DOE Plugs Energy Rating For Homes

The Energy Department on Tuesday is rolling out new, improved software to help Americans measure the energy efficiency of their homes. DOE says its energy-scoring software -- called the Home Energy Scoring Tool -- is like a vehicle´s mile-per-gallon rating because it allows homeowners to compare the energy performance of their homes to other homes nationwide. It also provides homeowners with suggestions for improving their homes´ efficiency. The software is part of the government´s effort to reduce the nation´s energy consumption; but it´s also billed as a way to keep home-retrofitting going, at a time when stimulus funds for weather-proofing

Comments:
The meters are already installed in most homes. A retired couple who are home all day, and runs heat or air will score worse than a working family in a bigger home because they´re not home for 10 hours a day.

I´m all for increasing the energy efficiency of my residence as long as the government will pay for all the improvements. Otherwise, I will not be able to afford being green.

This is the way for Obama to claim action on pollution control. With the stroke of a pen he can claim that he reduced green house gasses and all the standard air pollutants. In a couple of years, new houses will be a bit more energy efficient. Compare that to the performance of CA trying to ratchet down emissions by threatening to close plants. In contrast, TX has made huge improvements in controlling emissions by working with plants to allow improved processes while reducing to overall emissions. TX has only a couple of counties that still have occasional non-conformances.

It will not take alot to connect your thermostat to the government so they can monitor and control your heating and cooling in real time.....of course then comes rationing......and then communal living. After all, a group of people living in one single room is far more effective than all of us living on our own.

Hate to tell you this but there are UK real estate sales sites on the net where. . . well, better I give you a link than try to explain it:

http://www.energy-performance-certificates.org/epc

Yes, folks, your very own Energy Performance Certificate will permit you to sell your home. This is manna from regulation heaven to a progressive.

Ooo, look at this neat little bit of regulation in the UK--we can regulate who can and can´t sell a home and the homeowner will have to use it in part to estimate the selling price. Power, honey--I just love it!

You can wait four months or more for cataract surgery or a hip replacement but you have to have proof you´ve "commissioned" (and paid for) an Energy Performance Certificate within four weeks of your house going on the market.

Coming to a house very near you soon.

We do not need the DOE, we do not need the CAFE standards, and we definitely do not need this new and ridiculous federal program. Our federal government is completely out of control.

We need to fix it, or eliminate it.

New Army regulations meant to help standardize and professionalize soldiers’ appearance are now coming under criticism by some black military women, who say changes in the hair requirement are racially biased. The Army earlier this week issued new appearance standards, which included bans on most twists, dreadlocks and large cornrows, all styles used predominantly by African-American women with natural hairstyles. More than 11,000 people have signed a White House petition asking President Barack Obama, the commander in chief, to have the military review the regulations to allow for “neat and maintained natural hairstyles.”

Albuquerque’s mayor said that a more than 10-hour protest over recent police shootings turned from peaceful into “mayhem,” as officers in riot gear clashed with hundreds of protesters who blocked traffic, tried to get on freeways and shouted anti-police slogans. Mayor Richard Berry said Sunday that one officer was injured, rocks were thrown and at one point protesters trapped police in a vehicle and tried to break the windows, the Albuquerque Journal reported. An Associated Press reporter saw gas canisters being thrown outside police headquarters and Albuquerque police and Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies charging at the protesters late Sunday, which

A federal agent who shows up unannounced at a building along a Texas highway might be looking for any number of things: illicit drugs or immigration violations, say, or illegal firearms.Or fluorescent lights. Which was what the agent had in mind who walked into the Perfect Cuts salon in San Antonio last July. The lights were violating communications regulations. The agent had used signal-tracking equipment to home in on the offenders and told the owner, Ronald Bethany, that his lights emitted radio signals that interfered with an AT&T cellphone tower.

Wellinghoff, who was in office during the incident, said he reached his conclusion after consulting with Defense Department experts about the attack that involved snipping AT&T fiber-optic lines to knock out phone and 911 service, and firing shots into a PG&E substation, causing outages.

Each of the eight inmates whose sentences are being shortened has served at least 15 years, many after receiving mandatory minimum sentences. Obama signed a law in 2010 that brought increased parity to sentences handed out for crack-cocaine compared to powdered cocaine.

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. As the midterm elections approach and the administration’s incompetence, along with the distaste for the president’s signature ObamaCare legislation, drive the party’s chances down further, the make-believe coalition of opposites may well crumble if the opposition doesn’t blow it.
