Democrats Plan to Pressure
TV Networks Into

National Journal, by Ben Geman

Original Article

Posted By:happywarrior, 1/14/2014 4:56:18 PM

Senate Democrats pledging to get more aggressive on climate change will soon pressure the major TV networks to give the topic far greater attention on the Sunday talking-head shows. Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, are gathering colleagues´ signatures on a letter to the networks asserting that they´re ignoring global warming. "It is beyond my comprehension that you have ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, that their Sunday shows have discussed climate change in 2012, collectively, for all of eight minutes," Sanders said, citing analysis by the liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America.

What if the American people turn out not to be as stupid as the democrats (aka communists) think? I know it´s a long shot but you never know. After all, Scott Walker got elected in Wisconsin and you can´t get more communist than Madison.

Following Republican David Jolly’s win over Democrat Alex Sink in last week’s special election in Florida, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has revealed the number one word that fires up GOP voters. But more on that later. P.S. It’s not “Obama” or “ObamaCare.” The NRCC recently described to National Journal a first-of-its-kind political operation deployed on behalf of the Republican congressional candidate. The system is referred to as “Honeybadger”:

The southern Indian Ocean, where investigators suspect missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 may have come down, is one place where a commercial airliner can crash without a ship spotting it, a radar plotting it or even a satellite picking it up. The empty expanse of water is one of the most remote places in the world and also one of the deepest, posing potentially enormous challenges for the international search effort focusing on the area, one of several possible crash sites. Even Australia, which has island territories in the Indian Ocean and sends rescue planes to pluck stricken yachtsmen from

A Health and Human Services official has resigned after dealing with the frustration of the “profoundly dysfunctional” federal bureaucracy, which left him “offended as an American taxpayer.” In a resignation letter obtained by ScienceInsider, David Wright, director of the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) — which oversees and monitors possible research misconduct — offers a scathing rebuke of the unwieldy and inefficient bureaucracy that he dealt with for the two years he served in the position. Rep. Paul Ryan’s bid to kick off an overhaul of military compensation is backfiring — instead highlighting the perils of scaling back entitlement programs. The Senate on Wednesday handily approved, 95-3, a House-passed bill that the House Budget Committee chairman says “undermines” a tenet of the bipartisan budget deal he struck in December with his Democratic counterpart in the Senate, Patty Murray of Washington state. The Wisconsin Republican’s gambit was viewed as an attempt to get the ball rolling on military compensation reform — something top commanders say is badly needed — and to show that entitlement cuts are possible,

Harry Reid, D-Nev., has fast-tracked a bill drafted by Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., setting a procedural vote for Monday that paves the way for a vote by mid-week. The legislation, S 1963, would repeal the portion of the Bipartisan Budget Act that will reduce annual COLA increases by 1 percentage point for “working age” retirees, starting in late 2015.

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions.
