The Real Scandal
Weekly Standard, by Stephen F. Hayes & Thomas Joscelyn

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 1/17/2014 5:35:56 AM

Months and months ago, when Barack Obama could be bothered to say anything at all about the attacks in Ben-ghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012, the president promised to bring the perpetrators to justice. That was before White House spokesman Jay Carney dismissed the attacks as something that “happened a long time ago.” It’s been 16 months. The U.S. government has neither captured nor killed a single participant in those attacks, which left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead. Why? A new report on the attacks from the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, along with more than 400 pages

Despite all the information we´ve learned, aside from the disinformation and terrorist tactics employed by the current administration on anyone even asking about the Libya attacks, we haven´t reached the bottom of this yet. We´re getting close to something the WH is trying to protect. What could it be?

We know who the terrorists are. We know where they are. Yet, no one in our govt has lifted a finger to try to bring any of them to justice. They´re unwilling to bring Al-Qaida ´affiliated´ terrorists and murderers to justice, but they go out of their way to terrorize anyone belonging to the TeaParty or who dares to question anything Obama does. FTA: "The ties between al Qaeda and the four organizations identified in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report are obvious and indisputable."

Honestly, I´m beginning to believe this Administration is behind this terrorist attack in some shape or form. There is really no other explanation for their coverup and failure to act. Nothing they do would surprise me at this point.

#2 To those of us who are not lo-fo voters you are right. But to everyone else the NY Times "puff-piece" will be the final definitive msm piece on Benghazi. Until we find out what obama was doing that night and why no military action was taken hillary has little to fear. I doubt the truth will ever be known but certainly not before November 2016.

Imagine if a conservative were in the White House and the same level of stonewalling were being pursued. This would be front page news, day after day after month, until the whole thing unraveled.

Like in the former Soviet Union, we do not have a free press. It´s probably the biggest problem that exists in the United States, for it permits the socialists to do their dirty deeds without public awareness or penalty.

Good report explaining the Obama regime´s reasoning for not going after the attackers but it may have been too generous. Another angle is that they can not abandon the false cause that they promoted so strongly--that it was a movie clip that inflamed the rioters. But very few are following this anymore so the regime has accomplished it´s goal. What difference at this time does it make?

If our President ordered Ambassador Stephens to conduct an arms shipment campaign to the Syrian rebels with a pipeline through Libya, that might be the reason for a cover-up. And a reason for impeachment.

#1, my hunch on this is that the BO Admin supplied arms to the attackers.

The obscure handling, the ignoring, the "it was a long time ago", is a pattern just like Fast and Furious.

Slightly OT: Is every Obama spokesperson thoroughly annoying and self-righteous or is it just me? I can´t bear to listen to their lies and condescension.

Someone knows why the CIA had such a strong presence in Benghazi and what Ambassador Stevens was doing there on 9/11. I pray that they will have the courage to come forth with the truth. It might be the single most important act of their career. The country needs this lawless President and his lackeys to be held accountable, and the families deserve the truth.

I had read somewhere, then heard reported on Fox & Friends yesterday, that 15 people who cooperated with Benghazi investigators have died. The odds if you will, according to the laws of probability, of this many people dying of natural causes who testified are practically nonexistent. I would really like to know the details of each of these deaths.

#1 close and #8 you are correct. I think it is more than supplying arms it is active involvement in the attack with the help of Erdogan and the Turks. Obama wanted to swap Stevens for the Blind Sheikh (one of his favorite terrorists after Bill Ayers)after Al Qaeda would have kidnapped him.

It was all planned by US and that´s why Zippy cannot let this see the light of day; it would mean the big I - not even the lambs in the media would protect him.

Thanks once again to Steve Hayes´ excellent journalism and researching.

Thus the official position of the Obama administration—as conveyed under oath, in a classified setting, by the nation’s top uniformed military official: The Benghazi attackers are not covered by the AUMF because they are neither al Qaeda nor “associated forces.”

That´s a lie, of course, par for the course from this Administration. But the American people have not forgotten this nor that POTUS was AWOL during the attack.

This is a reprehensible evasion. It explains why the United States has failed to bring the Benghazi perpetrators to justice. But it in no way excuses that failure.

Perhaps a courageous few Democrats and/or media people other than Steve Hayes and James Rosen will rise up to say, "enough". But I won´t hold my breath for cowards´ sake.

#7, that is EXACTLY what was going on. The second building in the U.S. compound at Benghazi was a warehouse where the U.S. was collecting arms distributed to the Syrian rebels by Saudi Arabia and Turkey. A couple of days after the attack, former CIA agent Larry Johnson, now at No Quarter, was on The John Batchelor Show with the scoop. Stevens was in Benghazi to meet with the Turks to facilitate shipment.

