The Straight Dope on Homosexuality
Taki Magazine, by Elizabeth McCaw

Original Article

The Department of Justice reports that homosexuals are more likely (15.4% of them) than heterosexual men (10.8%) to be physically attacked by a domestic partner. But the DOJ also found that 39% of cohabiting lesbians say they have been raped, attacked, or stalked by a lover, as opposed to 21.7% of heterosexuals who live with men. This means a lesbian is about twice as likely as a hetero woman to be stalked or slapped around by a live-in lover. A hugely disproportionate number of male serial killers have been homosexual; figures run from 40 to 60% depending on definitions. Some

As a heterosexual, life insurance and health insurance should cost me less than it does for homosexuals, right?

These figures would suggest that when it comes to homosexuality there is a lot more going on than "we were born this way."
It kind of makes the adjective "gay" even more incongruous, as well.

I don´t know about this article. While I´m open to reading anything, this article seems to fall into the trap of using identity politics as the basis for drawing conclusions.

For example, what is a "homosexual male"? Is it someone who has sexual relations with women but who engages in same-sex activity occasionally with men? Does having one same-sex experience compared to, say, five opposite-sex experiences constitute grounds for calling a man "homosexual"? Why not call him "heterosexual"? After all, he´s had more heterosexual experiences than homosexual experiences.

Labels can be terribly misleading in terms of conclusions. They can be used to demonize an entire class of people. I always groan when scientists in particular use labels loosely.

Very interesting article. Very.

If her statistics are correct, and I am deeply skeptical only because so many studies and stats are based on speciousness these days, then the entire gay culture is a mass of dysfunction. That said, I agree with most of her opinions on the matter.

You don’t have to be a religious fundamentalist to think homosexuals are perverts. They are. Just don’t risk your job by saying so in public.

Amen, sister, but I take issue with the premise that only "religious fundamentalists" think homosexuality is a perversion. Many people, non-"fundamentalist" Christians, Jews and Muslims and probably secularists think it´s a perversion, too.

We value marriage not because married people copulate—though of course they do—but because they produce children.

Not necessarily. Many people marry out of love and a desire for commitment to another person, not to bear children. Many heterosexual marriages without children (by choice) are happy and stable over long periods. One reason is that they don´t have to "stay together because of the children."

UPSHOT: Lots of stats and speculation and opinion, but as the writer said, "In fact, no one really seems to know what causes homosexuality."

My own theory is that gay men are gay because so many of them were raised without strong male role models. American men have been feminized over decades. Even the military have been wussified. When a culture gets too much of that, it collapses out of weakness.

You don´t want to be on the receiving end of jealous angry butch.Talk about vicious and behavior from another planet. One incident was at an outside party about 25 years ago while everyone stood around in deafening silence. The poor girls wrist was turned around backwards among other things I won´t mention.I hardly see any gay couples in public where I live or any outlandish gays for that matter.

There´s all kinds of dirty secrets they hide about gays, especially in the medical world and ER´s.People talk about the expense of AIDs but gay bowel reconstruction is also very expensive and quiet.Even if I wanted to be gay, that would be a stop sign right there.

I had the TV on late one night and I never did figure out what channel it was but there was a bunch of drunk gays on a rooftop firing bottle rockets out of their butts. I have to admit is was funny as hell.

In 60 years the only women I´ve known where I suspected abuse were lesbians. And surprisingly it could be he more butch ones who were the targets of abuse. I suspect that is because they share a trait with battered husbands- they think because they could overpower the abusive partner if they wanted to, it isn´t a big deal.

Can´t for the life of me understand why if homosexuals live these loving committed relationships they feel compelled to have the approval of everyone else. Wouldn´t their successful relationships be enough for them. Problems arise when they force straights to applaud their lifestyle. Parading their sexuality in the public square is offensive straight or gay. Gay pride parades confirm what they so desperately try to deny, that it is all about sex and their lives are defined by their sexual practices.

Ok. Will somebody explain this to me ? Homosexuals have been with us for thousands of years. They cannot reproduce. Thus any "gay gene" would have been bred out of the world population over time, and seriously undermines "I was born this way" mantra. Maybe this is an over simplification, but I´ve not heard a good answer yet, and tend to believe that it is learned behavior along with environmental factors.

