US Icebreaker to Rescue
2 Ships in Antarctica

ABC News, by Rod McGuirk

Original Article

Posted By:barbcrose, 1/4/2014 9:44:05 PM

A U.S. Coast Guard heavy icebreaker will leave Australia for Antarctica on Sunday to rescue more than 120 crew members aboard two icebreakers trapped in pack ice near the frozen continent´s eastern edge, officials said. The 122-meter (399-foot) cutter, the Polar Star, is responding to a Jan. 3 request from Australia, Russia and China to assist the Russian and Chinese ships because "there is sufficient concern that the vessels may not be able to free themselves from the ice," the Coast Guard said in a statement. The Russian research ship Akademik Shokalskiy has been trapped in ice-clogged Commonwealth Bay

As with almost every article on the Ship of Fools, the ABC & AP reporting team use the terms "research ship" and "scientists" without explaining what was to be researched by these PhDs. Perhaps they were seeking a site for another of Al Gore´s mansions, what with the disappearance of Antarctic ice and the balmy temperatures. Can´t think of why our news media have forgotten to describe the purpose of this "research" farce.

According to The Australian, ships pay their own costs, so the research budgets for China, Russia and Australia took a big hit. (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/policy/hit-for-ice-rescue-revealed/story-fn59nm2j-1226794662899 )The Australian ship still has equipment on board for researchers in the field that was in the process of being offloaded when the distress call was received. Start with Clarice´s article (http://www.americanthinker.com/2014/01/2014_lets_change_the_climate.html) and follow the link trail - looks like scientists the world over are affected by this stupidity. There´s interesting discussion over whether it was budget or hubris that put the "expedition" on a ship that wasn´t an ice breaker to begin with.

The butt-covering begins with Turney´s article in the Guardian basically saying "I meant to do that."

I saw 5 news shows on TV yesterday with items on this incident (3 national and 2 local) and not a single one mentioned why the original ship was out there or who was on it. The international and national media, with the exception of the UK press have totally cloaked such climate change embarrassments in complete secrecy. That is what we are up against.

I have only sympathy for the crews of the two ships that are caught in the ice. First the Russian captain told the greenies to get back to the ship, the ice was freezing and they didn´t. Then the Chinese icebreaker couldn´t move until the people were all rescued, during which time they got frozen in. Save your scorn for the "proving the warming" crowd, and pray for the crews that were unlucky enough to be stuck with them.

So how come our ice breakers can break ice better than everybody elses? Or might the ice breakers be loaded with a few cruise missiles that, once fired into the ice, creates a whole bunch of open water for the stuck ships to use for their escape?

A sharply divided Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to continue enforcing abortion restrictions that opponents say have led more than a third of the state´s clinics to stop providing abortions. The justices voted 5-4 to leave in effect a provision requiring doctors who perform abortions in clinics to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The court´s conservative majority refused the plea of Planned Parenthood and several Texas abortion clinics to overturn a preliminary federal appeals court ruling that allowed the provision to take effect. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote. CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett then weighed in this week in his National Journal

The Clintons had a busy night of celebrations after Chelsea announced she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are expecting a baby. Bill joined “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey at the Revlon Rainforest Fund Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall Thursday, joking of Spacey’s Machiavellian character, “When I was president people accused me of murder all the time, made a show of investigating. Spacey’s president for 15 minutes and he gets away with murder.” Spacey, who sang during the event with Sting, Stephen Stills and James Taylor, also showed off his Johnny Carson impression, taking a swipe at the coverage of Flight

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Friday stood by his statement regarding embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, saying on KSNV’s What’s Your Point?, “If anyone thinks by any figment of their imagination that what happened up there last week was just people rallying to somebody that was oppressed, 600 people came in armed. They had practiced. They had maneuvered.” Reid continued, “They knew what they were doing. They set up snipers in strategic locations with sniper rifles. They had assault weapons. They had automatic weapons. And they boasted about the fact that they put women and children, in fact one

If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like
