Why Bridgegate made headlines
but Obama’s IRS scandal didn’t

New York Post, by John Podhoretz

Original Article

Posted By:Scottyboy, 1/11/2014 7:06:30 PM

Most government scandals involve the manipulation of the system in obscure ways by people no one has ever heard of. That is why George Washington Bridgegate is nearly a perfect scandal — because it is comprehensible and (as they say in Hollywood) “relatable” to everyone who has ever been in a car. This is the reason this one is not going to go away so easily, even if one accepts the contention that Gov. Chris Christie had nothing whatsoever to do with it.(snip)Journalists know the Obamans. Intimately. They know them from college, they know them from work, they know them

Comments:
The media hypocrisy and bias boggles the mind.

"It exists not because there is a conscious effort to soft-pedal bad news for politicians you like and to push hard on bad news for politicians you don’t."

I think there is a conscious effort, and there´s plenty of evidence for it. Everybody has heard Rush´s montages of the drive bys all saying the same thing. A dozen different people saying Rahm Emanuel has "sharp elbows" on the same day indicates collusion. Who uses "sharp elbows" in conversation, anyway? That had to come from a central source instructing them on what to say, and they all complied and said it. And it´s pretty clear the instructions aren´t coming from the Republican National Committee.

Nothing comprehensible about it.

What was the end game?

What was the purpose?

Was someone going to gloat?

Stupid doesn´t begin to cover the entire situation.

Relatable........the traffic on the bridge is stopped for one reason or another every single day.

Anyone who pays taxes is "relatable" to the IRS and its scandals. They aren´t manipulating the system in an obscure way. Their actions have been right out in the open, with an "in your face" attitude.

Ok, since logic isn´t the MSM´s strong point, allow me, a trained mathematician to provide the necessary comparison of the two cases: Bridgegate vs IRSgate.

Bridgegate:
- inconvenienced tens of thousands of people for 4 days
- made major headlines and non-stop coverage in both national and local outlets
- caused intense direct questioning of parties involved, investigations, and lawsuits

IRSgate:
- potentially affects millions of people and may have changed the course of a national election with massive fiscal consequences for the entire country
- except for conservative media, was largely ignored or treated as a minor news item in back pages
- resulted in no direct questioning of the President, and investigations are being thwarted with withheld documents or crony investigators

Which situation is the more serious one and more worthy of media frenzy? You decide. And conscious effort or coincidental? Surely you can´t be serious?

This article is absurd, and this type of thinking is dangerous to our nation. The media is owned and controlled by very powerful people who have a definite political agenda. They hire underlings who will do their will – who will propagate the view that furthers their aims. Anyone who is not effective in telling the exact story they want told is fired. Period.

The MSM has a pent up need to report scandal. Because the Obama Admin will punish them if they report on Obama scandals (Fast & Furious, Bengahzi, All golf/no work, IRS, etc etc etc. Punishment in the form of no access WH, nasty phone calls to network boss, shun by rest of media. The MSM went hog wild when even a "minor" state level opportunity presented itself, because they can report on it with impunity.

It´s all so deliciously obvious, a traffic jam is big news,
Benghazi, IRS, is not. The Communist Party Line dictates crucifying the guy who might be a middle of the road threat to Hitlary. The good news, the Hitlary commies think Chris is dangerous, so they Communist style, Marxist agitate against him in absurd ways !
The even better news is this anti Chris indoctrination proves how desperate and fearful the Hitlary commie support cabals actually is.

The main problem is when the msm, Hollywood and the Newspapers are all in this fraud together singing the same song day and night it is difficult for conservatives to find good leaders; as they and their ideas are torn to bits by whatever it takes. It is hard for the voters to understand or even be aware of but one view point...the msm/socialist point of view. Even conservatives can sway and question their leaders and philosophy, because of the continued onslaught against conservatism/traditional America by the msm. Fox News can´t do it alone.

It´s not tribalism; it´s the ideology of the liberal tribe. Enter any liberal bubble--academe, e.g. You see nastiness, rent-seeking, backbiting, etc. You also see ´non-judgmentalism´ and the notion that a more diverse committee mix will solve all of these problems. There is always the ´ideal´ goal lingering on the horizon. We´ll get past this. We´ll get it right this time. No Stalins, no Pol Pots, no Mao´s. Our goal makes us pure . . . whereas those greedy Republicans . . . they are only guided by self-interest, etc. etc. etc. "Our people" are purer than your people, because of our beliefs (which are always right; hence if you disagree we´ll punish you).

If you live in California try closing any freeway for four days. You would be lynched faster than you could eat a taco, the Governor or Mayor and all government buildings would be spray painted with graffiti and riots would ensue.

Look at what happened when one cop shot and killed another cop last year. The police started shooting everyone in sight or whomever got in the way. They blocked highways, burned down cabins and put California under siege. One cop was heard to say when the culprit was trapped ´Burn the cabin down and kill the $#*&^%$#@.

Sooo... don´t pick on Christie, he only blocked the worlds busiest bridge for four days to get even with another politician who wouldn´t support him. Then he said, with tears in his eyes, ´I don know nuttin´.

It seems now that just about every agency in Jersey knew about the payback except the guy who is now deaf and dumb. You can blame every media outlet in the world, but Christie and his staff created the mess and gave an opposition media a chance to rave against their utter stupidity.

The mission statement for the vast majority of the media is "to promote, serve and protect the Democrat Party and those associated with it".

Podhoretz is likely right to imply that these so-called "journalists" are lifetime Democrats. It is also most likely that it is wrong to assume they live their lives according to "liberal" social mores or or any other commonly designated social philosophy. They are foot soldiers in the Democrat Party and they are willing to pursue a lot of dirty tricks. The fact that they are shallow people has no significance for them. They have their cause and their self-righteousness to get them through the day. That is all they need. Thinking and objectivity have no place in their pathetic lives.

