What do liberal Catholics want?
The Week, by Damon Linker

Original Article

Posted By:mitzi, 1/15/2014 10:30:36 AM

A few months ago, I wrote a cover story for The New Republic about Pope Francis, assessing what reforms, if any, we could expect from the Roman Catholic Church under his leadership. I was impressed with the new pontiff´s gestures of modesty and expressions of loving acceptance for all — for gays ("Who am I to judge?"), for Muslims, for atheists, and especially for the poor. I also took note of early signs that Francis would attempt significant reform of the Vatican bureaucracy (the Curia). I was far more skeptical that the new pope would attempt to reform or revise

When will these people understand:

1. What the word doctrine means
2. That the Pope can´t change doctrine (revealed truth)
3. You can´t apply political labels to the Catholic Church.

These "liberal Catholics" need to read John 8:11.

Especially the last words of Jesus in that verse.

Liberal Catholics want the same thing everybody else wants: to eat their cake and have it too.

We learn at a very early age that this is seldom possible. It is one of the great tragedies of existence. Life is permanently altered by this realization, which usually sets in before age 5 in the normal child.

It is seldom possible - but occasionally it can be achieved. Modern American Catholicism is one example of this extremely rare event. One may, of course, question whether such Catholics are "real" Catholics - but that is to miss the subjective point, which is, as far as they are concerned, they are eating their cake and having it too, i.e. enjoying the best of both the sacred and profane worlds. This is not something one comes across every day.

Catholics worldwide need to militarize. Have their own army. Require military training for young adults, and prepare to defend, and in some cases carry out crusades.

"Liberal" Catholics? There are only Roman or Orthodox Catholics. But the silly, stupid and ignorant American press thinks of everything as politics and thinks a Pope is like a politician. To sight the most obvious example: Marriage is a SACRAMENT. Homosexual acts (acts, not people) is a SIN. No Pope can change a sin into a sacrament.

Damon Linker has an agenda. I just read the blurb at Amazon on one of his books. The Religion Test.

Along the way, he clearly explains, among other topics, why the government in a religiously tolerant society must not promote a uniform, absolute code of ethics and behavior; why the conviction that America is worthy of divine attention is dangerous; and why the liberal position on the political deregulation of sex is our nation’s only hope for conciliation.

A Tea Party candidate became the first ever state senator in Pennsylvania to win as a write-in candidate on Tuesday in a special election that showed how dissatisfied voters are, even at the local level, with both organized political parties. During the campaign, conservative Republican Scott Wagner was blistered by establishment Republicans that he accused of "orchestrating the special election in such a way to hand the seat, vacated by Mike Waugh in January," to the establishment Republican candidate Ron Miller. According to the Patriot-News, Wagner captured 48 percent of the vote in York County while Democrat Linda Small got 26

A new poll shows Latinos -- a fast-growing and key demographic in American elections -- aren´t as fond of Obamacare as they once were. The Pew Research Center poll showed Hispanics are split on whether they approve of President Obama´s health-care law, with 47 percent approving and 47 percent disapproving. The numbers are notable because Latinos have generally been among the health-care law´s chief supporters. Other polls have shown they supported the law by a 2-to-1 margin, and a September 2013 poll, before the law´s implementation, showed 61 percent of Hispanics approved of it. The American Physical Society (APS) has signalled a dramatic turnabout in its position on "climate change" by appointing three notorious climate skeptics to its panel on public affairs (POPA). Two sisters, 16 and 21, and members of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, were holding a pro-life sign while demonstrating at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A choppy cell phone video caught the scene: Students hurl obscenities at the young girls while a large, imposing woman, with two accomplices in tow, march off with the sign, having ripped it from one girl´s hands. Politicians make good liars because they manage to convince themselves they are telling the truth, a study has revealed. And this has also made it easier to hoodwink the public because the best liars are the ones who do not realise they are lying, said the study. From Watergate to weapons of mass destruction (WMD), world leaders have been guilty of untruths whether it is blatant lies or honest mistakes, it claims. But they may have fooled themselves into believing, for instance, that Iraq had WMD because it is what they wanted to believe, said political professor Dr Anna Galeotti.
