This is an open letter of remorse to the five year old who witnessed the killing of her mother, Monica Spears, and her father, Thomas Henry Berry, as the family waited on a highway for a tow-truck. Dear child, it is impossible to express to you why this atrocity happened, why your mother is gone, why your father is gone, and why you lay wounded in a hospital today. But let me try to write some words, inadequate as they may be, to be read by you when you grow up, which may put the obscene horror you witnessed in context. Those

Click on the original article and look at the other stories El Universal is running as front page news. At the left on your screen.

Together the stories give a disturbing, yet probably accurate, picture of a disintegrating nation.

Crime, oil production difficulties, out- migration, international banking problems, airlines halting service, etc.

Is Argentina trying out the
5-point economy wrecking plan?
CNN World, by Staff    Original Article

We were struck by a strange proposal this week. A top Argentine leader says his country should move the national capital from Buenos Aires in the east, facing the Atlantic, to a new city up in the north, closer to the Pacific. This would be an immense change – akin to Brazil moving the capital to Brasilia. It would be a shame to see Buenos Aires abandoned. But the idea that Argentina needs some shaking up is exactly right. A few weeks ago, we ran a report titled “How To Ruin Your Economy.” In five easy steps, it showed how a

NEW YORK – Around 5,000 undocumented students graduate annually from New York public schools but many do not go to college because they haven’t the money to enroll, even though the state legislature passed a bill providing them with access to state financial aid. A group of “dreamers,” as they are known, called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday to include $17 million in funding for the New York Dream Act in the next budget. “Take the bandages off your eyes so you can see us, we want to move ahead,” the Mexican Irma Karina Cruz Velez, a senior at Staten Island

Richard Blanco, an opposition legislator and deputy president of opposition Alianza Bravo Pueblo party, stressed that the number of violent deaths in Venezuela has skyrocketed by 483% since Chavezism took office in 1998. He claimed that high crime rates have been recorded even though Chavezism has implemented 22 different security plans and changed the minister of the interior and justice 12 times. The politician explained that some 4,000-5,000 people died annually in the country as a result of violence at the time Chavezism took office. He underlined that "today, the number of homicides in the country stands at some 25,000 annually. This

Recent attacks on Uber cars in Paris provide more anecdotal evidence that the French hate foreign competition and especially U.S. tech companies. Striking Paris taxi drivers attacked and vandalized at least a dozen cars booked through Uber, Bloomberg Businessweek and Rude Baguette reported Monday. Cab drivers are protesting increased competition from private car services. In a statement, San Francisco-based Uber strongly condemned the violence against its partner drivers and their cars. The attacks included broken windows, slashed tires, eggings and assaulted drivers. Uber makes a mobile app that connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire and ridesharing services.

Observers wondering who would assume the mantle of Hugo Chavez as Latin America’s fiery, anti-American strong man did not have to wait long. That man is Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa. Correa won a second term last February and promised to continue his “citizens’ revolution.” However, his record looks different beyond the rhetoric. More than half of Ecuador’s 15 million people still live in poverty. Crime rates remain high. And journalists, members of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and indigenous inhabitants are routinely fined and arrested. As the world awaits the birth of true democracy and freedom in Ecuador, the Washington Free Beacon compiled the five

For the first time, half of the members of the US Congress are millionaires, according to a wealth analysis. At least 268 of the 534 politicians in the Senate and House of Representatives had a net worth of 1m dollars or more in 2012. Democrats were slightly wealthier than Republicans, found the data from the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) at OpenSecrets.org. It comes as politicians debate national jobless benefits and the minimum wage. The median net worth for Washington politicians came in at one million dollars according to data. Democrats registered a median wealth of 1.04m while Republicans had 1m.

What´s infuriating is how this kind of politics is becoming the norm. It was the sort of thing that infuriates voters: With little warning last Sept. 9, two lanes of the George Washington Bridge were shut down for four days for a supposed "traffic study" — forcing commuters on the world´s busiest bridge road to wait in traffic for up to four hours. Black dogs don´t get as adopted as easily as others animals of other colors. The reason is largely because of some common misconceptions about them. Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to NBC News. Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes. Black dogs are are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions. Many owners of black dogs say they are sweet, lovable, but also unwanted. The chances of being adopted are poor if you´re a black dog.

Only days after we learned the Obama administration had appointed an Obama donor to head investigations into the IRS targeting of conservative organizations, we now have a leak from law enforcement saying the FBI doesn’t expect to file criminal charges. That’s the gist of a late-breaking story Monday evening in The Wall Street Journal. The story notes that though the investigation may go on another few months, unless other evidence is unearthed, the FBI conclusion will be that the IRS was a “mismanaged bureaucracy” enforcing rules “ it didn’t understand.” Without the evidence, we’re not in a position to say. But criminal

The problems with a politicized IRS may be far more serious than we have yet suspected. Sarah Palin´s brother Chuck Heath, Jr. posted the following on his Facebook account January 11th: My father, who worked multiple jobs and faithfully and honestly paid his taxes for fifty years, had never heard a word from the IRS. In 2008, his daughter was tapped to run for vice president of the United States. Since that time, he has been, in his words "horribly harassed" six times by the agency. They´ve tried to dig up something on him but he´s always operated above board. Government and

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wants to ban the term "RINO" -- "Republican in Name Only" -- in the Republican Party. The former governor complained in a letter to supporters that during a recent social media outreach, he was disturbed that too many Republicans were attacking each other and calling them names. "Many of you used a term that I’d like to see outlawed from the vernacular of the party: RINO," he said, calling it a "pejorative term" that questioned one´s purity. Huckabee pointed out that he got a tweet from someone who complained that he was a RINO, which upset him. "With all

Last month, the Paul Ryan-Patty Murray discretionary spending bill was unveiled. Sort of unveiled, anyway: it didn’t actually exist, but was summarized in a series of bullet points. Now the bill has taken tangible form. Here it is, all 2,860 pages, including explanatory statements: The House is expected to vote on the omnibus spending bill tomorrow, less than 48 hours after copies became available. No one will have read the law; this is government by press release.