#1 made me remember that I heard that Holder has decreed that religion, race and ethnicity will no longer be factored into the fight against terrorism. Because that would be RACIST. I didn´t know that Islam was a race. In other words, the fight against terrorism is over and the terrorists won.

Between that and zippy´s deal with Iran, any bets on how long it will be before we are attacked again? Seems like zippy and holder are inviting an attack.

Oh, but zippy is a Christian! /s

This is the biggest scandal to hit our nation in a long time. I can´t believe some of the info in this article! GREAT job as usual, Mr Hayes!

FTA... "A third group identified in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report is the Muhammad Jamal network... Jamal was imprisoned by Hosni Mubarak’s regime, but released in 2011 after the Arab uprisings. He quickly got back to work. Jamal established training camps in the Sinai Peninsula and eastern Libya."

Obvious evidence that the "Arab Spring" was a foreign policy failure and directly linked to the Benghazi attack. The Zero administration is directly responsible for these attacks and the cover up is criminal!

It´s obvious a Special Select Committee is more than needed now. Does anyone know WHY there has been no calls for it?? Are they waiting till after the midterms and hoping to take the Senate?? Do they not realize even if we take control of both houses, the MSM will look at it as a witch hunt and not take it seriously. If we ever needed leverage against O and H... it is now. The Dims are vunerable NOW. Once Hillary has her mug out there on a daily basis, the wagons will have circled so tight, there will be no way to get to the truth about Benghazi.

The report should open everyone´s eyes. Not for what it says but for what it doesn´t say. I´m sure this report is supposed to satisfy people on both sides of the aisle. Unfortunately, the subject of why the CIA was in Benghazi was never mentioned.

Circumstantial evidence tells me it was a clandestine operation to funnel weapons through Turkey to Syria. The Turkish Ambassador´s visit the day of the attack has never been explained. If someone has a better reading I´d be glad to hear it.

McCain has seemed to act guilty to me from the beginning. Wasn´t he the driving force behind our push to arm the rebels? This would explain why this "whitewash" report has bipartisan approval. It just seems to me that Obama was too busy campaigning to be calling the shots. He wasn´t even getting daily intel briefings. We´ll see but it can´t end here.

I think too much time is being spent as to WHO launched the attack. I think all of us here know who did it. My question is who is guilty of not providing sufficient protection for the place and why that person (or they) has not been identified and fired and prosecuted?

As asked above in many postings, is it possible that our government was involved in the attack? Is it too ´out there´ to wonder if our government paid the attackers and/or provided the weapons? If so WHY?

If the orders came from really high levels in the WH it appears to be enough to legally remove the culprit from that job and and file a charge treason.

It is time to say it out loud. This was NOT a terrorist attack. It was simply boys being boys in Libya. Over there, a fun thing to do on a Tuesday night is to go kill gays. No big deal in Libya.

The crime was that Hillary and Obama sent a gay ambassador and cryptographer to Libya. A direct poke in the eye, so to speak… Do you really think that of the 30+ people in the compound that the only two to be killed were the two gays is a coincidence? Open your eyes, people. That is what they do in Libya.

The reason the Libyans killed the two seals was in self-defense.

Obama was gun running in Libya. Sending guns to Muslim Brotherhood and others fighting in Syria. This is what the left was screaming about with Reagan and Oliver North in the 80s. The ultimate sin to the far left is gun running. Obama would lose them if they found out what was going on in Benghazi.

Aside from the absence of justice for those who gave their lives, the most galling aspect of all of this is the calm way this administration expects to get totally away with this crime and underlying crimes. WHO is to hold them accountable? Everyone who should is in on it! The blood of those 4 men, OUR men, is still crying out for justice that never comes.

At the very least, the Obama Administration is trying to cover for its deception on the cause of the attack that resulted in the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. Obama was claiming Al Qaida was on the run to help his re-election chances. He couldn´t let it leak that terrorists (particularly Al Qaida terrorists) were responsible for attacks or he would lose credibility just before an election.

But I think, as others here suggest, there must be more to it than that. I wish these folks were held to account.

Hillary lied when Americans died. Remember Benghazi!

#12 has it right. In addition to the gunrunning, there was a planned kidnapping of Stevens, that´s why Stevens disappeared so completely - he walked into the trap thinking he would be safe because it was a CIA operation to make it appear that he had been kidnapped. America would be traumatized because their ambassador was held hostage, then it would be made public that he was gay and he would be a modern gay saint and then we would trade the blind Sheikh back for him. For some stupid reason, the CIA thought this was a good idea.

