Another Problem Obamacare
Won´t Solve: Health Costs

Bloomberg News, by Megan McArdle

Original Article

Does giving people health insurance help control costs? Conventional wisdom holds that it should, by diverting them from expensive emergency room use to less-expensive visits to doctors and nurse practitioners. This argument was very popular with advocates for health reform in 2009, and it remains a sort of folk wisdom among educated people; I’ve heard some version of this argument in virtually every discussion I’ve had about health care in the last decade. To health-care economists, though, the question is more complicated. Health insurance does theoretically let you go to a primary care physician rather than relying on ER docs who are

This article is a blinding flash of the obvious.

Besides being a failure in all aspects revealed so far, Obamacare has surely not held costs down...they rise as I write.

Correct although it didn´t stop Obama from peddling this lie. Did anyone besides us notice? I´ll guess we will wait to see how 2014 pans out.

Good analysis of good data. Shows that we have been sold a wealth redistribution plan that is going to cost a lot more than we were told. And it won´t deliver lower cost or healthier people.

Well now, talk about someone having a real Sherlock Moment (as is no sh** Sherlock)!
All Obamadontcare has done is to drive up costs! Of course we knew that was going to happen. Anybody with a fifth grade education could figure that one out.
Gee, lemme see now, let´s add a whole new HUGE layer of bureaucracy to the government, chock full of people who clock-in for a check, to take care of medical claims, over-ride medical decisions, billing and accounting, who have never done this before. Turning a chimp loose in a candy store would be far more manageable!
Good work Megan...

And what about the people who lost their insurance due to this buffoon? Their costs went up exponentially if they had to go to the hospital!!!

So set up a primary doc in one of the ER rooms. Sort of like a 24 hr clinic. ER´s generally triage everyone and if that determines patient is not truly emergency - they go in the line to the primary doc. Who can be perhaps a retired doc, a new one in training. If it´s not an emergency - the skill level of the doc does not need to be as high. Thus there should be some savings there. First come, first served, no matter how long the wait, co-pays and deductibles still apply (we all have insurance now).

Let´s compute. I have insurance and go to see a physician. The cost to the patient (me) is the copay and the deductible above and beyond the premium. I don´t have insurance and go to the ER and its Free. Let´s see, what shall I do....

instead of referring to it as "conventional wisdom", it should be called "leftist political dogma".

It shouldn´t be called an "argument", it should be called "leftist belief system".

Instead of calling it "folk wisdom" it should be called "unproven Leftist theory"

"So set up a primary doc in one of the ER rooms. Sort of like a 24 hr clinic. ER´s generally triage everyone.."

I can´t tell if this suggestion is a joke or serious.

The sad part is this likely represents the actual thought process of Obama.

Remember, his wife was paid handsomely to divert non-paying low income patients from the hospital ER to outlying doc-in-a-box clinics staffed by UofC residents.

Brother...this is my health and life, and that of my family your messing with. I´ll see anyone I want, for any reason I want, and you will have nothing to say about it. I don;t have a problem with providing a minimal safety net for those make poor life decisions and don;t work/produce/have insurance/bad habits...but i´m not going to sacrifice my health for the sake of "justice" and equality. A two tier health system will evolve (just as in UK and Europe). Guess which tier the politicians will use...

Not a joke. Resignation perhaps in the face of bad human behavior. And for the record - I think it bad policy to force Drs in the ER to HAVE to treat all comers. But that´s the laws we have. And equally bad has been the policy of letting patients walk away from their unpaid bills without further consequence. This admin´s way to solve some of the many problems has been to further destroy the parts that were working.

And so last night I found myself in the sports tier of my cable television package, watching the debut of the network´s newest show, Amazing America with Sarah Palin. Professionally making money from grassroots Republicans inevitably involves trolling liberals, something in which Sarah Palin is an expert, albeit with diminishing returns as her brief period of political relevance recedes. While there´s a certain trolling subtext to her new show, it´s mostly below the surface. I

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Stepping into an issue on the political fringes, Republican Senate candidate Matt Bevin spoke at a Kentucky rally meant to build support for legal cockfighting, a bloody practice illegal nationwide. The tea party-backed challenger to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell portrayed the event last Saturday as a states´ rights rally, but his appearance among cockfight backers prompted one animal-rights group to call on Bevin to withdraw from the May 20 GOP primary. The McConnell campaign scoffed at Bevin´s description of the event. "Only Matt Bevin would go to a cockfighting rally and claim he didn´t know what they were doing

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder told a House Appropriations subcommittee on Friday that his department doesn’t have a “formal relationship” with a controversial Islamic group while a chairman argued that an interpretation of the law has inexplicably tied the Pentagon’s hands in nabbing the Benghazi attackers. At a hearing to review the Justice Department’s FY 2015 budget request, Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Chairman Frank Wolf (R-Va.) reminded Holder, the sole witness, that last year the DOJ was “directed to follow the lead of the FBI to keep distance between government officials and individuals or organizations

Although the president and his aides trumpeted the ObamaCare enrollment figures as a success, the administration did not always see those numbers as something to brag about. In his Rose Garden appearance this week, Obama seemed elated to proclaim "7.1 million Americans have now signed up for private insurance plans through these marketplaces." But it remains unclear how many of those sign ups have paid premiums in order to be officially enrolled, or how many were previously uninsured. In addition, even though officials are celebrating the 7 million mark, the White House once minimized numbers twice that large-- the 14 million people in the

SEATTLE -- The warnings could hardly have been clearer. One technical report told of the "potential for a large catastrophic failure" of the 600-foot hillside above a rural neighborhood near Oso, on the Stillaguamish River. Another noted plainly that it "poses a significant risk to human lives and private property." The danger was so apparent that Snohomish County officials mulled buying out the properties of the residents who lived there. Instead, the county continued to allow the construction of homes nearby. Seven went up even after a significant slide approached the neighborhood in 2006. Whatever the wisdom of its decision,