#11. The attraction to sodomy appears to have been around since the beginning of time. However, when people needed their own families and children to provide security in old age and infirmity it was not in their self interest to define their entire persona around a perverse attraction. Instead it was in their self interest that such people conformed their behavior, got married and had children. (Oscar Wilde was married and had children the conventional way.)

It wasn´t until the government began providing old age pensions and healthcare that the queer lifestyle emerged.

"Born that way" does not mean there is no sin.

Having a sin nature in us means there are many sins to which we succumb due to the fall. Even Paul, after his conversion, did things he knew were wrong. With God´s grace, however, the sanctification process nonetheless continues.

I highly recommend the writings of Joe Dallas.

I read an article on NewsMax several years ago on the mortality rates and life span of homosexuals. It was staggering. I can´t find the article now, but I believe it said that 20-25% of lesbians were murdered. It compared the health problems of smokers vs homosexuals and the former did not hold a candle to the latter. If I remember correctly, average "old age" for homosexuals was about 42 years compared to about 80 for heterosexuals. To encourage and normalize this behavior is extremely destructive and unloving.

I also remember reading an article by a very liberal female journalist who had covered a gay rights parade. Going into it she was open minded and accepting. Afterward, she admitted there was something "evil" (her words) about these people and their lifestyle.

I´m not saying marriage is a bad idea. In fact, it´s probably a good idea but I think the primary reason most people get married is to reduce insecurity by lowering the possibility that the person you are drawn to might leave you. Not saying love isn´t real, and that´s probably why most people think they are getting married but reducing insecurity, admitedly a less concious motivator, is a biggie.

Everyone likes to feel secure and we are talking a legal contract here. Those are clearly harder to break than just moving out one day cause you are tired of your partner. And it´s really kind of a silly contract if you think about it: "I promise to love you forever". Until I change my mind, of course.

I suspect, but don´t know, that homosexuals are substantialy more insecure than the rest of us and "marriage" would appeal to them even more if, in fact, I am right that the primary reason for marriage is to reduce insecurity.

One thing is certain, with high divorce rates, something is off kilter. There is something we don´t "get".

They´ve been searching for the "gay gene" for decades now. They´ve yet to find it. I don´t believe they ever will. Considering all of the incredible advances in genetic research and DNA mapping, they´d have found it by now if it existed. Since they´ve yet to find, I´m inclined to believe it doesn´t exist. Which means that homosexuality is behavioral, a choice. As a society, we need to decide what behavior we are going to sanction in order to maintain an orderly civilization. While I don´t believe gays should be persecuted, I don´t believe they should be rewarded with special rights and privileges either, as their behavioral choices, largely selfish, indulgent, and self-destructive, do next to nothing to advance civilization. I´ve long believed the current gay-rights push has its roots in the 1980s Aids epidemic and the desire for access to partners´ health insurance to treat this self-inflicted condition. Gay marriage hasn´t stopped the high risk behavior that leads to HIV. Why reward such poor choices with rights and privileges? And given that they are such a small minority, it´s silly to pander to the gay community to the degree that politicians, Rats in particular, do. Let´s hope Phil Robertson fired the opening shot in turning back the gay tide.

The media does for the homosexual community what it does for liberal politicians; they pick and choose what stories they report based on what will help or hurt their cause.
When we don´t get the truth, it´s easy for evil to have its way.

What I find strange about homosexuality, take men for example; they act like women or rather a caricaturization of a woman, a perverted version of feminine. They want a man who acts like a woman but don´t want a woman? What is that?
Same for lesbians. Here are women, some of whom act like men or are looking for women who act like men, yet they don´t want a man who acts like a man, they want a woman who acts and looks like a man? To me, there is something psychologically wrong with that.

And the argument that they are born that way? They use that as a legitimate reason for being gay. If it is, then the same argument can be used by pedophiles, drunks, druggies, thieves, murderers, etc. They can´t help it they were born that way.

Finally, is the one-sided view of who is vile and bigoted on this issue. Because I believe as the Bible teaches I am a vile bigoted homophobe. But those who support it, based on nothing more than opinion, are tolerant, loving and moral. Homosexual supporters can make false accusations about me and it´s OK but if they don´t agree with what I say homosexuality, then I am evil; even though I have the backing of OUR God.

