They said health rationing would never come, that if you liked your plan and doctor, you could keep it. They lied, and now that that’s over let’s move on. Since it’s the government’s doctor not yours any more, Maryland has announced a bold deal with state and federal officials not to treat people unnecessarily. (Snip) Of course much of the problem of overtreatment is one of government’s own making. Think tort law. One of the major reasons why American treatments cost so much is defensive medicine. Defensive medicine, also called defensive medical decision making, refers to the practice of recommending

Comments:
The most significant cause of soaring medical costs has been third party payments, whether by insurance companies or government agencies. When third parties start paying first dollar for ordinary checkups and health maintenance, you can be certain that hyperinflation will be the result, same as for education. Dark blue Maryland, its numerous economically illiterate Democrats panting for socialized medicine, is speeding up for the baton pass from Obama, never mind that the entire misbegotten, ramshackle program threatens to self-destruct as neglected patients experience predictable morbidity and mortality.

The PP&ACA (aka Obamacare), the utterly predictable mutant outgrowth of a political party that has become de facto socialist, is the worst unforced legislative error in the history of the nation, and it will cause multitudes of patients to suffer and die needlessly, their doctors´ hands entangled by bureaucratic red tape and diktats. Outside Islamist nuclear destruction of entire American cities--no longer inconceivable in the age of Obama--what could be worse than burying your loved ones while knowing that effective treatment was avilable last year (but not this year)? The rage will be murderous. And totally justified. No amount of editorial dissimulation by the New York Times or flat out lying by the DNC will save the culprits from the avalanche of vengeance that will bury them forever.

I wish that I was as sure as #1 about the democrats being blamed for this atrocity. If they win the presidency in 2016 history will be rewritten again and by 2024 a new generation will be brainwashed. There are already many blaming the republican house for lack of support although not a single republican voted for the act.

Concerning the valid point made by #3, Obamacare was passed with precisely zero Republican support in Congress. Neither did the Republicans contribute so much as a semicolon to the 2,000+ page PP&ACA. There will be unceasing, categorically dishonest, attempts by Democrats and their robotically obedient urine spray tree sniffers in the press to somehow deflect blame for the destruction of the American medical profession onto Republicans.

If those on the Left are able to succeed in pinning this mushrooming healthcare debacle even partially onto the Republicans, the by-now-toothless Republican establishment need to disappear permanently from the political stage tails tucked tightly between their legs, as they will have proven themselves powerless against an organized campaign of lies, even though they are, for a change, armed with the truth. If they don´t have enough moxie to take on and defeat a gaggle of shameless professional liars, what good are they?

The purpose of political contributions is to win an existential political war like this one before the nation is irretrievably damaged. Again I call for supporters of Tea Party objectives (whether or not they´re actual Tea Party members; I´m not) to stage a hostile takeover of the GOP and of soggy, defunct, formerly useful institutions like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The chief problem to preventing them lay in a policy which maintained that active flood control was bad. Nature treats humans as part of the natural world but environmentalists treat nature as part of the political world. Many a misunderstanding arises therefrom. Well, perhaps not really completely different, but this seems to be the time of year when there is a dearth of beauty pageants to cover, which is why the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition comes out around now. (Snip) This year’s SI swimsuit cover girl is . . . Barbie! Hooray! I say “Hooray!” because this turned out to be perfect bait for the angry, humorless cultural Left, which has always hated Barbie. (Who needs Pavlov when you’ve got Leftists?) What really galls the Left is that both SI and Barbie’s maker, Mattel, are “unapologetic” about their partnership, as the New

Michael Ledeen notices something curious. Regimes which have long shrugged off the best efforts to overthrow them are reeling on their foundations. What’s going on? (Snip) Incompetence has a quality all of its own. Even when unnoticed it works to bring down down error, tirelessly, relentlessly and completely, like a colony of termites gnawing on some seemingly invincible pillar of wood. In late 2013 I suggested that president Obama had “single-handedly trashed the Arab world”, commenting on how many of his policies had the exact opposite effect of his stated intentions. We live in ridiculously convenient times. Granted, this answer will be wrong because it comes from the Internet, which is infested with teenagers, lunatics and Anthony Weiner. But it´s convenient. Today everything is convenient. For the second time this month, a car heading the wrong way on Interstate 275 in Hillsborough County was involved in a fatal crash. Early this morning, a wrong-way driver from Riverview was killed when he struck a box truck just north of Bearss Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Two people in the truck received minor injuries. At 2:35 a.m., Chase Kaleb Leveille, 25, was driving a 1993 Honda Civic north in the southbound center lane of I-275, when he crashed head-on into an unloaded rental truck going south, troopers said. Leveille died at the scene, the patrol said.

CARACAS, Venezuela — Leopoldo López, the defiant Venezuelan opposition leader taken into custody Tuesday in front of thousands of anti-government protesters, spent last night in a prison on a military base. But even there, the government couldn’t shut him up. In a prerecorded video message released hours after his arrest, López urged Venezuelans to continue a campaign of “resistance” to force the resignation or recall of President Nicolás Maduro, a goal López calls “the Exit.” Seated on a sofa beside his wife and appealing directly to Venezuelan youth, López told viewers that what the country needed more than ever was

This summer will mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, and we should reflect on the “lessons” we have been taught so often on how to avoid another such devastating conflict. Chief among them seems to be the canard that the Versailles Treaty of 1919 that officially ended the war caused a far worse one just 20 years later — usually in the sense of an unnecessary harshness accorded a defeated Imperial Germany. But how true is that common argument of what John Maynard Keynes called a “Carthaginian peace”? Carthage, remember, was truly emasculated after the

It’s often hard to determine whether a series of bad policies results from stupidity or malicious intent. Occam’s razor suggests that the former is the more likely explanation, as conspiracies assume a high degree of intelligence, complex organization, and secrecy among a large number of people, qualities that usually are much less frequent than the simple stupidity, disorganization, and inability to keep a secret more typical of our species. Yet surveying the nearly 6 years of Obama’s disastrous foreign policy blunders, I’m starting to lean towards Goldfinger’s Chicago mob-wisdom: “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times, it’s enemy action.”

Family members of Coots, 42, refused medical treatment for him. He was pronounced dead about two hours after the rattler sank its fangs into his right hand. His son said the poison overwhelmed his father within minutes of the bite. "It was the quickest snakebite I ever seen in my life," Coots´ son, Cody, said Sunday. The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down.
