Military retirees say new budget deal
breaks the ultimate promise

KXXV- TV [Waco, TX], by Markeya Thomas

Original Article

The recently passed bipartisan budget deal is causing chaos amongst military retirees. Once a person serves 20 years, they are promised retirement benefits including a 1% Cost of Living adjustment. Under the new budget deal, COLAs are cut for working age retirees, for a medically or 100% disabled military retiree, that money goes a long way.{SNIP}Retirees say congress always cuts vet benefits when there is a budget issue, and enough is enough. "A contract is a contract, a promise is a promise. If you have a contract, you must honor it. You can´t break it because of politics,” said Kevin

Comments:
Ryan´s supporters cannot argue the fact that military men and woman swore an oath in good faith in return for benefits upon completion of 20 years of service. There were no conditions of what they chose to do in civilian life, nor how much money they make. That is not a valid argument. They preformed a service, the government promised them compensation, Ryan is breaking that promise.

When the government makes promises it cannot keep, no one, not even veterans, should count any chickens before they hatch. The government is breaking its most important promise to us all. Namely, the promise not to debase the currency by printing too much money.

The Dear Leader´s/Dims in Congress take on this is: [and I´m paraphrasing to prevent another Taste Police arrest] "Forget them, they don´t vote for us, anyhow."

Sad to see so many Repubicans [not a typo] voting in favor of this.

Yeah, well. This is not the first time Veterans have faced a promise broken. Research the Bonus Army and learn what the government did to those men. And while you´re at it, take a lesson as to what´s in store for those who think the military is going to stand behind We, The People if a president gives the order to Open Fire on the citizenry.

I suppose it´s easy for the Socialist/Liberal administration to run roughshod over agreements with the Vets and Active Military, but one must ask what will happen if those same Vets and Active Military, step back and break their promises to the Administration?

What happens if they all sit down and say no way, we won´t play? It´s as if the administration has decided that the army should be cut back to one meal a day in order to save money oh and one magazine of ammo.

Certain people don´t have any idea of how the government twists up and uses and lies to the military. And further, those same certain people don´t seem to have any knowledge of history: the Bonus Army was a fact of the history of the United States. If certain people don´t know how the Bonus Army was twisted up and used and lied to by the government, then that´s on them, not me.

If certain people don´t know that, given the right set of circumstances, a president will give an order to a General, [Douglas McArthur in the case of the Bonus Army] an order to fire on the citizenry, and if certain people don´t know that given the right set of circumstances, a General will follow an order given by a president, then further research of history are in order for certain people.

Stop posting it and stop insulting them with names like cowards. Go give your history lesson from World War I to someone else. 0bama is but a blurb to our brave men and women, to be replaced by another blurb in 2016.

#9 you do a great job of trying to impugn the integrity of our servicemen and women by implying that they have no care for their fellow citizens. Well I think you are wrong down to the marrow of your bones. You speak of the Military as if they were a government hit squad when in fact they lay their lives on the line so that you have the right to spew that trash.

I suggest that if they were protecting your street or neighborhood you would be out there waving the "star spangled banner" and singing God Bless America, but for now you can imply that history tells you that they would shoot us down in the street.

By now most people are familiar with the potentially deadly situation emerging at the Bundy ranch in Nevada. Right now, the back-story is not nearly as important as the immediate necessity to de-escalate this life-and liberty threatening situation, although it does play an important role and must be addressed. The fact that this situation could have been pulled from the script of the 1974 movie Chinatown or any of the Godfather movies is well known and must be exposed, but not before immediate action is taken to assure the preservation of life and liberty. The current critical nature of the crisis cannot

Two of Nevada’s top elected leaders are riding to the rescue of a rancher whose decades-long range war with the federal government has reached a boiling point in recent days. The federal Bureau of Land Management has surrounded the Clark County ranch of Cliven Bundy with armed officers, helicopters and four-wheel drive vehicles. Last week, they began seizing cattle found grazing on adjacent federal lands in violation of a law meant to protect an endangered desert tortoise. “No cow justifies the atmosphere of intimidation which currently exists nor the limitation of constitutional rights that are sacred to all Nevadans.”

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The continuing battle between the establishment and antiestablishment forces within the Grand Old Party is getting bitter. Scott Reed, a chief political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, quips that the antiestablishment Club for Growth has morphed into the “Club for Dopes.” Club for Growth spokesman Barney Keller charges that the head of a Washington-based pro-incumbent political group, the Main Street Republican Partnership, “may have eaten a lot paint chips as a kid.” Maybe that is what happens in any family feud. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
