The Hill [Washington, DC], by Cameron Joseph & Jeremy Herb

Original Article

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) will announce his retirement on Thursday, according to two sources close to McKeon. "Mr. McKeon will be making his announcement tomorrow morning that he´ll be retiring," a source close to McKeon tells The Hill. The powerful lawmaker´s retirement is likely to spark a battle for his chairmanship — and lead to a competitive race for his House seat. Democrats are hopeful they could compete for McKeon´s slightly Republican-leaning district in Southern California now that he´s retiring. President Obama won 48 percent of the vote there in 2012. Lee Rogers (D), who held McKeon to under 55

I really hate to see that. He´s one of the good guys who has fought hard to protect our military members.

Thursday´s edition of the Federal Register contains 185 new agency submissions, including an update to the cost of the National School Lunch Program. Nutrition: The price tag on Michelle Obama´s National School Lunch Program was inaccurately reported in the Federal Register earlier this month, so the Food and Nutrition Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture is correcting the cost. The National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, which provides free and low-cost healthy meals to more than 31 million students, are now projected to cost taxpayers $16.4 billion for 7.8 billion million students in 2014. The costs will

Secret Mandela Autobiography

In Nelson Mandela´s celebrated 1994 autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, the late South African leader and Nobel laureate was careful to distance himself from communism. However, in the original manuscript--quietly published online in 2011 and 2012, and only recently noticed--Mandela openly sympathizes with communism and the Soviet Union, and calls the "US brand" of "imperialism" the "most loathsome and contemptible." Mandela´s original text, smuggled out of prison by fellow inmate Mac Mararaj (now the official spokesperson for South Africa´s fourth democratic president, Jacob Zuma), was written in the 1970s amidst a period of decline in American power, scholar James Myburgh notes

While proponents of the Common Core claim that the new standards are focused on “college and career readiness,” more evidence is surfacing that a central purpose of the initiative is social justice and income redistribution indoctrination. Social justice indoctrination in Common Core is not just limited to language arts. Radical Math is a group founded by Jonathan Osler who teaches math and community organizing at a Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) high school in Brooklyn, New York. Its website states Radical Math is "a resource for educators interested in integrating issues of social and economic justice into their math classes and curriculum.” The

What is good for the goose isn’t good for the gander. Helena Andrews at the Washington Post has this reckless column about Andrew Breitbart and Shirley Sherrod. It it, Andrews falsely states that Andrew Breitbart “published a doctored video” of Sherrod’s racist confession at an NAACP convention. In fact, Breitbart published all that had been given to him, including the portion of the video where Sherrod is redeemed by confessing that she should not have been making decisions on the basis of race. Andrew also published the portion where Sherrod admits making adverse decisions toward a white farmer because of his

As of January 1, students in California public schools have been able to choose whether to use the boys’ rest room or girls’ rest room, as well as the girls’ locker room or boys’ locker room, based on whether they feel female or male, not whether they are anatomically female or male. That’s right: Governor Jerry Brown, of California, signed a bill that took effect January 1 that tells kids from kindergarten on that they should decide whether they believe their gender identity is and act, accordingly. The legislation also allows students to choose their sports teams based on whether they sense

The parents of a 6-year-old girl said their daughter was humiliated when a teacher interrupted the child’s one-minute speech and told her to sit down because she’s “not allowed to talk about the Bible in school,” attorneys for the California family allege. The incident occurred Dec. 19 inside a first grade classroom at Helen Hunt-Jackson Elementary School in Temecula, Calif. The previous day the teacher instructed boys and girls to find something at home that represented a family Christmas tradition. They were supposed to bring the item to school and share the item in a classroom presentation. Brynn Williams decided to

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat considering a presidential bid in 2016, has nothing nice to say about President Barack Obama’s record. Asked by MSNBC whether there was “a single thing President Obama has done that you consider a positive achievement,” the folksy Democrat was at a loss for words. “My mother, God rest her soul, told me ‘Brian, if you can’t think of something nice to say about something change the subject,’” Schweitzer said. The one thing Schweitzer suggested was a positive about Obama’s presidency: that he made history as the first black president. In the interview, Schweitzer went on to

