The BBC: still as pro-EU as

Telegraph [UK], by Norman Tebbit

My old friend Michael, now Lord, Dobbs had a good day last Friday successfully piloting the European Referendum Bill through its first stage in the House of Lords. That was after a most extraordinary interview on the BBC Today Programme with Mr Evan Davis in which he was constantly heckled and interrupted to prevent him making his case or completing an answer to Mr Davis´s questions. That was followed by a most pathetically obsequious interview with Lord Mandelson who it seems was not willing to be interveiwed together with Lord Dobbs and spoke from a radio car. Lord Mandelson was

Taliban suicide bombers’ siege of
western guesthouse ends after three
U.S. hostages are freed by Afghan

More than a dozen foreign nationals, including several children, had to be evacuated from a guesthouse used by a U.S.-based aid group in Kabul, after armed Taliban insurgents stormed the building and took at least four people hostage. The hostages, which were said to have included three U.S. citizens, were trapped inside for at least an hour before Afghan security officials ended the siege in the upmarket residential area of the capital. At least one Afghan child and five Taliban insurgents died during the operation, a military official said after the battle was over, adding that all hostages are now safe.

Can Obama Saudi visit

Relations between Washington and its long-standing ally Saudi Arabia have sharply declined in recent months over US policy in the Middle East--now even a visit to Riyadh by President Obama might do little to narrow the differences, reports the BBC´s Kim Ghattas in Washington. US officials briefing reporters ahead of the trip have said little of substance about what they expect, other than to say it is very important. Ben Rhodes, the president´s deputy national security adviser, did acknowledge that there were disagreements between the two countries. One of them has already put a small damper on the trip. On

Nigel Farage has accused the European Union of having "blood on its hands" over the Ukraine. Does that sound over the top? [Snip] Well, that was the EU´s plan and it has been working on it for some time. The Ukraine was to form the jewel in the crown of the EU´s Eastern Partnership programme, which would see Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus brought closer to the bosom of the EU. This was what David Cameron was endorsing last year when, at the time of Croatia´s accession to the EU, he described his dream of seeing a European

King Abdullah is paramount leader of the House of Saud and master of a fifth of the world’s oil reserves, but he does a good impression of being a simple man. When he was Crown Prince, his tent was open to just about any male Saudi, so long as they were not too flamboyantly deferential. An obsequious petitioner would receive a prod from Abdullah’s bamboo camel cane. “You’re a man,” he would mutter. “What are you doing grovelling on the floor?” The Saudi king is unlikely to have this problem today when he receives President Barack Obama in Riyadh. U.S. President Barack Obama has caused confusion after claiming yesterday that Kosovo held a UN-assisted referendum for self-determination--misleading people over the true origins of the country. The U.S. President used the example to hit out against Russia´s annexation of Crimea, but experts have noted that no such referendum took place, and implied that Obama´s "incredible mistake" should elicit a retraction or correction from the White House. [Snip] One source said the faux-pas was "the very last thing Kosovo and Serbia need" as the two seek to strengthen relations. Obama said in his speech yesterday: "...Kosovo only left Serbia after a

Breitbart London has learned that President Obama has undermined Georgia’s NATO membership application, in the second foreign policy gaffe of his European trip this week. Speaking at the press conference after the EU-US summit yesterday the US President wrongly suggested that Georgia “is not currently on a path to NATO membership”. In fact the country has been on the path to membership since 2008.[Snip] The mistake comes after Breitbart London revealed that Obama had wrongly claimed “Kosovo only left Serbia after a referendum was organised not outside the boundaries of international law, but in careful cooperation with the United States

New approach to blasting Obamacare: Congressional

Alabama congressional hopeful Will Brooke blows holes into a copy of the Affordable Care Act with three different guns in a new campaign ad, saying he wants to ´see how much damage we can do to this copy of Obamacare.´ Before resorting to a wood chipper decorated with a campaign sticker, the Republican candidate fires at the 1,000-page health insurance law with a .40 caliber Glock pistol, a .270 caliber Cooper rifle and an AR-15. The Daily Caller was first to report on the controversial campaign video, but Brooke isn´t the first to put guns in a political campaign ad.

Three very opinionated and unimpressed New York-based grandmas (who happen to be sisters) have voiced their strong disapproval of Beyonce and Kanye West´s duet, Drunk in Love. Twins Mary and Terese, both 81, and Josie, 73, all hairdressers who were raised in The Bronx and call themselves the Golden Sisters, have enjoyed rapid Internet fame for their sassy observations on the worldwide number one hit song. The amusing video, uploaded earlier this month to YouTube, has already garnered over 130,000 views. A former White House assistant press secretary has lashed out at the White House taking specific aim on the office of the First Lady. Reid Cherlin has written an article for The New Republic criticizing the overly structured way that Michelle Obama´s team handles her schedule and even the way the First Lady herself deals with her staff. He said that in addition to the internal politics that comes with a group of eager staffers trying to curry favor with Mrs Obama, a good deal of the drama comes as a result of ´the exacting but often ambivalent leadership style of the

So it is no surprise that President Barack Obama has travelled to the Vatican in Rome possibly to get some tips from the popular Pope Francis who now even has own weekly glossy magazine dedicated to him. As he sat down with the Pontiff at the Vatican this morning, Obama called himself a ´great admirer´ of the pope. Their historic first meeting comes as Obama´s administration and the church

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. The President and the Pontiff will, as the White House said in a statement, focus on "shared commitment

All 17 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have called on Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to end the “partisan” investigation into the Benghazi attack “and begin focusing instead on conducting responsible oversight to implement constructive reforms.” The Dems, led by ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), charged that the probe “has been characterized by wild and unsubstantiated political accusations that turn out to be completely inaccurate.” They proceeded to outline those instances in the five-page letter. “Continuing this reckless pattern of launching wholly unfounded accusations on national television — and racking up more and more Pinocchios in the process —

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on

They aim to broaden prosperity´s reach through markets and merit, not government and corporate cronyism.
