Christie Trails Clinton by 13 Points

National Review Online, by Andrew Johnson

While Chris Christie’s numbers have held firm amidst recent controversies, the New Jersey governor has lost ground in a potential 2016 match-up against prospective Democratic contender Hillary Clinton. The latest NBC News/Marist poll shows Christie trailing Clinton by 13 points in a presidential contest. That’s a ten-point drop: Last month, Christie trailed the former secretary of state by just 3 percentage points in the same poll. Clinton leads Christie 50 percent to 37 percent in the latest poll. Christie, nonetheless, remains the leading candidate for the Republican nomination in 2016. With 16 percent of the vote, the poll shows him leading

A poll taken in 2014 means absolutely nothing in 2016.

Hillary´s just three cackles and a flash of the cankles away from losing that lead. To win the New York Senate seat she had to go on a "listening tour" because her handlers knew that the minute she opened her mouth everyone would remember why they disliked her so much.

Let me make a minor correction to #1´s post. A poll by NBC/Marist means absolutely nothing.

Further correction: A poll means absolutely nothing except that gullible people believe it and vote accordingly.

A poll is a manipulation of the people who read it.

PARIS: The United States on Sunday pledged $10 million to bolster border security in Moldova at a time when concerns are rising about divisions within the country over a trade deal with Europe and Russia´s intervention in neighbouring Ukraine. The pro-western Moldavan government is pushing ahead with an EU trade deal by the summer despite the increasing debate on whether to integrate with Europe or stick with former Soviet master Russia. It was the rejection of the same EU deal in November by former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich that triggered street protests against his rule after he balked under the threat

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the world’s oceans, scientists reported Monday, and they warned that the problem is likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or

Scientists and officials meeting in Japan have published the most comprehensive assessment to date of the impacts of climate change on the world. Early national polling is supporting the prevailing view in Washington that Democrats are in trouble in the 2014 midterm elections. While Democrats are more popular than the GOP among the general public, the party faces a number of challenges in November. First, there´s an enthusiasm gap. Typically, but not always, Republicans vote at higher rates than Democrats in congressional elections. And at this early stage, that seems likely to happen again, perhaps at an even greater rate than usual. One telling indicator came in December, when the Pew Research Center found that Republicans are much more optimistic about their party´s electoral

The chore of determining who is the inevitable candidate for Republicans – at least in the minds of beltway insiders and the media – is clearly becoming more difficult. Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and

Thirty-three years ago today, on the thirtieth day of the third month of 1981, a gunman attempted to assassinate President Ronald Wilson Reagan. This is not only a major historical event; it is also an American healthcare first: the only time a president was shot in office and survived. According to a beautifully written book on the subject, Rawhide Down: The Near Assassination of Ronald Reagan by Del Quentin Wilber, the president was closer to death than most of us ever realized. Obamacare supporters are taking a bit of a victory lap today after yesterday’s administration announcement that six million people have signed up for private plans under the law, equaling the revised projection put out by the Congressional Budget Office after the botched launch of the exchanges last October. It’s a weak cause for celebration, given that success, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, was originally "at least" seven million people getting covered under the law by the end of March.
