Senate report cites CIA, State
Department failures in Benghazi
Los Angeles Times, by Lisa Mascaro    Original Article

WASHINGTON -- A Senate investigation has concluded that officials at the State Department and U.S. intelligence agencies ignored “ample warnings” of danger and failed to do enough to prevent an attack by militants on a U.S. mission and CIA base in Benghazi, Libya, in September 2012. (Snip) “I hope this report will put to rest many of the conspiracy theories and political accusations about what happened in Benghazi,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chair of the committee, said in a statement. But the 85-page report, which was approved last month and declassified Wednesday, is unlikely to satisfy critics who contend that members

RALEIGH — President Barack Obama will announce Wednesday that N.C. State University will be home to a $140 million consortium of companies and universities that will develop the next generation of energy-efficient electronic chips and devices. Obama will make the announcement on NCSU’s campus during a brief visit to the Triangle. The Next Generation Power Electronics Institute will be headquartered on NCSU’s Centennial Campus. Over the next five years, the U.S. Department of Energy will provide $70 million to the institute, to be matched by at least $70million in nonfederal money by the businesses and universities and the state of

Harry Reid’s Obstructionism

It took a while, but the media seem to have finally noticed Senate majority leader Harry Reid’s unprecedented obstructionism. The New York Times reported last week on Reid’s “brutish style” and “uncompromising control” over the amendments process in the Senate. Why are more people finally catching on to Reid’s flagrant disregard for Senate customs? In part because conservatives aren’t the only ones complaining. Democrats such as Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota — who wants to repeal Obamacare’s medical-device tax — and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York — who has waged a highly publicized campaign to reform the way the military handles

Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) announced his retirement Wednesday morning, ending a career in Congress marked by anti-Israel remarks and violent outbursts, according to National Review. Moran said in 2007 that the pro-Israel group American Israel Public Affairs Committee was ”the most powerful lobby” that pushed for the Iraq War “since the beginning,” the Washington Post reported. “I don’t think they represent the mainstream of American Jewish thinking at all, but because they are so well organized,” Moran said about AIPAC. “And their members are extraordinarily powerful—most of them are quite wealthy—they have been able to exert power.” The congressman

Westinghouse Electric Corp. has entered into an agreement to build three AP1000 nuclear reactors in the United Kingdom, opening a door in a nuclear-friendly country that the Cranberry company has been knocking on for years. Toshiba Corp., the Japanese parent of Westinghouse, will buy a 60 percent share in the NuGeneration Limited Moorside project in the northeastern part of the U.K. The cost is expected to be $168 million. That will forge a partnership between Westinghouse and GDF Suez, a French energy company that will retain 40 percent of the project. In entering the NuGen project, Toshiba is buying out

A letter supporting a minimum wage hike being circulated by the George Soros-funded Economic Policy Institute that purports to represent the views of leading academics has been signed by a number of economists who work for labor unions and leftwing special interest groups. In-house economists for the AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union, and liberal, labor-aligned groups such as Center for American Progress, Institute for Women’s Policy Research, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and the Center for Economic and Policy Research all signed onto the letter, which was touted as proof that the proposed $10.10 minimum wage would serve as

WASHINGTON — A House Natural Resources Committee investigation has found that President Obama’s Office of Management and Budget ordered that sequestration cuts be applied retroactively to funding for rural schools over the opposition of the Agriculture Department. The committee’s report released today, “A Less Secure Future for Rural Schools: An Investigation into the Obama Administration’s Questionable Application of the Sequester to the Secure Rural Schools Program,” detailed how last February the USDA had determined 2013 sequestration wouldn’t apply to 2012 funds that had already been distributed in the program. The White House stepped in and overruled the USDA, though both

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Tuesday dusted off his 2010 campaign message ahead of this year´s midterm elections, saying the central issue for voters in November will be jobs and Obamacare. Standing before a backdrop that read “GOP.gov #4jobs,” the top Republican in Congress argued that the economy continues to lag because of the policies of President Obama and Senate Democrats, including the Affordable Care Act. And during a weekly closed-door meeting of House Republicans, Boehner presented the rank and file with new polling that suggests voters no longer blame Obama´s predecessor, Republican George W. Congress‘ spending bill funds the National Endowment for the Arts, but one art project finally is getting cut off: the official portrait paintings of presidents, Cabinet secretaries and high-ranking members of Congress. For the first time, the bill bans taxpayer money from financing official portrait paintings, many of which can’t even be viewed by the public. That is one of a number of “policy riders” that negotiators attached to the massive bill, most designed to tweak Obama administration policies on items including coal and incandescent light bulbs. Call them ideological earmarks — the provisions House Republicans demanded to garner enough conservative