The politicians they serve are power-mad statists who speak in embarrassing child-like ways about the good they will bring their subjects. They act as if they are in a very poorly written play speaking their hackneyed lines. Humanity is their great enemy.

It would be best for people to divest themselves of the media and get on with their lives. However, for comic relief, one could listen to or read what the media fools expound. After all, it is entertainment that they are providing. Just do not take them seriously. This is one way to discredit them.

My LoFo relatives are tut-tutting about this but when I mention IRS they just roll their eyes and mumble about "made-up Republican scandals". The fact is that the IRS itself surfaced this, but even after Obama tacitly admitted it happened, and plenty of evidence emerged that the White House was involved, the party line is now that it is a fabrication and the media has gone along with that.

This is willful malpractice. I hope that as a result of the disaster that is and will be Obama, not only is the Democratic Party crushed, but the media is financially ruined. They are already ruined in every other sense. My contempt for these criminals knows no bounds and I am not cutting them any slack like this author. I am already angry and now I want vengeance.

The media should have waited until January of 2016 to drop this absurd " October surprise " .
Obama routinely snarls traffic in NYC , DC and other places all across the US for " date nights " and fundraisers.
Flights are grounded at airports when AF1 is landing or taking off.
Many more Americans have been delayed and inconvenienced by the Obama´s self indulgent travel
than were delayed
by the 96 hour lane closures.
On " date night " in May 2009 , Barry used
the resources of the US Air Force
to take Michelle to New York for dinner and a play.
"President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama landed in New York Saturday afternoon,
and after taking a helicopter from JFK into Manhattan, drove up the West Side Highway,
where the northbound lanes were shut down by police for their visit,.."
" After the play let out at about 11:30 p.m., the presidential motorcade went down Sixth Avenue, shut down by the NYPD, .."
The traffic and airport shut down scenario
is repeated over and over again ,
nationwide, year after year,
as the Obamas indulge themselves at our expense.
It makes 96 hours pale in comparison.

#23: I was having lunch with a friend of mine who´s a former Chief of Police when that incident happened.

That cabin was made entirely of wood. Every cop knows you don´t use smoke grenades in a wooden structure because in order to generate the smoke, a flame about two feet long shoots out the bottom of the can and WILL start a fire.

As soon as that cop-killer saw the first smoke grenade come through the window, he knew what was coming next. That´s why he shot himself.

Not that I have any real pity for him. Once I found out about this I chuckled a little bit thinking about what must have gone through his mind when that first grenade went through the window. Something like: "Uh oh."

As for the article, I agree with everyone else. It´s merely SOP for our collective enemy.

On Fox News Sunday, political analyst Brit Hume said that Eric Holder’s claim that his treatment at the hands of Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) at a House hearing this week was unprecedented toward an Attorney General, made him a “crybaby,” and that he and President Barack Obama had in fact benefited “enormously” from being the first African Americans in their respective positions. “This strikes me as kinda crybaby stuff from Holder,” Hume said. “My sense about this is both Eric Holder and Barack Obama have benefited politically enormously from the fact that they are African American and the first to

Let me obliterate a bit of confusion here: the Obama administration attempted to go to war with a rancher in Nevada. Let me amplify a little bit of truth: They tucked tail and have returned home. And let me add a bit of clarity: they had no choice! As the nation began to become familiar with the plight of the family of Cliven Bundy, many of us harkened back to another standoff in which the Federal government attempted to bully it´s outcome: Waco, Texas and the Branch Davidian massacre. It is telling that in the Nevada case the feds pulled out so

They’re both qualified, respectful of each other (shocker!), and represent the vast majority of middle America. So what’s not to like about another Clinton/Bush race for 2016? When you mention the prospect of Clinton vs. Bush 2016 a funny thing happens. First, there is the reflexive response: "Oh no, not again. We don´t need more dynastic politics in this country." But upon further reflection, you realize Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton would be a great race and actually good for the country. Let´s review. QUALIFICATIONS—THEY’VE BOTH GOT THEM. Barack Obama won the presidency because in an election where the premium was on change, it mattered little

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. Many Republicans are re-evaluating their strong stances on conservative social issues as public

Say what you will about Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), but they know a train wreck when they see it. They also know when to separate themselves from the cranks and the losers on the right. Although both supported the shutdown and were heartily supported by tea party groups in their own Senate races, neither one has endorsed Matt Bevin in Kentucky, Milton Wolf in Kansas or Chris McDaniel in Mississippi. In fact, Cruz’s office confirms he hasn’t endorsed anyone in the primaries. He may weigh in after the primaries. Rand Paul has endorsed two very establishment

A brazen flash mob has been caught on camera storming a California store and making off with $20,000 worth of sunglasses. Surveillance footage shows eight women piling into a Sunglass Hut and crowding around display cases. Shielding workers from what they´re doing, they quickly stuff dozens of fashion specs into their bags. A store clerk pleads with them to stop, before running out of the shot to get help and dial 911. The thieves then all bolt outside and escape in a waiting SUV. The incident occurred at the Valencia Town Center mall, in Santa Clarita, at 3 p.m. on

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of

It’s hardly been a secret that in recent years the moderate center of the Democrat party has been driven away and what remains is a conglomeration of disparate blocs which, to date, the party has been able to treat as if there were no conflicting interests between them. As the midterm elections approach and the administration’s incompetence, along with the distaste for the president’s signature ObamaCare legislation, drive the party’s chances down further, the make-believe coalition of opposites may well crumble if the opposition doesn’t blow it. Democrats hope to retain control of the Senate and recapture the House by driving