Planned Parenthood’s net revenue increased 5% to total of $1.21 billion in its organizational fiscal year ending on June 30, 2013, according to its new Annual Report 2012-2013, and about 45% of that revenue--$540.6 million--was provided by taxpayer-funded government health services grants. In the same report, Planned Parenthood said that in the year that ended on Sept. 30, 2012 it did 327,166 abortions. Clinics in Iowa, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Montana and New Hampshire also received $655,192 in grants from the Department of Health and Human Services to serve as Obamacare “navigators,” as CNSNews.com reported earlier. Commenting on President Barack Obama’s remarks yesterday that he will not wait on congressional legislation but will instead use his pen to take executive and administrative actions, conservative talk-radio host Mark Levin said what Obama was doing constituted “a gradual, quiet coup,” or takeover of the government. Levin added that Obama’s language equaled the “common parlance of the dictator.” On his nationally syndicated radio program on Jan. 14, Levin played audio clips of Obama’s remarks from that day just prior to his first Cabinet meeting of the new year. Obama said: "But one of the things that I´ll be emphasizing

A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a conservative challenge to health insurance subsidies available to people in the 36 U.S. states that declined to establish their own online marketplaces under President Barack Obama´s healthcare law. The suit, brought by individuals and businesses from Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia and Virginia, asserted that the wording of the 2010 law allowed subsidies to help people obtain insurance only in exchanges established by states, not those set up by the federal government. In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman wrote that Congress clearly intended to make the subsidies available nationwide under

With his memoir out justifiably sliming President Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mr. Gates makes like a greasy, mange-patched rat scrambling atop the floating debris of a sunken ship. “I never doubted Obama’s support for the troops,” Mr. Gates grandly writes, posturing himself as the magnanimous centrist who passes for nobility only in Washington. “Never doubted Obama’s support for the troops, only his support for their mission.” Holy cripes! Only days after we learned the Obama administration had appointed an Obama donor to head investigations into the IRS targeting of conservative organizations, we now have a leak from law enforcement saying the FBI doesn’t expect to file criminal charges. That’s the gist of a late-breaking story Monday evening in The Wall Street Journal. The story notes that though the investigation may go on another few months, unless other evidence is unearthed, the FBI conclusion will be that the IRS was a “mismanaged bureaucracy” enforcing rules “ it didn’t understand.” Without the evidence, we’re not in a position to say. Black dogs don´t get as adopted as easily as others animals of other colors. The reason is largely because of some common misconceptions about them. Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to NBC News. Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes. Black dogs are are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions. Many owners of black dogs say they are sweet, lovable, but also unwanted. The chances of being adopted are poor if you´re a black dog.

The problems with a politicized IRS may be far more serious than we have yet suspected. Sarah Palin´s brother Chuck Heath, Jr. posted the following on his Facebook account January 11th: My father, who worked multiple jobs and faithfully and honestly paid his taxes for fifty years, had never heard a word from the IRS. In 2008, his daughter was tapped to run for vice president of the United States. Since that time, he has been, in his words "horribly harassed" six times by the agency. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wants to ban the term "RINO" -- "Republican in Name Only" -- in the Republican Party. The former governor complained in a letter to supporters that during a recent social media outreach, he was disturbed that too many Republicans were attacking each other and calling them names. Huckabee pointed out that he got a tweet from someone who complained that he was a RINO, which upset him. "With all

She is married and has three children, and for a few weeks last fall, she couldn’t afford her birth control. Her condition, to her, was not entirely good news. “I weighed out the pros and cons,” she said. “But I didn´t want to have another baby.” Susan asked her gynecologist about getting an abortion, but the doctor said she didn’t perform the procedure. For women in her area, there was only one place to go: Reproductive Services of Harlingen, where

Now the bill has taken tangible form. Here it is, all 2,860 pages, including explanatory statements: The House is expected to vote on the omnibus spending bill tomorrow, less than 48 hours after copies became available. No one will have read the law; this is government by press release.
