Fast and Furious gun turns up
after Mexican resort shootout

CNN, by Evan Pérez

Original Article

Posted By:Lalo, 1/1/2014 8:23:20 PM

Washington - A dramatic shootout between authorities and suspected cartel gunmen at a Mexican seaside resort this month has ties to a botched U.S. gun operation. A U.S. official said Tuesday that investigators have traced at least one firearm recovered at a December 18 gunfight in Puerto Peñasco, across from the Arizona border, to Operation Fast and Furious. That´s the disastrous operation run by agents in the Phoenix office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Agents allowed suspected gun smugglers to buy about 2,000 firearms with the goal of trying to find and prosecute high-level traffickers.

Ah, the gift that keeps on taking.

Thank you, Grassley, Issa, and Boehner for doing very nearly nothing about this. You three had the unique opportunity to do what´s right and you didn´t.

The guy who rode in the armored Ford truck was on Forbes 400 richest people list. Nice of Holder to subsidize his empire with tax payer funded guns. As if that guy needed help from Holder to get guns.
So gun possession was going to get him locked up as opposed to bribery, kidnapping, extortion, murder, narcotics or anything else?

NOT a "botched operation". This is exactly what the antigun Justice Dept and ATF wanted to happen. They were intending to use an artificially created link between Mexican drug crime and US guns as the reason to clamp down on US firearms rights.

The only failure in their plan is that it was discovered that they were sending these guns to the cartels.

No question about it. Holder should be tried and found guilty of being an accessory to murder.

And on Thursday, the Dalai Lama prayed in the U.S. Senate. With dozen of lawmakers listening raptly, the Nobel laureate from Tibet opened the session with his favorite prayer and words of advice. He delivered his brief remarks in both a foreign tongue as well as self-described "broken English." "With our thoughts, we make our world," said the Dalai Lama, dressed in gold and red robes. "Our mind is central and precedes our deeds. Speak or act with a pure mind and happiness will follow you like a shadow that never leaves." He hoped for joy in the world

Alan Dershowitz: Glenn Greenwald

Christmas is supposed to be a time of putting aside differences and brotherhood and such, but clearly no one told Alan Dershowitz, because during an appearance on CNN yesterday, he went after journalist Glenn Greenwald for his work on the NSA leaks and accused him of being an anti-American ideologue who would never badmouth terrorist regimes. Dershowitz popped up on-air right after Dana Bash spoke with Greenwald himself, and Dershowitz wasted no time in going after both Greenwald and Snowden. He insisted that Snowden had other options aside from just going public, in spite of the national security apparatus

Alan Dershowitz has been on the attack this week regarding the reporting on the Edward Snowden NSA revelations, and he kept it up when both he and Washington Post reporter Barton Gellman appeared on Hardball Thursday night. Dershowitz did not go after Gellman in the same aggressive manner he’s gone after Glenn Greenwald, but he did take a not-so-veiled swipe when he said that journalists doing reports on the information Snowden gave them are “people acting on his behalf.” Dershowitz agreed with the recent federal court ruling that the NSA phone program is unconstitutional “as if relates to American citizens,”

One of China´s creepier policies in the Tibetan Autonomous Region is a 2011 initiative known as the "nine haves." Some of the nine are about development ("to have roads, to have water, to have electricity"), but one is less about helping Tibetans and more about entrenching Beijing´s control in a region that doesn´t seem to want it: "to have a national flag." Every house and monastery building would be required to fly the crimson, five-starred flag of China. (Monasteries are also required to display portraits of Chinese leaders.) Clayton County police say the two men -- who have yet to be identified -- took 14-year-old Ayvani Hope Perez from her home near Atlanta early Tuesday morning. Perez´s aunt, Suky Guerrero, said family members are trying to raise the money to secure Perez´s release, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. A law enforcement official close to the investigation confirmed the ransom to the newspaper. Police early Tuesday morning were stopping cars and checking them during an

Her place in the DAR, a predominantly white organization whose annual convention at Constitution Hall in the District ends Sunday, was proof of her extraordinary family history. How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but