Governor Scott Walker (R-WIS) is one of those rare politicians who is pragmatic, honest, and actually keeps his campaign promises. Prior to his election, Wisconsin faced a $3.6 billion dollar budget deficit, an unemployment rate of 7.8%, and a 27% increase in property taxes. Under his leadership, Wisconsin now enjoys a $342 million budget surplus, a decline in property taxes, and an unemployment rate of 6.7%. He survived a recall election, winning with a higher percentage of the vote than the original election. American Thinker had the privilege of interviewing Governor Walker about his recent book, Unintimidated: A Governor´s Story

White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer sent an e-mail early Tuesday to preview President Obama´s plan to use his executive power in ways Americans have never seen before. "President Obama has a resolution for 2014: That this will be a year of action," Pfeiffer said in the e-mail, pointing out that Obama would no longer be waiting around for Congress to get things done. "Instead, the president will use his executive authority, both his pen and his phone, to work with anyone to get things done — whether they be leaders in business, education, Congress, states, or local communities," he said. Only days after we learned the Obama administration had appointed an Obama donor to head investigations into the IRS targeting of conservative organizations, we now have a leak from law enforcement saying the FBI doesn’t expect to file criminal charges. That’s the gist of a late-breaking story Monday evening in The Wall Street Journal. The story notes that though the investigation may go on another few months, unless other evidence is unearthed, the FBI conclusion will be that the IRS was a “mismanaged bureaucracy” enforcing rules “ it didn’t understand.” Without the evidence, we’re not in a position to say. But criminal

Black dogs don´t get as adopted as easily as others animals of other colors. The reason is largely because of some common misconceptions about them. Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to NBC News. Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes. Black dogs are are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions. Many owners of black dogs say they are sweet, lovable, but also unwanted. The chances of being adopted are poor if you´re a black dog.

The problems with a politicized IRS may be far more serious than we have yet suspected. Sarah Palin´s brother Chuck Heath, Jr. posted the following on his Facebook account January 11th: My father, who worked multiple jobs and faithfully and honestly paid his taxes for fifty years, had never heard a word from the IRS. In 2008, his daughter was tapped to run for vice president of the United States. Since that time, he has been, in his words "horribly harassed" six times by the agency. They´ve tried to dig up something on him but he´s always operated above board. Government and

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wants to ban the term "RINO" -- "Republican in Name Only" -- in the Republican Party. The former governor complained in a letter to supporters that during a recent social media outreach, he was disturbed that too many Republicans were attacking each other and calling them names. "Many of you used a term that I’d like to see outlawed from the vernacular of the party: RINO," he said, calling it a "pejorative term" that questioned one´s purity. Huckabee pointed out that he got a tweet from someone who complained that he was a RINO, which upset him. "With all

AUSTIN, Texas — In October, Susan, a woman who lives in Willacy County in Texas’ southernmost tip, found out she was pregnant. She is married and has three children, and for a few weeks last fall, she couldn’t afford her birth control. Her condition, to her, was not entirely good news. “I weighed out the pros and cons,” she said. “But I didn´t want to have another baby.” Susan asked her gynecologist about getting an abortion, but the doctor said she didn’t perform the procedure. For women in her area, there was only one place to go: Reproductive Services of Harlingen, where

In remarks following the meeting, Kerry linked poverty not only to terrorism, but to the "disenfranchisement of millions" [emphasis added]: We talked about the common interest of Pope Francis and President Obama in addressing poverty and extreme poverty on a global basis. Last month, the Paul Ryan-Patty Murray discretionary spending bill was unveiled. Sort of unveiled, anyway: it didn’t actually exist, but was summarized in a series of bullet points. Now the bill has taken tangible form. Here it is, all 2,860 pages, including explanatory statements: The House is expected to vote on the omnibus spending bill tomorrow, less than 48 hours after copies became available. No one will have read the law; this is government by press release. The bill is advertised at $1.1 trillion, but in the brief time available, Republican Senate staffers have found that it actually spends $18

Minutes after the American consulate in Benghazi came under assault on Sept. 11, 2012, the nation´s top civilian and uniformed defense officials -- headed for a previously scheduled Oval Office session with President Obama -- were informed that the event was a "terrorist attack," declassified documents show. The new evidence raises the question of why the top military men, one of whom was a member of the president´s Cabinet, allowed him and other senior Obama administration officials to press a false narrative of the Benghazi attacks for two weeks afterward.
