Can Obama Shake the
Media’s 2016 Obsession?

Mediaite, by Noah Rothman

Original Article

2014 is an election year, but you would never know it judging from the media’s focus in the early days of the new year. The scandal surrounding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has enthralled the political press like no story in recent memory. Since the Bergen Record exposed Christie’s aides taking crass delight in the headaches the closure of portions of the George Washington Bridge had caused a political adversary, the press can focus on little else than the scandal and it’s far-reaching implications. But Christie is not the only potential 2016 presidential candidate being scrutinized in the press. “Can anyone stop

The more they talk about 2016 the less time they have to talk about the horrors of the administration.

FBI blocked in corruption probe

FBI agents working alongside Utah state prosecutors in a wide-ranging corruption investigation have uncovered accusations of wrongdoing by two of the U.S. Senate’s most prominent figures — Majority Leader Harry Reid and rising Republican Sen. Mike Lee — but the Justice Department has thwarted their bid to launch a full federal investigation. The probe, conducted by one Republican and one Democratic state prosecutor in Utah, has received accusations from an indicted businessman and political donor, interviewed other witnesses and gathered preliminary evidence such as financial records, Congressional Record statements and

Consider this a quick follow-up to my earlier post on the National Journal “primer” on the HHS contraception mandate. A day or so ago, the one man who might have stopped ObamaCare at the final hour now says he got shafted. Bart Stupak had held out for statutory prohibitions on abortion funding through ObamaCare but settled instead for an ambiguous executive order — and saw his political career crash to an end. Now he’s unhappy because his fellow Democrats promised him they’d respect conscience objections: Today, as a private citizen, I’m proud to stand with the Green and Hahn families and

President Obama called for a review of the administration’s deportation policies to see how it can be done "more humanely," the White House said Thursday. During a meeting with top Hispanic lawmakers, Obama asked Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to conduct an inventory of the Department’s current practices. “The president emphasized his deep concern about the pain too many families feel from the separation that comes from our broken immigration system,” the White House said in a readout of the meeting. The move comes as a number of liberal Democrats have pressured Obama to halt all deportations while reform

Senators are trying to intervene on behalf of a Wyoming landowner facing $75,000 a day in Environmental Protection Agency fines for building a stock pond on his own property. The EPA compliance order against Andrew Johnson of Unita County claims that he violated the Clean Water Act by building a dam on a creek without a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers. Johnson says it was a stock pond, which would make it exempt from CWA permitting requirements. The EPA is telling him to restore the creek as it was or face penalties. Will Darrell Issa say he’s sorry? Maybe it is the photos of him posing shirtless on horseback, or his military push into Ukraine, but Americans in a new poll believe Russian President Vladimir Putin is a much stronger leader than President Obama. A YouGov/Economist survey of 1,000 adults interviewed March 8-10 found that 78 percent view Putin as somewhat to very strong leader. Just 45 percent see Obama the same way. Worse, more Americans, 55 percent, view Obama as a weak leader. The poll comes as the president is struggling with a response to Putin´s push into Ukraine and expectations that Crimea will break off and

Two U.S. officials tell ABC News the U.S. believes that the shutdown of two communication systems happened separately on Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. One source said this indicates the plane did not come out of the sky because of a catastrophic failure. The data reporting system, they believe, was shut down at 1:07 a.m. The transponder -- which transmits location and altitude -- shut down at 1:21 a.m. This indicates it may well have been a deliberate act, ABC News aviation consultant John Nance said. U.S. investigators told ABC News that the two modes of communication were "systematically shut down." That means the U.S.

What would a president do if he were furious over criticism, or felt that his noble aims justified most means of attaining them? Answer that by comparing the behavior of Richard Nixon to that of an increasingly similar Barack Obama. Nixon tried to use the Internal Revenue Service to go after his political enemies — although his IRS chiefs at least refused his orders to focus on liberals. Nixon ignored settled law and picked and chose which statutes he would enforce — from denying funds for the Clean Water Act to ignoring congressional subpoenas. Nixon attacked TV networks and got into personal

Asked whether Democrats should steer clear of the health law in congressional campaigns, she answered, “Absolutely not.” “I’m very proud of our House Democrats and how they have not only embraced the Affordable Care Act, because they helped create it, but how proud