My thanks #13 for the quotes from the end of the article. I almost didn´t read that far because I didn´t need all that info to know that this had been an organized attack. Little did I appreciate that the flip side to the use of drones against terrorists was that if you weren´t declared to be on the list, we would just declare them untouchable. We know you killed our ambassador, but hey, you´re not core AQ.

Fauxbama promised to bring the perps to justice. Excuse me, while I clean up my screen from the coffee spit. If Fauxbama promises anything we should now know that he will do absolutely nothing. The more forthright he pretends to be, the more skeptical I become. They are hiding something big here. It could be that Fauxbama was out of the room, taking selfies. It could be that the PIAPS ordered the stand down. With this crew it could be just about anything but what would have been the responsible thing.

We know one thing: the CIA had some type of weapons operation going in Benghazi.

It doesn´t make sense to me that islamist will so viciously attack a weapons steam going to islamists in Syria. Something stinks.

One thing is for certain, though, the Clintons will not let Benghazi stand in the way of PIAPS having her presidency.

If it takes leaks, mysterious betrayals by people coming forward, or even her spilling her guts, the Clintons will do what it takes to lift the Benghazi anchor from PIAPS´ neck.

Here are some things to consider:

There are at least three valid hypothesis as to the underlying cause of the attack and the American loss of life:

1.) staged kidnapping, goal to release the blind sheik.
2.) gunrunning.
3.) goal of killing loose end Stevens bc of something he knew, might tell.

There is no smoking gun, anywhere re the blind sheik, except some previous static about some sick democrats wanting to play nice and release him. In regards to the gun-running: The only reason to keep it a secret was because of whom the weapons might be going to-Al Qaeda. Why would it be necessary to keep that secret if Obama and McCain were overt in openly wanting to arm the Syrian rebels(read Al Qaeda), a short time later? Only justification is because the election was coming up soon.

The obvious, ever so diligent, keep a lid on it at any cost effort by the DC commies gives us some writing on the wall that the truth is deadly, politically speaking and could result in impeachment/prosecutions. They are still working so hard to cover it up because there is still liability, recourse: multiple subsequent non-disclosure agreements for those involved; Hillary´s departure to help insulate her; the murder of fifteen in Libya who cooperated since; the ridiculous NYT whitewash; the ridiculous retraction by Sixty Minutes that a key operative was not on the ground, as previously reported, who had pertinent info, etc. etc.

It seems that the US indeed was aiding and abetting the attack, as mentioned above. More than likely Stevens had some dirt on Clinton/Obama and might have been about to go public. How did the Obama admin know? Well all the NSA spying that´s how. Same outcome happened to Loretta Fuddy: sing like a canary, end up dead.

Good for the truth to come out that we all really know. That Benghazi happened at all and then the fiasco in handling the tragic event is shameful for BO. Unless someone is going to muster up the courage to impeach him on this and so many other impeachable offenses, the best use of this tragic blunder is to mark Hillary with it. I cannot imagine any CEO allowing the Susan Rice appearances without heads rolling all over the place. Don´t leave Hillary out when you speak of this travesty. She has blood on her hands.

#39 - The Libyans probably wanted the weapons for themselves. My understanding is that the weapons going to Syria were those we first gave to the various Libyan "rebels" to overthrow Ghadafi, and Stephens´ job was to round them up. Its hard to give up weapons once in your hands, and hard to ignore a warehouse full sitting in the middle of your neighborhood.

Over 2 billion people are celebrating Easter today, April 20, as the calendars of Western and Eastern churches coincide this year, and these billions of faithful people are celebrating HOPE. The Easter message begins with the hopeful news that death has been overcome by life, that hatred has been overcome by love, and that sorrow has been overcome by joy. The elements of the story involve women arriving at a garden tomb and finding it empty, but even better, meeting the risen Lord, the embodiment of life and love. Chocolatiers love a holiday, be it Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or Easter. The French version of the Easter Bunny is Easter Bells (les cloches de Pâques)—which allegedly fly to Rome for a few days before the holiday to be blessed by the Pope before returning with chocolate eggs for the kids. But you don’t have to hunt very far to find French chocolate and pastry shop windows full of Easter eggs all trying to out-cute, out-class, or simply out-design one another. Good-looking pastries and other sweets are a modestly priced pleasure in France. But like fashion designers, French patissiers and chocolatiers

