Paul Ryan Defends Military Pension
Cuts as Lawmakers Push Repeal

Breitbart´s Big Peace, by AWR Hawkins

Original Article

As various lawmakers push to repeal cuts to military pensions, Representative Paul Ryan (D-WI) continues to defend. the cuts. House leadership indicates no plans to take up any repeal. On December 27, Breitbart News reported that lawmakers from both parties had introduced legislation repealing Ryan´s military pension cuts in part or in whole. But according to The Hill, there has been little progress toward reversing the cuts once Congress reconvenes in January. If the majority of leadership shares Ryan´s position, the push to reverse is moot because Ryan has made clear he sees "no choice between responsible reforms of military compensation" versus

I voted for Romney/Ryan.
Now Ryan socks it to the military while illegals, welfare junkies, social slackards, and overpaid govt workers get the benefits of my hard earned income.
No way in Hades that I would vote for him now.
No way.
He´s history.

Got a brother on military pension......he agrees with Ryan, says cut are pretty targeted......loss of cost of living is made retro active at 65 and that almost all retirees have full time jobs after retirement. He also pointed out that as vital as out defense is, there is huge mismanagement and abuse.

Ryan said he made the deal to prevent devastating and
"disproportionate cuts to military readiness and modernization " in 2014.
The pension cut is 1 %.
The cuts are delayed until 2016 as Ryan said ,
to give others time to come up with a better plan.
At age 62, all benefits are restored.
This was obviously a temporary plan by Ryan , in order to get the deal done for the greater good of the military.
Too often the right , usually Breitbart , cannot see the forest through the trees.
Calm down , Ryan did not throw the military under the bus, he bought them time.
Geez.

Let´ them dig a bit deeper and be honest with Americans. If the goal is to slow future government expense through future cuts, then why do they (elected clowns like Ryan) ignore the ridiculous special FERS (Federal Employee Retirement System) retirement formula for special employees like himself, federal police, federal firemen and etc.? Why don´t these so call leaders use some common sense and start reforming the special perks out of our government?

Full disclosure: I am drawing a military pension.
I don´t like the way this pension change was done but it is not a cut. It simply slows down the COLA for those below age 62.
Military pension reform is a legitimate issue. It should be done prospectively not retroactively as this was done.
We have so few veterans in elected office and active politics that even the distinction between "veteran" and "retiree" isn´t understood.
Knee-jerk reactions do not lead to good government policy. Here´s an idea: move one Army Division to the Reserves and National Guard - the cost to maintain would be, roughly, 30% of active duty. We don´t need to prepare for World War II.
Here´s another idea: reduce the number of General and Flag Officers, especially in the Air Force. I have been to the Pentagon and have seen Brigadier Generals sent for coffee.
Either of those ideas would crimp readiness and each would save more money.
What´s your idea?

#22, First, let me thank you. Then let me disagree with you - sort of.

Military pension reform is a legitimate issue... ONLY IF other reforms are made as well. If this reduction in COLA were made across the board to everyone who draws a government salary I would not be jumping up and down screaming.

If Mr. Ryan, Ms. Murray, et al, wanted to show TRUE leadership, they would have made this change to the House pensions first, but the skunks in Washington would NEVER consider the same proposal for their own pensions that they feel free to ´ask´ of our military.

This is wrong.

God bless those of you who have served and sacrificed for this country. You should not have to sacrifice again. It is our turn to fight for you.

Fish are losing their survival instinct as the world´s oceans become more acidic because of climate change, researchers have claimed. The study confirms laboratory experiments showing that the behavior of reef fishes can be seriously affected by increased carbon dioxide concentrations in the ocean. Carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is absorbed into ocean waters, where it dissolves and lowers the pH of the water. The new study is the first to analyze the sensory impairment of fish from CO2 seeps, where pH is similar to what climate models forecast for surface waters by the turn of the century. ´These results verify our laboratory

WASHINGTON - Americans increasingly think Democrats have a better plan for healthcare than Republicans, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted after the White House announced that more people than expected had signed up for the "Obamacare" health plan. Nearly one-third of respondents in the online survey released on Tuesday said they prefer Democrats´ plan, policy or approach to healthcare, compared to just 18 percent for Republicans. This marks both an uptick in support for Democrats and a slide for Republicans since a similar poll in February. Big Government: The Congressional Budget Office warns of a terrifying, unprecedented level of national debt in the coming decade. That fits nicely with Democrats´ objectives, but not with our nation´s founding principles. Andrew Jackson, who in 1835 succeeded in paying off the national debt, was famous for considering debt slavery. The current fiscal path the U.S. is on does indeed lead to slavery, but the slave masters of the future will be well-heeled politicians and federal bureaucrats, not plantation owners. The CBO´s new budget projections contain an eerie warning that we are on path from today´s already unfathomable $17.7 trillion in gross

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day.
