The Ritzy Student Bash At The
School With No Books

New York Post, by Susan Edelman, Kevin Sheehan *

Their school provides them no textbooks, no supplies or art classes. But here are the underprivileged pupils of Far Rockaway’s PS 106 — dressed to the nines in tuxes and gowns for an elaborate, wedding-themed bash they must pay to attend at the insistence of their do-nothing principal. Hardworking parents of kids at the notorious Queens “School of No” — many of whom live below the poverty line — are compelled to pay $150 to rent tuxes at Men’s Wearhouse and buy gowns at David’s Bridal, plus kick in $110 for the prom-like charade.

In case you are wondering why the parents just didn´t say no, FTA “IThe principal made it clear: If you didn’t pay to attend, you didn’t attend graduation. And my kid works hard, so I did what I had to do."

This principal has to have been stealing from the school to pay for the BMW, fur coat, etc.

There has to be more to this "School of No" business. A principal doesn´t have such power w/o enablers.

Unions, PTA, school board, or any local pol or activist, can raise a stink and head for a court in minutes.

So what gives?

FTA: PS 106 was dubbed the “School of No” for lacking gym and art classes, and having no reading, writing or math books for the rigorous Common Core curriculum.

Read it and weep.
School of ´No´ is appropriate.
No skills.
No education.

Have a look (her photo in furs is here):

"Worst principal finally shows up on time as probers descend"

An excerpt:

“School of No” Principal Marcella Sills finally dragged herself into class on time Monday — sauntering through the doors at 7:30 a.m. in a bid to look good for investigators probing her failing and dilapidated PS 106.

“She hasn’t shown up that early in six or seven years,” a source said of the fur-clad boss of the Far Rockaway, Queens, school.

Under fire for allegedly abandoning the school she’s supposed to run, principal Marcella Sills chose to wear an expensive fur coat on a day she knew investigators would be visiting.Photo: Wayne Carrington

Deputy Schools Chancellor Dorita Gibson leaves PS 106 Monday, after a vist prompted by Post exposes documenting conditions there.Photo: Ellis Kaplan

The school, located in Far Rockaway, has no art or gym classes, and students are frequently plopped in front of movie screens instead of learning.

Sills appeared to be scrambling like a failing student at finals time to put on a show for the city Department of Education probers who showed up following a series of Post exposés.

All any parent (fearing retribution) had to do was have a friend or relative with a different last name notify the Inspector General of the Dept. of Education about the putrid conditions of the school, and the principal´s threats about her "prom." If she falsified her time cards, she´s toast.

Failing that, an anonymous letter to the NY Post would have sufficed. As it is, the Post broke the story. Perhaps a parent finally did drop a line.

New Army regulations meant to help standardize and professionalize soldiers’ appearance are now coming under criticism by some black military women, who say changes in the hair requirement are racially biased. The Army earlier this week issued new appearance standards, which included bans on most twists, dreadlocks and large cornrows, all styles used predominantly by African-American women with natural hairstyles. More than 11,000 people have signed a White House petition asking President Barack Obama, the commander in chief, to have the military review the regulations to allow for “neat and maintained natural hairstyles.”

Albuquerque’s mayor said that a more than 10-hour protest over recent police shootings turned from peaceful into “mayhem,” as officers in riot gear clashed with hundreds of protesters who blocked traffic, tried to get on freeways and shouted anti-police slogans. Mayor Richard Berry said Sunday that one officer was injured, rocks were thrown and at one point protesters trapped police in a vehicle and tried to break the windows, the Albuquerque Journal reported. An Associated Press reporter saw gas canisters being thrown outside police headquarters and Albuquerque police and Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies charging at the protesters late Sunday, which

School officials called police, who charged him with illegal conveyance of a weapon onto a school ground based on the three-inch knife. “I declined to allow them to

A federal agent who shows up unannounced at a building along a Texas highway might be looking for any number of things: illicit drugs or immigration violations, say, or illegal firearms.Or fluorescent lights. Which was what the agent had in mind who walked into the Perfect Cuts salon in San Antonio last July. The lights were violating communications regulations. The agent had used signal-tracking equipment to home in on the offenders and told the owner, Ronald Bethany, that his lights emitted radio signals that interfered with an AT&T cellphone tower.

DOE says its energy-scoring software -- called the Home Energy Scoring Tool -- is like a vehicle´s mile-per-gallon rating because it allows homeowners to compare the energy performance of their homes to other homes nationwide. It also provides homeowners with suggestions for improving their homes´ efficiency. The software is part of the government´s effort to reduce the nation´s energy consumption; but it´s also billed as a way to keep home-retrofitting going, at a time when stimulus funds for weather-proofing

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports.
