Suspect gripes about conditions in jailhouse
Boston Herald, by John Zaremba

An accused Dorchester drug lord — whose champagne-and-sportscar lifestyle ended with his arrest last year — says he can’t stand the conditions in federal lockup, telling a judge the food in jail is cold, the water is foul and the cells have no microwaves. Alexis “Papi-Thing” Hidalgo, the deposed, alleged high-rolling head of the Hendry Street gang, is requesting a transfer to the Wyatt Detention Facility in Rhode Island or MCI-Cedar Junction...

Comments:
"High-rollers" tend to have a hard time adjusting to cold water, cold food and no soap.

If there was any justice, the jailers would only feed the creep the same drugs he pedaled.

In 1795, the United States Supreme Court declared, "The right of acquiring and possessing property, and having it protected, is one of the natural, inherent and inalienable rights of man. No man would become a member of a community, in which he could not enjoy the fruits of his honest labor and industry. The preservation of property then is the primary object of the social compact."

Washington - Americans overwhelmingly favor a bill that would give most undocumented immigrants a pathway towards citizenship, according to a new national poll. And a CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that a majority of the public says that the government´s main focus should be legalizing the status of the undocumented rather than border security. The poll was released Thursday, the same day that House Speaker John Boehner signaled any action on immigration is unlikely this year because House Republicans don't trust President Barack Obama on the issue. According to the poll, 54% say the top priority for the

Appearing on MSNBC, former Secretary of State Colin Powell savaged the Republican Party of which he says he is still a member for catering to “elements” that are overtly hostile to people of other races or nationalities. Powell told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that there are groups within the GOP who “demonize people who don’t look like the way they’d like them to look.” He added that, for this reason, he believes the GOP needs him more than the Democratic Party needs him. Speaking with Mitchell about the need for immigration reform, Powell said that reforming the system was critical. “We are

As noted at the top, William Henck has worked inside the IRS Office of the General Counsel as an attorney for over 26 years. Although it goes over some old ground, we submit the following personal account by Mr. Henck for the consideration of readers in the context of current controversies without further comment. He writes: I have been an attorney in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel for over 26 years. Over a number of years, I have attempted, largely unsuccessfully, to alert the public to abuse within the IRS.

A private girls´ school in Northern California wanted to incorporate Black History Month into lunch time, so it decided to serve fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread. As the Associated Press reports, school officials are apologizing because that was a really, really horrible idea. The school´s principal wrote a letter to parents, who were offended, and said the school doesn´t "perpetrate racial stereotypes." Unfortunately, that´s exactly what they did. In honor of Black History Month, we´d like to explain exactly why your fried chicken and watermelon lunch is ill-advised, with the hope that people will find better ways to honor this

The image below was sent to me by a reader who went for a visit to a physician, and was told that she could not be seen unless she filled out this race and ethnicity questionnaire, and put her name on the form. She initially refused, but they insisted that it was required or she could not see the doctor. The form does indicate that it is mandatory under Section 4302 of Obamacare. Section 4302 is explained by HHS as follows: Overview of Section 4302 of the Affordable Care Act The Affordable Care Act (ACA) includes several provisions aimed at eliminating health disparities in

AUSTIN, Texas — The Wild West tradition of openly carrying your six-shooter on the street has long been banned in Texas under state law. But the next governor could change that. Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed "open carry" law. It would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to wear a pistol on their hip, in full view, while in public. Davis has said she supports expanding gun rights in Texas. In a statement to The Associated Press, she said that includes open-carry — a position that puts her at

There´s been a lot of blathering about who the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is, and so far I´ve resisted taking part. But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. He brokered a budget deal with Patty Murray that was businesslike and low-drama but didn´t alienate the tea

In the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s untimely death, Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman is among the celebs going public about their struggles with substance abuse. Allman, son of Cher and her second husband rock musician Greg Allman, spoke to Entertainment Tonight Tuesday about his former drug use, which began at a young age. This is either a glaring admission of defeat from the White House or… no, that’s really all it could be. After weeks of defending the cancellation of health plans insurers discontinued in 2013 in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act’s coverage mandates, the White House announced in November of last year that it was urging insurers to reinstate those plans. The catch was, of course, that most insurers would be unable to turn on a dime and reinstate those plans. Furthermore, the administration allowed individual states leeway to determine whether or not they would even allow insurers to reinstate

Appearing on America’s Newsroom this morning, Juan Williams suggested it was fair of President Obama to criticize Fox News for its coverage of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack. Asked by host Gregg Jarrett to address the president’s declining to label Benghazi an “an act of terror” immediately following the siege, Williams responded that “At this point, it’s a political football… that I think people are keeping alike to hector Hillary Clinton.” Later on, Jarrett asked whether it was “undignified” and “embarrassing” of the president, during his pre-Super Bowl interview with Bill O’Reilly, to “blame the the Fox News Channel for the Benghazi
