Getting Nervous Over The
Perils Of Legalizing Marijuana

Investor´s Business Daily, by Ruth Marcus

Original Article

Marijuana legalization may be the same-sex marriage of 2014 — a trend that reveals itself in the course of the year as obvious and inexorable. At the risk of exposing myself as the fuddy-duddy I seem to have become, I hope not. This is, I confess, not entirely logical and a tad hypocritical. At the risk of exposing myself as not the total fuddy-duddy of my children´s dismissive imaginings, I have done my share of inhaling, though back in the age of bell bottoms and polyester. Next time I´m in Colorado, I expect, I´ll check out some Bubba Kush. Why not? They

Just because something can be done, does not mean it should be done. America rose from the ashes of over 10,000 years of Oppressive Tyrannical forms of Godless Humanist Governance. Yet in less than 250 years that very Nation is SO QUICK to indulge full time in the Baser Human Deviancies.

I have seen the effects of heavy pot use. My son´s friend lost 20 lbs and thought he was dying until his doctor walked in, looked him in the eye and told him it was the pot.

5 days of withdrawal later, he felt a lot better, has put on weight and is doing much better. Anxiety attacks are still an issue many months later.

No one will convince me this is a good idea.

Smoking is smoking. The tobacco companies should jump on this with both feet. Why should tobacco users be shunned and taxed while stoners smoke wherever and whenever they pleas Pot stinks worse than tobacco ever could and does more damage to users.

I believe pot is different than alcohol - it dulls ambition to a far greater degree. Also, as more and more former "forbidden fruits" are mainstreamed, people - especially youth - have to go further and further afield to get their freak on... to be "rebels." This just makes it necessary for youth to journey into ever more dangerous territory in order to be "daring" and "hip." Legalized pot = bad idea. Bet.

Yeah let´s keep wasting billions on treating pot smokers as criminal. The Prohibition of marijuana is working as good as the Prohibition of Alcohol in the 20s and 30s, then it was the raise of organized crime, now the raise of drug cartels in Mexico.
#1 that is total BS, I know people that have smoked pot nearly everyday for 50 years, they ate law abiding citizens that are school teachers, cops, fireman and any other profession you can think of, they have all raise families, paid their taxes, own homes.

But by all means let all keep a really close mind on this and make keep illegal.

Poster #6, if a kid today wants to try Heroin, I´m sure it wouldn´t take the kid but 20 or 30 minutes to find a source. I worked in Hollywood in the 60s and if I wanted to purchase 25 pounds of Heroin, I could have found a dealer in less than a few hours.

I never smoked weed until I got out of the military (1962 through 1966) after five years, and after a ten year break, went back in for another 21 years. Didn´t smoke during my time in the military, but did in between and have after.

I now have a medical Marijuana card and I smoke a bit each day for headaches. I just retired as a museum curator and weed has never dulled my senses or my ability to think on my feet. Weed was legal up until the early 1930s, in my opinion, it doesn´t lead to harder drugs. Stupidity does.

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

Six months ago, in the midst of what the New York Times then termed ObamaCare´s "troubled rollout," Kathleen Sebelius defied calls for her to resign as secretary of health and human services. Last week she announced that she will step down, "ending a stormy five-year tenure marred by the disastrous rollout," as the Times now calls it. Maybe by this October we´ll be up to "catastrophic" or "calamitous." Last October this column argued that there was no reason for Sebelius to go. Nevada rancher standoff turns

Mesquite, Nev. - A day after blinking in a showdown on the range, federal land managers pledged to pursue efforts to resolve a conflict with a southern Nevada rancher who has refused to pay grazing fees for 20 years. Bureau of Land Management spokesman Craig Leff said the agency would continue to try to resolve the matter involving rancher Cliven Bundy "administratively and judicially." Bundy owes more than $1 million in grazing fees, according to the bureau. "The door isn´t closed. We´ll figure out how to move forward with this," he said Sunday. He declined to comment on possible options. Bundy did not

Sharpton’s arrival comes just two days after Obama embraced the controversial activist and former FBI informant at a New York event hosted by the liberal broadcaster. Obama used the Sharpton event to accuse Republicans of trying to reverse the 1965 Voting Rights Act and intentionally suppress black voters with state laws requiring voters to show identification. “The real voter fraud is those that try to deny our rights by making arguments about voter

Like all mergers, the proposed $45.2 billion Comcast CMCSA +1.13% merger with Time Warner Cable TWC +0.69%—the largest and second largest cable providers in the nation—has its advocates and critics. There are certainly important questions about what impact the merger would have on consumers—but there are equally significant issues associated with the highly politicized approval process. The Obama Department of Justice, led by Eric Holder, must review the merger and decide whether to approve or block it. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration and Justice Department have a long track record of pushing the rule of law aside and making decisions based

In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The worst amendment to the Constitution is also one of the vaguest. The right to keep and bear arms might be simplistic, but at least it is direct. Our first amendment is mildly long winded and grotesquely misunderstood. However, the 16th amendment, ratified in 1913, stands as one of the most viscous deteriorations of the American Experiment. Stating simply “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration” the amendment grants to the Federal government powers typically reserved for

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion.
