State Obamacare web exam

The glitch-plagued Obamacare website that has failed thousands of people trying to sign up for health insurance is getting an emergency review from just one private consultant — news that surprised experts who yesterday said the system needs a deeper probe. The Bedford-based nonprofit government contractor MITRE Corp. began the review of the $69 million website on Jan. 6 and is expected to submit a report by Friday — a time span of less than two weeks. “Given the short time period for the report you would want a whole team of people looking at different angles, from the application

MITRE is a very old and highly credible organization. But having only one person review the MA OCare site is very strange.

A visibly nervous Jimmy Fallon made it through his first “Tonight Show” with a little help from his friends. And a lotta help from his city. Fallon wasn’t bad. He just wasn’t as good as he’s going to get. He also did nothing to suggest NBC made the wrong call in giving him the desk owned for the last half-century by Johnny Carson and Jay Leno. Monday’s opening night also proved Fallon may never make a better decision than his first one: bringing the show back from L.A. to New York. With no disrespect to Will Smith and U2, the

A sophomore at the University of South Carolina was shocked recently to find a school textbook presenting as fact the claims that Ronald Reagan was a sexist and that conservatives think people are incapable of charity and those on welfare are "lazy." The book also claims that rich people find that having poor people around is "useful" because it allows them to have a class of people to "look down on." The textbook, written by Karen K. Krist-Ashman and used in a course titled "Introduction to Social Work Profession and Social Welfare," was first reported by Campus Reform on February

White House report says $763

President Obama´s $763 billion stimulus was basically free, according to a White House report that said the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was so successful that it paid for itself. "The Recovery Act had at most a minimal impact on the long-run debt — and the additional growth it produced likely further reduced or eliminated its cost," the White House Council of Economic Advisers reported Monday, the fifth anniversary of the stimulus (original emphasis). "Traditional budget scoring indicates that, because the Recovery Act was temporary, its impact on the long-run fiscal situation was minimal, adding less than 0.1 percent of

´Income inequality" has emerged as the issue du jour in national politics, threatening to displace the unpopular health-care law and the slow-growing economy this election year. Speeches and columns now routinely attack the banks or "the undeserving rich" and call on Washington to do something to redistribute income from the "super rich" to the poor and middle class. Democrats from President Obama to the new mayor of New York City are leading the charge on behalf of the "99%." This crusade is based on three questionable claims. One is that the wealthy are mostly Wall Street bankers benefitting from rising

The New York Daily News reports the distressing finding that of fears that the nation is facing an imminent shortage of clowns: Membership at the World Clown Association, the country’s largest trade group for clowns, has dropped from about 3,500 to 2,500 since 2004. Let’s see: that time period would correspond with the Democrats electing more of their clowns to Congress, electing the Obama Administration. Not to worry: the solution to the World Clown Association’s woes is obvious, and one place they might start to find a first-rate clown is the State Department. GENEVA — Locking the pilot out of the cockpit, an Ethiopian Airlines co-pilot hijacked a plane bound for Italy on Monday and diverted it to Geneva, where he asked for asylum, officials said. One passenger said the hijacker threatened to crash the plane if the pilot didn’t stop pounding on the locked door. Another said passengers were terrified “for hours” as the plane careened across the sky. The Boeing 767-300 took off from the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on an overnight flight to Milan and Rome, but an Ethiopian official said it sent a distress message over Sudan that

Las Vegas is vying to host the 2016 Republican National Convention and could be the frontrunner if the party´s social conservatives can look beyond the gambling mecca´s “Sin City” reputation. A large number of hotel rooms and meeting facilities located near convention hall, restaurants run by America’s top chefs and no hurricanes are a few of the reasons why the city appeals to GOP convention organizers. But gambling, risqué entertainment, and adults-only hotel pool parties are also a staple of Vegas hospitality. And despite the city´s hard sell, it´s unclear if the GOP´s culturally conservative base is willing to hold

Our southwest border with Mexico is completely unlike any other part of the United States. It is also a place that needs to be personally experienced in order to fully understand the complexities and nuances of life next to another country. But Mexico is not just any country; it is our third largest trading partner, and our two nations share a cultural bond that goes back over a hundred years. This cross-border relationship hasn’t always been pretty, and at some points in history, it has been downright ugly. However, US and Mexican citizens have always found a way to exchange

America’s Founding Fathers fiercely held to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—values which Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) claimed align seamlessly with Obamacare. Pelosi explained why the law is “very sound policy” during a press conference Friday: To go to back to our founders once again, they sacrificed it all for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This law, the affordable care act, is about a healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness. That is solid policy, and the mandate is central to that.
