State leaders closely watch
migrating millionaires

San Francisco Chronicle, by Kathleen Pender

Original Article

When golfer Phil Mickelson hinted last January that he might leave California because of a big jump in his federal and state tax rates, it was met with such venom that he later apologized, saying it was insensitive to state his opinion publicly when people are living paycheck to paycheck. Mickelson still lives in California, but other wealthy people say they have moved out mainly or partly because of skyrocketing tax rates. (Snip) In 2011, the top 1 percent of tax returns accounted for 41 percent of the state´s personal income tax revenues, and that was before Proposition 30 raised rates

Comments:
The trick for big-budget leftists is to revile and "soak the rich" only just shy of the point where they want to walk away. When that fails, watch for outright confiscation.

It looks like I moved out of California just in time. I can´t afford to pay for California´s lavish public employee pensions during my own retirement, sorry. So go ahead lefties, vilify me too for being able to count.

A beautiful state that is falling into disrepair as I write. Pathetic, and sad.

If state politicians are watching this, that means the high tax states are trying to figure a way to tax those that move AFTER they move......got a 401k/403b?.....they´re thinking about it.

Why´d he apologize? He told the truth, a no no in lib world. Instead of apologizing because of intimidation, he should have urged others to do likewise. And he should have followed up by telling those who DO move, NOT to move and then vote for the same kind of leftists who caused the mess from which they are fleeing. It makes me sick that people feel they have to apologize for wanting to keep what they RIGHTFULLY earned, just to have it wasted on thieves and illegals. God, how I despise the left.

Dan Walters, the only sane writer in the otherwise liberal Sacramento Bee, quoted a recent LA study that had a few amazing factoids . . . La has the highest poverty rate of any major US city, there are only four remaining Fortune 500 company headquarters left in LA, second worst school district in California (and that is saying a lot), huge unfunded pension liabilities . . the union/income redistribution politicians in the legislature (and the Gov.)and the lapdog press will yawn and continue their ways until LA becomes "Detroit south", actually the whole state could become get that title.

Interstate mobility is one of the feedback mechanisms that help correct cost of living and job opportunity disparities among the states. Migration of millionaires, businesses, unemployed, and retirees helps to even out the system and rein in excess. This is a good thing. The blue states need to deal with it in a positive rather than negative way.

(BTW: I have no regrets over my own migration from CA to TN.)

U.S. homebuilder confidence

U.S. homebuilders’ confidence in the housing market has declined sharply as the severe weather battering much of the nation keeps many would-be buyers at home. Storms and cold weather dampened builders’ outlook for sales ahead of the spring home-selling season and could further slow the pace of home construction. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index slid to 46. That’s down from January’s reading of 56 and is the lowest level since May. Readings below 50 indicate that more builders view sales conditions as poor rather than good. Builders’ view of current sales conditions for

As this old photograph from Somerset shows, it used to be water under the bridge. But that was in the 1960s, when the river was regularly dredged. Now, as the residents of Burrowbridge are all too aware, the width of this stretch of the River Parrett has practically halved. As a result it regularly bursts its banks, flowing over and around the bridge instead. In startling contrast to today´s scenario, the picture, taken five decades ago, shows a wide expanse of water passing through Burrowbridge with plenty of room for water levels to rise. There´s a debate going on about Hillary Clinton´s past. If she runs for president in 2016, should Republicans reach back to the scandals of her years as First Lady? Or should they focus on more recent times, especially her tenure as Secretary of State, to build a case against her? The GOP doesn´t have to choose. Of course Clinton´s recent experiences are relevant to a presidential run. But so are her actions in the 90s, the 80s and even the 70s. It´s not ancient history; it reveals something about who Clinton was and still is. And re-examining her past is entirely consistent with practices in recent campaigns. In the 2012 presidential race,
