Did Al Franken really cast the
´60th vote´ for Obamacare?

Star Tribune (Mpls), by Kevin Diaz

Original Article

So who did cast the critical 60th vote for the Affordable Care Act, a?k?a “Obamacare”? Facing a new election year, the GOP has an answer ready to go: U.S. Sen. Al Franken, the Minnesota Democrat whose 2008 recount victory over Republican Norm Coleman helped alter the balance of power in national politics. (snip) But in a body of 100 senators, Franken is hardly the only contender for the distinction. Not to mention that in the end, the essential finishing touches of the health care law passed the Senate — thanks to some tricky legislative maneuvering — with a mere 56 votes,

The Minneapolis "Red Star" is launching a preemptive strike to defend their boy Al. It´s encouraging, actually, because if this leftwing newspaper is worried about his prospects, then the guy must be in serious trouble.

A "contender for the distinction"??

Doubling down on the myths and lies. A senator by way of theft and fraud lauded for his involvement with the fraudulently named ACA, redistribution by theft. Poetic corruption, a sight to behold.

Every Senator running for reelection should be asked two questions: Did you read the Obamacare bill before you voted for it? Why did you vote for it if you had no idea what was in it? They are like sheep. They vote on what they are told to vote on by Harry Reid with no consideration for the people back home who pay them to do what is right for them not for themselves. Shame on the Democrats, all of them!

EVERY dim senator cast the 60th vote, period.

Had there been one dim voting no, it would not have passed.

So, every dimocratic senator running this year should have that vote hung around his neck.

Of course the better question is why he was casting any senate vote as he stole the election.

Mickey Rooney, the pint-sized actor who was one of MGM’s giant box office attractions in the late ’30s and early ’40s, died on Sunday. He was 93. As adept at comedy as drama and an excellent singer and dancer, Rooney was regarded as the consummate entertainer. During a prolific career on stage and screen that spanned eight decades (“I’ve been working all my life, but it seems longer,” he once said), he was nominated for four Academy Awards and received two special Oscars, the Juvenile Award in 1939 (shared with Deanna Durbin) and one in 1983 for his body of work.

Last week, news broke that a congressional candidate in Gainesville had a secret pastime: impersonating vampires. And superheroes. Some people would call this nutty. In Florida, we just call it Tuesday. Seriously, that´s not even our highest-profile vampire story. Remember the "vampire killings" from Lake County? Some of our stories are heartbreakingly tragic. But so many are also mind-numbingly strange. In Florida, we do weird the way Kansas does wheat. Here, giant pet snakes escape. And breed. And then invade our national parks. We have fish that eat people, alligators that eat people and people who eat people.

One of the latest tools targeting the growing problem of texting while driving didn´t come out of Apple, Google or Microsoft. It was the brainchild of two Orlando-area entrepreneurs who recently launched a new mobile app called Txt Shield. The idea behind Txt Shield, which runs on Android phones, is to short-circuit any texting capability when people are cruising down the highway, according to brothers Philip and Geoffrey Stiles, co-founders and partners in Txt Shield LLC. Parents can install it on their teens´ phones; employers can put it on company-issued phones; and individuals can download it to help resist the urge to

The delegation has been lobbying in Washington during the St Patrick´s Day trip for reforms to benefit the 50,000 undocumented Irish there. A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.