When truth is silenced and lies replace it, that tells me that this is evil.

Years ago, I was quite friendly with a NYC psychotherapist (long deceased) who was the last living personal disciple of Alfred Adler from Adler´s peripatetic days. My friend´s specialty was counseling homosexual males in group therapy sessions. He often confided in me that they are indeed the most dysfunctional, violent and perfidious group of human beings he´s ever worked with.

From a biological point of view, there is no gay gene. Sexual orientation is determined in utero, just not by DNA. It is determined by the amount of estrogen the mother produces. For a male, the estrogen is converted to testosterone and is then used in the expression of certain DNA which determine brain structure. The brain structure of homosexuals resembles that of heterosexuals of the opposite gender. The balance between the estrogen level and the child´s gender will determine sexual orientation.

My belief is that homosexuality is not a genetic flaw but primarily a product of prenatal hormonal influences. Such influences can cause the cognitive development of a fetus to orient differently than the physical gender assignment. This deviance can then lead to feelings of alienation and other social maladies.

Thanks for the link #20, long read but well worth it. Very illuminating. His summary is quite powerful:

"Once, when preparing a lecture on Cardinal Newman, I summarized his classic Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine in this fashion: Truth ripens, error rots. The homosexual rights movement is rotten to the core. It has no future. There is no life in it. Sooner or later, those who are caught up in it are going to wake up from the dream of unbridled desire or else die. It is just a matter of time. The question is: how long? How many children are going to be sacrificed to this Moloch?"

Domestic violence is the homosexual community´s dirty little secret the MSM refuses to report.

So are the CDC´s stats on the vastly greater rates of drug abuse in the homosexual community when compared with ´normal´ people.

And the CDC´s stats on the vastly greater rates of depression in the homosexual community when compared with ´normal´ people.

Also the CDC´s stats on the vastly greater rates of suicide and attempts in the homosexual community when compared with ´normal´ people.

Plus CDC´s stats on the vastly greater rates of STDs in the homosexual community when compared with ´normal´ people.

Homosexuality is a dysfunctional and self-destructive behavior which used to be classified as a mental disorder until vociferous advocacy - not science - declassified it as a mental disorder.

These people are sick and need compassion and help - not facilitation, advocacy and legal sanction to engage.

As #4 rightly says, most people in America believe marriage is centrally about "love and a desire for commitment to another person, not to bear children." Most believe in sexuality which is usually, and intentionally, sterile; and in childlessness by choice.

That being so, what real reason is there to be opposed to gay marriage?

How is it coherent to say that --- thanks to condoms and hormones --- altered, de-natured sex is OK for "straights" but not for "gays"?

In my view, only the Catholics (and a few others who do not practice contraceptive sex) are consistent about this.

The rest are self-contradicting, and may just possibly be bigots after all.

If marriage is based on "love and a desire for commitment to another person, not to bear children" as #31 suggests, then you should be able to marry anyone and everyone you "love." Your mother, father, brother, sister, five women, ten guys, whoever and how many you want. If the basis for marriage is who you say you love, marriage means nothing. But I think that is the point of leftists.

with respect to some of the clasification issue, some may recall a discussion here recently on the category of "MSM", which is among other things used as a CDC reporting category, meaning Men having Sex with Men, thereby for cultural sensitivities (mostly racial) avoiding being classed as homosexual.
.
my concern is reflected in the article and in #4´s callout, a reminder that too often one is risking one´s livelihood for saying out loud what all but the stupidest can plainly see. Homosexual BEHAVIOR (not the temptation) is morally wrong, perverted in every sense of the word, and destructive to both the individuals involved and the society in which they live.
And we all know it.
It is not something to be celebrated and proudly practiced, any more than adultery or swindling is. It is something that calls for a recollection of the concepts of shame and repentance. It is not the unforgivable sin, but it certainly *is* a sin. As are many other behaviors. The Lord says so, and He has a right to make that call.
So we have two problems at least. One is homosexual behavior and all that grows out of that. The other, equally serious, is the actions of the self-anointed superior minds against those who correctly call out this behavior as wrong. Both need to be addressed. The Duck Dynasty flap highlighted that.

