The Political Genius of Pope Francis
Politico Magazine, by Candida Moss

Original Article

Late last year, when President Obama reviewed the draft of a speech he was scheduled to give on economic inequality, he sent it back with a request: He wanted his speechwriter to add a quote from Pope Francis’s recent letter to the Catholic church. “Across the developed world, inequality has increased,” Obama said in the Dec. 4 speech. “Some of you may have seen just last week, the pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length. ‘How could it be,’ he wrote, ‘that it’s not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news

There is a lesson in this for 0bama, be humble, forgo the "I" in his speeches. Instead of the multi million dollar vacations, go to Camp David and use the savings to lower the national debt or fund some programs. 0 bama will never give up his perks or try to be humble, but it´s a thought.

I´m far from an expert on the Bible but I don´t remember Jesus pushing institutional charity via the government for example. I believe His version of charity was at the personal level. This pope to me is a pro life liberal, who more or less has to be against abortion and gay issues.

Wealth distribution on a grand scale, never has and never will work, for one thing it kills the recipients ambition to do anything else in life.`These people that the left looks at as victims are nothing but spoiled couch barnacles.

The more money that´s thrown at poverty, the higher the poverty, crime and unemployment rates.

Libs like you only as long as you are useful to them. The Pope gets called a genius only because he talks like a socialist.
You have to know something is amiss when the libs at Politico praise someone associated with Christianity.

Unfortunately there are strong similarities between Obama and Pope Francis - but they are not healthy ones. Neither has the intellectual depth to be in the positions they hold. Both promote policies that have failed and both see society through a childlike prism.

I think the author is confused. The Pope and Obama should never be compared, only contrasted.

FTA: "And as clichéd as it sounds to say that the president needs to lead by example, this is in fact how Francis does it. What other world leader has such clarity of message? The pope’s words are supported by impeccable conduct, not bloodless argument. When Francis puts his notes aside on the balcony at St. Peter’s or stays for a few more handshakes with the crowds, there’s something there for Obama to think about."

Francis can lead by example because he has the Truth and Word of Jesus Christ as the basis of his life. That´s why he has that "clarity of message" and practices impeccable conduct.

Obama can never do this while being an avowed progressive/communist/socialist, and trying to make the state replace God, which is the goal of all true "modern liberals/progressives" or whatever they want to call themselves.

#5, have you read Francis´s EVANGELLII GAUDIUM? It´s available on line and lays out the Pope´s socialist economic views at some length. Paragraphs 52-60 and 186-216 have the most relevant stuff.

It´s that time of year, folks: the Conservative Political Action Conference, the largest conservative confab, where activists converge upon National Harbor to hear speeches by the biggest stars of the right, play NRA games, and see a Ronald Reagan impersonator on stilts. And what, exactly, do you need to excite an audience eager to hear about the constitutionality of executive order use and the problems of Obamacare? A mix of oldies but goodies, like "Sweet Child O´ Mine" and "Livin´ on a Prayer," and Top 40 hits like "Titanium" and "Wake Me Up." Here´s a sampling of the intro music heard at

Pessimism. Fear. Anger. Those are the most common sentiments expressed about the Affordable Care Act, according to a Fox News national poll that asks voters to pick from a range of emotions that describe how they feel about the law. Pessimistic is on top: 49 percent say it describes how they feel. Next is scared (45 percent), followed by angry (43 percent). On the positive side, 40 percent of voters are optimistic about Obamacare, 24 percent are proud and 21 percent feel excited. A 63-percent majority of Democrats feels optimistic about the law, while less than half are proud (46 percent) or excited

A Colorado man´s purchase of $42 of Girl Scout cookies has led to a court date and more than $700 in debt for what he says was an error by a Girl Scout troop´s bank. Tad Osborn, an IT professional in Fort Collins, Colo., bought about a dozen boxes last year from a scout from his neighborhood. He wrote a check for $42 and enjoyed the cookies with his family. Then last summer, he received a notice from a collection agency, informing him that his check had bounced and more than doubled his bill to $82, as first reported by CBS4. He called