WHAT ARE the implications for Taiwan of China’s continued rise? Not today. Not next year. No, the real dilemma Taiwan will confront looms in the decades ahead, when China, whose continued economic growth seems likely although not a sure thing, is far more powerful than it is today. Contemporary China does not possess significant military power; its military forces are inferior, and not by a small margin, to those of the United States. Beijing would be making a huge mistake to pick a fight with the American military nowadays. China, in other words, is constrained by the present global balance

The immediate "crisis" portion of the standoff involving the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy over his cattle grazing on federal land ended last week. Whether this will be end of Bundy´s troubles with the BLM, who have been in court with him over his refusal to pay fees to them for decades, remains to be seen, with the Bundys reporting that they´ve received registered mail from the BLM this week that they haven´t opened yet. I blogged about a lot of the factual background of the conflict here, with links to some relevant court documents. This story

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

WASHINGTON — Daniel Swalm was researching his family when he came across a disturbing episode in immigration history. That discovery would lead to a move in the U.S. Senate to apologize for action the nation took more than a century ago. Swalm discovered that under an obscure 1907 law, his grandmother Elsie, born and raised in Minnesota, was stripped of her U.S. citizenship after marrying an immigrant from Sweden. Swalm had never heard of the Expatriation Act that required a U.S.-born woman who married a foreigner to "take the nationality of her husband." Swalm, who lives in Minneapolis, found out about the law

This “Open Letter to the Friends of Ukraine,” by a guest columnist who writes under the pen name of Irina Gokieli, dated April 19, offers the author’s pessimistic scenario of forthcoming events in what Vladimir Putin now calls “NewRussia.” “NewRussia” encompasses southeastern Ukraine and parts of Moldova. She predicts an invasion by regular Russian troops near the end of the first week of May under the pretext of restoring order, although she does not rule out, as an alternative, an alliance of Putin with certain Ukrainian politicians and oligarchs. Notably the author makes a persuasive case that the long-term consequences

TO THE RECENT spate of 50th-anniversary reflections on major political and cultural milestones — the 1963 March on Washington, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show — get ready to add another: The presidential campaign of Barry Goldwater, the most influential loser in modern American politics. Goldwater was nicknamed “Mr. Conservative,” but now even liberals adore him. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. penned an essay a few years back effusive in its praise for Goldwater, whom he described as an exemplar of civility, decency, and integrity. Goldwater was “neither mean-spirited nor racist,” wrote Kennedy; he challenged

A three-year study of how network news refers to “Easter” reveals that by a margin of 500-56, reports that mention the word or “Easter season” choose a secular path linking it to candy Peeps, frilly clothes and cocktails over Christ’s resurrection. “Instead of celebrating Christ´s rising from the dead, the networks have made it about ´egg-cellent Easter fashions,´ frilly Easter bonnets and pink martinis,” said a report from the conservative Media Research Center provided to Secrets on Good Friday. The study reviewed three years of news in the two weeks before Easter and found that about 89 percent of the references to

Construction on Saudi Arabia´s Kingdom Tower, which will be one whopping, expense kilometer tall, is set to commence next week, according to local reports. The Kingdom tower will measure 3,280 feet when completed, which stretches 568 feet taller than the current Guinness World Record holder for tallest man-made construction, the Burj Khalifa building in Dubai. The building will dominate the skyline of the coastal town of Jeddah on the Red Sea. If you´re afraid of heights, you´ll definitely want to know the 200-story building will feature a massive 98-foot terrace jutting from the side of the 157th floor. The Kingdom Tower won´t come

Attorney General Eric H. Holder was reminded during a recent congressional hearing that he has been held in “contempt of Congress” — for nonproduction of subpoenaed documents. He interrupted with a personal rebuke of his questioner. Later, he suggested that questioning of his leadership, nonresponsiveness to congressional oversight, and referring to the contempt vote was evidence of racism. The accusation was made a second time, perhaps as a political stratagem, by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Let’s stop there — and stop the deflection, too. No attorney general of the United States is entitled, for any reason, to escape scrutiny of Congress,

Have you ever been blamed for a murder? Speak out against jihad terror, and you probably will be. It has happened to me three times (so far): 3. Reza Aslan blames me for murder of Muslim woman in California. Last Thursday in El Cajon, California, an Iraqi Muslim named Kassim Alhimidi was found guilty of murdering his wife, Shaima Alawadi, after she had told him that she wanted a divorce. Before Alhimidi was arrested, this murder was widely reported as an “Islamophobic hate crime”: a note was found by Alawadi’s body that read, “Go back to your country, you terrorist.” Leftists and Islamic

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan
