QUITO, Ecuador -- An official in the Galapagos Islands says that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was flown by helicopter from a cruise ship on Jan. 1 for medical attention after suffering intense pain because of a kidney stone. Capt. Santiago Rubio, commander of the port of Santa Cruz, tells The Associated Press that Bezos was near the island on the cruise when he felt the stomach pains. Rubio said Saturday the navy sent doctors to examine Bezos on New Year´s Day. The doctors determined that it was a kidney stone attack and Rubio authorized a helicopter to take the

I passed a stone once--pray it never happens again.

I´m sure Bezos will pay for his special treatment. Just hope he learns something from this. The hard cold reality is that those who pay for everything DO deserve better treatment than those who pay for NOTHING!

But he will probably double down on his slobbering over Obama.

I had a kidney stone in October and spent a week in the hospital, finally having surgery to remove it after it continued to block my ureter (lithotripsy was not an option because of the location of the stone. It was worse than giving birth my three children, and I wouldn´t wish it on my worst enemy. I feel for Mr Bezos, and anyone who has to go through this misery. Often, you don´t even know you have one until it decides to move...then the pain can make you afraid you WON´T die...it´s that bad.

I have had several of these little nightmares! I had one once so big that you could see it on plain film xray. It was the size of a pencil eraser. The lithotripsy wasn´t even working. Finally had a basket retrieval surgery at which time the surgeon damaged my ureter. I was soooo sick for soooo long with it. I am happy that Mr. Bezos had the means to be able to get somewhere for treatment instead of languishing in pain. There are only a few people that I would wish a kidney stone on....

President Obama is lending his political support to fellow community organizer Al Sharpton by headlining the MSNBC host’s National Action Network (NAN) conference this week in New York. Obama’s choice to headline the conference underscores the close ties of the two leaders and provides an increased sense of political legitimacy to the controversial leader and his much-maligned organization. Sharpton’s conference is held in April "not just to commemorate the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, but to honor his legacy by proactively engaging in dialogue that will spawn change." The NY Daily News reports that along with President Obama,

Vice President Joe Biden told a crowd of community college professors that he appreciated their work and he understands how difficult of an occupation it is due to the fact that he sleeps “with a community college professor every night.” “I thank you for what you do and I mean that sincerely. Jill is probably right, I think I’d have the same attitude did I not sleep with a community college professor every night, Biden said. As the audience laughed, Biden interjected. “Oh, the same one, the same one,” he said, waving his hands in an attempt to clarify. “The same one.”

We live in a strange time in American politics. It wasn’t that long ago — like, maybe two years — when a cancer victim struggling with insurance coverage would receive a sympathetic ear from the news media. They might even send one of those “consumer advocate” teams to shove cameras in the faces of the insurance officials and demand to know how they could be so heartless. What the media would surely not do, after hearing of a cancer patient struggling with insurance, would be this:Contact the insurance company.Receive assurance from the insurance company’s PR spokesman that everything was just fine.

Dems´ new 2014 plan:

Democrats know their biggest problem in this year’s midterm election is Obamacare. So top party operatives have settled on a strategy to try blunting the GOP’s advantage: Tell voters Republicans would make the problem worse — raising prescription drug prices, empowering insurance companies and even endangering domestic violence victims. The battle plan, details of which were in a memo obtained by POLITICO, recognizes the unpopularity of the Affordable Care Act. But it also banks on voter fatigue with the GOP’s relentless demands for repeal and counts on poll-backed data that show many Americans would rather fix Obamacare’s problems than scrap it

George Zimmerman is stepping back into the media spotlight — and that is generating sparks of controversy. It’s understandable that plenty of people never want to see his face again. He is the man who killed Trayvon Martin, and while he was acquitted of murder in their fatal street encounter, the fact remains that an unarmed black teenager is dead. Since the Florida trial that became a media sensation, Zimmerman has had several run-ins with law enforcement. After his wife left him, his 27-year-old girlfriend called police and said he had aimed a shotgun at her, and authorities arrested him and temporarily confiscated a shotgun, assault-style rifle and three handguns.

The act was sold on the promise that the estimated 40 million Americans who were without health insurance would finally be covered. The law forces employers with 50

The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either.