McALLEN, Tex. — Shortly before a candlelight vigil on the sidewalk outside, employees of the last abortion clinic in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas shut the doors early Thursday evening, making legal abortion unavailable in the poorest part of the state in the wake of tough new restrictions passed last year by the Texas Legislature. The closings on Thursday of two clinics operated by Whole Woman’s Health — the one here in McAllen and another in the East Texas city of Beaumont — are part of a wave of clinic closings brought on by the new law. That was White House Press Secretary Jay Carney´s description of economic sanctions the administration might impose on nefarious Russians or Ukrainian kleptocrats at the center of the Crimean crisis. President Obama is all about flexibility. Of course, that is a particularly nagging word in regards to Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin. It reminds conservative critics of Obama´s March 2012 explanation to outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would have "more flexibility" to deal with Russia after winning reelection. And once you do, you’ll also understand how Ted Cruz is positioning himself to outmaneuver Rand Paul as the conservative candidate for the GOP nomination. First, a quick, if simplistic, explanation of the principle. Let’s say you open a hotdog stand on a beach — and let’s say that hotdog stand is built on what would be the 40 yard line (if the beach were a football field.) Now, based on this information, you

On February 23, five days before Russia invaded Ukraine, National Security Adviser Susan Rice appeared on Meet the Press and shrugged off suggestions that Russia was preparing any kind of military intervention: “It’s in nobody’s interest to see violence returned and the situation escalate.” A return to a “Cold War construct” isn’t necessary, Rice insisted, because such thinking “is long out of date” and “doesn’t reflect the realities of the 21st century.” Even if Vladimir Putin sees the world this way, Rice argued, it is “not in the United States’ interests” to do so. It was a remarkably transparent case

A former Internal Revenue Service official who declined to answer questions at a congressional hearing, citing the Fifth Amendment, gave a full interview to the Justice Department, her lawyer said. That’s raising questions among Republican lawmakers, who wonder whether her choice to talk to Justice reflects a lack of concern about the DOJ probe. They also question the propriety of letting her avoid questions by lawmakers when she is answering DOJ’s. The comments by Lois Lerner‘s attorney “cast further doubt on the seriousness of the Justice Department’s so-called investigation of IRS targeting, as well as the legal basis of Ms. Lerner’s refusal

This week, the Democratic-controlled Senate refused to confirm President Obama’s nominee for head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, and already the history is being rewritten. Debo Adegbile’s nomination failed to go forward when Majority Leader Harry Reid couldn’t muster the votes he needed on a procedural motion. Seven Democrats — most, but not all, up for reelection — ensured the defeat. Reid has hinted that the vote was based on racism, and President Obama suggests Adegbile was being unfairly punished for having represented an unpopular client: Mumia Abu-Jamal, convicted of murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. What is happening in Ukraine is anything but innocent, and the astonishing incompetence on display in Barack Obama’s hesitant but sullen maunderings has been the opposite of skillful. Despite spotty evidence that the billions of dollars spent on dozens of federal job training programs are delivering results, President Obama is proposing to spend billions more as part of his $4 trillion budget plan. On the federal level, the government already spends about $18 billion a year to provide multiple services to unemployed workers on everything from career counseling to job training and searching. About half that money goes to Labor Department programs. The White House, in pitching additional funding, is touting the efforts as a way to "equip" workers with the skills employers need, at a time when the unemployment

So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. WASHINGTON — Charles G. and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who are perhaps the best-known patrons of conservative Republican politics, are bespectacled and in their 70s. They look genial enough. But Democrats are embarking on a broad effort that aims to unmask the press-shy siblings and portray them, instead, as a pair of villains bent on wrecking progressive politics. On Thursday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is starting a digital campaign that will use Internet ads and videos, as well as social media, to tie Republican Senate candidates to the policies and actions of the Koch brothers.