He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing.

From ´Dune´

The way we view life is largely a construct of culture. Culture is built on complex, common foundational entities and relationships that are characterized and associated in our minds with specific words or phrases. We come to understand what the terms ´home´, ´family´, ´marriage´, ´work´ and a myriad of other things intuitively because the definition is commonly understood.

Leftists understand that the common cultural understanding can be disrupted and effectively destroyed simply by re-defining key culturally-iconic terms.

´Gay marriage´ is the tip of the leftist spear. Marriage and family are our key cultural foundations.

The ´gay marriage´ movement is about destroying the bourgeois, not about ´love´ and commitment. Those who emotionally fight for what they truly believe is a humanitarian cause are useful idiots.

#15 – To an extent, for sensationalism and/or trendiness

#17 – God instituted marriage between a man and a woman. (Genesis 2:18-24)

Homosexuality is sexual perversion. What I mean by that is that it´s practitioners are a small minority of the general public just like guys who like to wear their wife´s underwear or other oddball sexual practices. Since they are a small minority, their sex acts will always be outside the norm and they will never receive the approval and celebration that they crave. What they want will always be just out of reach.

Look, I can understand why some women want to be able to wear plaid flannel lumberjack shirts and have crewcut hair on only one side of their head. But stop yammering to me about why your vagina needs to monologue (as opposed to what, blubbering motorboat on your partner´s launch area?).

And gay guys, yes I get it. Sex is great, but really, in a poopyhole? Really?! Even our family dog, whose objects of humping desire know almost no bounds, won´t go there. "If you support what is now described in euphemistic terms as "the blessing of same-sex unions," in practice you are supporting the abolition of the entire Christian sexual ethic, and its substitution with an unrestricted, laissez faire, free sexual market."

Thank you #20, for the link. As another L-dotter said, "This is the best piece on homosexuality written truthfully by a gay man."

The truth be known there are a lot more very sneaky lesbians out there then over the top flaming gay men. While a portion of the lesbian population group will flip once they meet a man who they want to settle down with and have children, it is not like that with over the top gay men.Generally the laws today allow gays and lesbians to do their thing. Unfortunately they are not happy with that and are intent on pushing their lifestyle on everybody else, especially on vulnerable children.

Hypocrisy is a strange animal. For example, WHY:

is it ok for a man to receive Oral Sex from a Female (thank you bill Clinton) yet receiving it from a man is horrible?

is it ok that man can perform anal sex on a woman but on a man it is horrible?

do some women (including teenagers) prefer to engage in anal sex to avoid pregnancy?

Is that hypocrisy?

Some times you learn things by reading items that you may not care to read but then we are entitled to remain gullible, ignorant and stupid.

Thank you, #24 and 25, for some cold water facts on this raging debate. Good grief, don´t people know gay people who they like and admire? Don´t they know any gay couples who are awfully mundane and normal like other couples? Of course, being gay is an aberration but it is an aberration that was nature-made, just like any other deviation from the "norm," which most of us have in some way. I have known several very stable gay couples, male and female, and I am happy for their happiness.

When my wife and I were considering marriage, it was clear that for each of us a statement by the other that children were not wanted would be a deal breaker.

While I know that there are heterosexual couples that choose not to have children (and many others that pay thru the nose for scientific help in conceiving), we are provided by nature with only ONE possible pairing of two people that can possibly conceive and thus allow a society to continue. Only ONE. The situation is essential and special and needs to be treated that way.

Yes, gays seek ablution from the population, but it is never enough. What they really are seeking is God´s OK. Somewhere deep down they know what they do is wrong in His eyes, even as they deny it. I believe this drives the violence they use against each other.

Suppose you were building a society from the do-called "state of nature." Wouldn´t traditional marriage be necessary for civilization to survive? Traditional marriage provides a means for raising children, cements family relations, recognizes that the majority of women cannot handle raising children and providing for them solely on their own, and prevents the poverty and social problems that arise when children are born outside of traditional marriage. But, as we have seen, civilization has survived just fine for thousands of years without gay marriage. I would venture to say that gay marriage provides miniscule societal benefit and imposes considerable costs in terms of tax benefits and court costs when the "marriages" break up.

