No, 2.1 million haven´t
enrolled in Obamacare plans

Washington Examiner [DC], by Philip Klein

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 1/1/2014 1:48:33 PM

With President Obama´s health care law scheduled to begin in earnest when the new year kicks off, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius claimed on a Tuesday conference call that as of Dec. 28, "2.1 million people have enrolled in a private insurance plan" through the program. Later in the call, Sebelius emphasized that enrollments wouldn´t be completed until individuals paid their first month´s premiums. But HHS officials still won´t disclose how many of the 2.1 million they claim enrolled through the federal healthcare.gov website or one of the state-based exchanges actually paid for coverage.

And how many are Medicaid? They sign up through the Obamacare website but are not actually in the program.

Well, I enrolled and now have a health care insurance policy (Cigna) for the first time in 2.5 years. I have type 2 diabetes and nobody would give me insurance at any price.

And I´m not embarrassed about taking it either. I´ve been paying taxes for 40+ years and never took (or got) a thing from the government. I´m taking now.

I suspect everyone will agree that it´s good that cases like yours finally give you healthcare coverage, #3, but that fact doesn´t make the entire program a good one. It only emphasizes that a reasonable number of changes to past insurance policy options could and should have been enacted without creating this unbelievably bad fiasco for the vast majority of people. We wish you well, but this catastrophic program needs to be repealed.

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, 25 years now, through my wife´s employer. Cost is nearly $10K/year, just for me. Hardly ever used it, maybe $8K total in 25 years. Three weeks ago, knee injury, Ortho Surgeon gives me a prescription for an MRI. Blue Cross turns me down. "Take a pain pill" I can hardly walk. I am told all insurance companies are bracing for impact.

Thanks newbies to the Health Care system! Guess now I count as dirt.

Just because we can identify a beneficiary of this program does not in any way prove that it is a good program.

EG--The death camps in Germany may have provided good stable employment for thousands of people but that does not make them a good idea.

The ´net´ effect is bad.....very bad.

Why should we believe anything she or this regime claims?

Has #3 had to pay the premium yet?

Why has the entire system been wrecked for the sake of an amorphous and fungible number of uninsured?

Anyone with pre-existing conditions, IF these can be connected to behavior (except sexual promiscuity, i guess,) will find Uncle and Auntie Sam knocking at your door and on your head.

They are going to have to cut costs. Your "usefulness to the System" will determine your access to limited resources.

This is reality.

Do you know that in former East Block/Communist countries, hospitalized patients must have family or friend bring food, linens, provide some "nursing care"? STILL.

OH, and by the way, the Elites do quite well, always have. And our very own elites, --One Percenters notwithstanding-- they´re set to live this way here. As everywhere else, they do not and will not give a dang about you... it´s self-delusion to think otherwise.

Socialism is an utter nightmare. In less than 5 years this deceitful bunch of liars has done incredible damage to our Republic.

Well. back to watching Eric Clapton´s Crossroads Blues Festival. a very very very nice distraction.

I can´t get real "giddy" about 2.1 million signing up. How many people are there in the U.S? How many of those people had insurance they liked? How many people in the U.S. legally were not insured? How many people have lost their insurance coverage? 2.1 is nothing and probably is an inflated number anyway.

With these questions the idea of 2.1 million people signing up sounds stupid. To go thru all this doubt, confusion & leading by stupidity is wrong for so many reasons.

The government doesn´t belong in health care, except for 2 reasons. Drop the insurance rules that don´t allow insurance companies to sell coverage in all 50 states, and pass Tort reform to get lawyers out of chasing ambulances. Supply and demand not to mention "real" competition between insurance companies, would be good for us all.

If people think all this messing around is going to make coverage for all, I have some ocean front property to sell you in Arizona. The government will be making decisions they have no business making and will be making for the wrong reasons. The average American will regret the day this power grab was implemented. God help us all....!!!

I read that 1.5 of the "over 2 million" who enrolled, actually enrolled in Medicaid, which leaves the balance, about 500,000, actually enrolled in Obmascare. And good luck to them...watch the deductibles, etc.!

The famous Clinton White House document known as "the conspiracy commerce memo" has finally surfaced. The memo, which details how right-wing conspiracy theories made their way into the mainstream press, was written in 1995 and first acknowledged by the White House in 1997. The idea of a “conspiracy” was also famously referred to by Hillary Clinton in 1998, when she cited a “vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he ran for president.” The memo, part of the latest trove of documents released by the Clinton Presidential Library on Friday, outlines “the communication stream of conspiracy

Shortly after the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare, the CBO projected that 9 million people would buy Obamacare-compliant insurance through newly established government-run exchanges. Now, after an enrollment period that his administration expanded by about two months—to more than half a year—President Obama says that 8 million people have “signed up” for (but in many cases haven’t actually bought) insurance through those exchanges. The Obama administration’s stated goal was to have 39 percent of those who bought such insurance be between the ages of 18 and 34. Now Obama says the actual percentage is 28 percent. Only in Washington, D.C. could someone

House Democrats, battered by Koch brothers ads and facing a grim outlook for the midterms, are providing the clearest indication yet of how they plan to respond: By shoring up imperiled incumbents and only the most promising challengers, but most likely leaving some of the party’s upstart hopefuls to fend for themselves. The strategy, detailed in nearly two dozen interviews with party officials and strategists, is a tacit acknowledgement of the ominous political environment Democrats are up against this year. The goal is to stop Republicans from padding their 17-seat edge and keep the party within striking distance of the majority

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'
