot. Is that who advises Bonehead to be a sell out at every turn? And declare war on his own constituents?

Having Pelosi, Reid and Boehner as leaders certainly reflects on the quality and integrity of their voters. I´m not impressed.

Sarah Palin´s husband said that his wife would win a presidential election "hands down" if the media covered Republicans and Democrats fairly and without bias. When asked in an interview on Inside Edition that aired Tuesday, Todd Palin suggested that if the media were not like WWE referees who try to swing the outcome of matches, Palin would win a presidential election in a landslide. Todd said that Sarah "would win hands down, in my mind, if the media did their job and presented each candidate on experience and their policy and their ideas." When asked if he would potentially

WASHINGTON — President Obama has added an item to his agenda for Presidents’ Day weekend: The leader of the free world is looking forward to binge-watching DVDs of his latest favorite television show: HBO’s edgy new “True Detective” series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Mr. Obama made a point of approaching HBO’s chief executive, Richard Plepler, at the state dinner for France on Tuesday night. “Where is my True Detective and Game of Thrones?” Mr. Obama asked Mr. Plepler as he told him that the coming weekend would be a good time to have the DVDs. Thought experiment: What would the media and the Left (but I repeat. . .) be saying if President Romney was rewriting Obamacare on his own executive authority, delaying the business mandate, etc.? My guess is they’d be screaming for Romney’s impeachment. Turns out National Review‘s Charles Cooke was way ahead of me—well, at least a day ahead of me—with this same inquiry. Only he fleshes it out in more detail: Washington D. C. — In a move certain to please his conservative supporters and infuriate his critics, President Romney announced this afternoon that his administration would make yet another change to

Late last week came the news that Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation have agreed to pay $2 million in a wrongful death settlement to the surviving young son of a woman who died after an abortion at a Chicago Planned Parenthood in 2012. This is huge news, no? Were this a settlement to a family whose loved one died because a hospital refused her an abortion, it would be broadcast everywhere. On July 20, 2012, 24-year-old Tonya Reaves, pictured right, died after a late-term abortion at Planned Parenthood’s Loop Health Center from uncontrolled bleeding,

People misunderstood New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo when he said conservatives “have no place in the state of New York,” the Democratic governor explained Wednesday. “I was not saying anyone should leave the state, right? And anyone who heard the comments knows that’s not what I was saying,” Cuomo said when asked about his comments at a press conference. “To the extent people want to have a political dialogue, that’s what it is.” Cuomo came under fire from conservatives last month when he said “extreme conservatives, who are right-to-life, pro-assault weapon, anti-gay … have no place in the state of

When President Barack Obama took an unplanned stop on the tour of Thomas Jefferson’s home Monday, he joked to French President Francois Hollande, “That’s the good thing as a president -- I can do whatever I want.” The remark made headlines because Obama’s critics have long said he acts like he really believes that. Among the most recent examples, they cite Obama’s State of the Union declaration that he plans to take policy actions “with or without Congress” -- and this week’s White House announcement that it is delaying another key deadline in the health care law Congress passed in

Why the Media Sees Bridgegate

At the height of fascination with the "Bridgegate" scandal, Chris Christie decried MSNBC´s coverage as "gleeful" and "partisan." Maybe so. However, one undeniable aspect of the left´s attack on Christie is the rigor with which it has pursued the case, rigor worthy of a life-or-death story it has all but ignored – the Benghazi attacks. Many conservatives, particularly those who have defended the way the New Jersey governor has handled this scandal, have been quick to point out that, at its worst, the George Washington Bridge scandal is about petty politicians being petty and ruining everyone´s lives with their pettiness.

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, whose tenure in office included disastrous incompetence in handling Hurricane Katrina (for which the media blamed President George W. Bush), has been found guilty on 20 of 21 counts of corruption in a federal trial. Conviction on all counts could have led to a 20 year jail sentence and $1 million in fines, but at this point it is unknown which count went not guilty and how that will affect the sentence. Bill Chappell of NPR writes an article that does not identify Nagin´s political party, which is the mainstream media convention when treating

Chelsea Clinton was the butt of jokes at Stanford University in the late 1990s as her father battled impeachment and fended off the national scandal of his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. And first lady Hillary Clinton kept careful track of her experiences in the White House, especially during her ill-fated 1994 ´HillaryCare´ effort to nationalize the health care industry, confiding in long-time friend Diane Blair that she might one day need her notes for ´revenge.´ The new revelations come from a previously unknown archive of Blair´s papers, willed to the university after the political science professor passed

The storm has claimed at least one life, a man in his 70s, who was electrocuted while attempting to move a tree which brought down power cables, Wiltshire Police said tonight. The man in his died at around 3.20pm near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

Michelle Obama chose Venezuelan-American designer Carolina Herrera for the gown she wore Tuesday to the state dinner honoring French President Francois Hollande. The formal, ornate style of the sumptuous gown by Ms Herrera reflected French aesthetics, from the intricate beaded black bodice, to the train and full skirt in a color called liberty blue. ´From the White House to Versailles it´s not that far,´ said Susan Swimmer, author of Michelle Obama: First Lady of Fashion and Style. ´It´s much more keeping in a French aesthetic than I´ve seen her wear before. President Obama has repeatedly suspended parts of the Affordable Care Act without the consent of Congress. The latest unilateral action happened Monday night, when the administration announced another delay of the employer mandate, the law´s provision that businesses with more than 50 employees must provide their employees with insurance starting in 2014 or pay large fines. In July, the president decreed the mandate wouldn´t be enforced at all in 2014, and last night administration officials declared that businesses with 50 to 99 employees wouldn´t be penalized in 2015. Republicans have denounced such actions as "lawless." But if what the president has

Michelle Obama´s lust for luxury has always been a bit of a problem for her husband and Democrats in general. Jetting off to five star resorts with a large entourage has too much dissonance with the rhetoric denouncing inequality currently in favor with the left. But the First Lady has now outdone herself, and because a picture is worth a thousand words, the damage may be a bit more serious than the occasional grumble over designer shoes and livin´ large. After all, millions of Americans are mired in unemployment, underemployment, and hopelessness. So in the face of all this, Michelle

Last November, Mr. Holder, the first black attorney general, told CBS News he didn’t have “any plans” to step down. Mr. Holder has made voting rights the test case of his tenure, the New Yorker reported. He has been a vocal critic of the Supreme Court case that invalidated key parts of the Voting Rights