This nation has stepped over the line and God´s judgement won´t be pleasant upon us.

Homos are homos because they give in to a specific weakness of their own sin nature. All people are born with a sin nature, ever since Adam and the woman rebelled against God´s ONE rule in the Garden of Eden. They wanted to know of ´good´ and ´evil´, and lo and behold, they got their desire by eating of the forbidden fruit of that tree (not an apple either).

Sin natures can be as varied as fingerprints. One person could be a womanizer, pederast, drunk, kleptomaniac, serial murderer, etc., but one could also be rebellious against the gender God assigned to him/her. Suppressing homo ´lust´ is no different from a man suppressing an urge to commit adultery/fornication. He should know that it is wrong and chose to not do it, period! Eventually, with enough Christian spiritual growth from the intake of God´s Word, the sin nature will be tamed, but never eliminated, and life is more delightful.

Of course, this is nowhere near the case of homo-slavery today. These people are anti-God, anti-morality, anti-Christian, angry, bitter, vindictive, arrogant, as it ´rains´ on their ´gay-parade´ that all of society won´t accept them as ´normal´. They are sick in their degenerate sin, and will never be happy. Did you notice that this study did not report on the extremely high rate of suicides within the homo community? It´s ironic that ´gays´ can be so suicidal (s/o).

I believe that all homos should be required to register with the State, and have it printed on their driver´s license if they want "protected class" status.

Nobody is born gay: from www.moonbattery.com:

Science confirms that, liberal talking points notwithstanding, sexual behavior is a matter of choice, not inborn destiny:

Eight major studies of identical twins in Australia, the U.S., and Scandinavia during the last two decades all arrive at the same conclusion: gays were not born that way.

“At best genetics is a minor factor,” says Dr. Neil Whitehead, PhD. Whitehead worked for the New Zealand government as a scientific researcher for 24 years, then spent four years working for the United Nations and International Atomic Energy Agency. … His PhD is in biochemistry and statistics.

Identical twins have the same genes or DNA. They are nurtured in equal prenatal conditions. If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also be gay.

“Because they have identical DNA, it ought to be 100%,” Dr. Whitehead notes. But the studies reveal something else. “If an identical twin has same-sex attraction the chances the co-twin has it are only about 11% for men and 14% for women.” …

A significant twin study among adolescents shows an even weaker genetic correlation. In 2002 Bearman and Brueckner studied tens of thousands of adolescent students in the U.S. The same-sex attraction concordance between identical twins was only 7.7% for males and 5.3% for females—lower than the 11% and 14% in the Australian study by Bailey et al conducted in 2000.

It is only that high because twins tend to share an environment and influence each other.

Because identical twins are always genetically identical, homosexuality cannot be genetically dictated. “No-one is born gay,” [Dr. Whitehead] notes.

No one is born a pedophile either. Keep that in mind when moonbats inevitably push the envelope a little bit further by insisting we regard pedophilia as normal and screeching that anyone who won’t comply is a pedophobe who oppressively discriminates against helpless victims.

I remember reading statistics very similar to these in the 1980s. Domestic violence in the homosexual community, particularly the lesbian community, has been the "dirty little secret" that the proponents of "sexual orientation equality" have been desperately trying to bury for decades.

As pertinent as these facts are, they won´t get much play outside of the fringe media. The MSM is too fearful of the gay lobby´s power.

Concerning the argument that "gays are born", I believe homosexuality is hereditary only in the same sense that diarrhea is hereditary -- in that it runs in your jeans..

If "genes" were involved, the practiced would have vanished generations ago, since they possess no means to procreate themselves.

Instead, they must do what they are doing, depend on normal people to produce adoptable children so they can raise them to be their next generation or enlist "surrogates" for one half of the process to the same ends.

Oh, BTW, the optimal word in the thread title is Dope. The question it raises is, who is the dope?

I sometimes cringe at some of the things the latter would be subject to reading. President Obama is lending his political support to fellow community organizer Al Sharpton by headlining the MSNBC host’s National Action Network (NAN) conference this week in New York. Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
