North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has spoken of the "elimination of factionalist filth" in his first public reference to the execution of his uncle last month. In a new year message broadcast on state TV, he said "resolute action" had strengthened the country´s unity. [Snip] Kim Jong-Un said action to "eliminate factionalist filth" within the ruling Workers´ Party had bolstered the country´s unity "by 100 times". "Our party´s timely, accurate decision to purge the anti-party, anti-revolutionary elements helped greatly cement solidarity within our party," he said, accusing Mr Chang of trying to build his own power base within the ruling

Kimmy the Pooh, we´re all delighted that your late unlamented uncle got mortared to death so that not even a speck of him can be found. That´s good punishment for a vile creature responsible for the deaths of untold thousands.

When can we expect similar great news about your stupid-looking self?

And while on the subject: Do youse pick rulers by stupidest-looking-wins? You and yo pappy and yo grandpappy all look like the nerd nobody ever chose for dodgeball. Or basketball. Or a rock fight, even.

Republicans clashed with the Internal Revenue Service´s new commissioner Wednesday in a Capitol Hill hearing that featured the unveiling a document indicating that the agency planned as early as 2012 to change its rules in a way that justified singling out tea party groups for special scrutiny. A top Democratic congresswoman from Texas boasted recently that a new ´Full Employment Caucus´ of liberal lawmakers in Washington will make its ´number one agenda´ providing the White House with ready-made executive orders that President Barack Obama can use to implement his agenda without seeking the approval of Republicans in Congress. Sheila Jackson Lee, a far-left legislator who has served in Congress since 1995, said during a Jan. 29 press conference the new caucus will be working to ´give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength.´ ´In fact,´ she said, ´I think that should

One of the most unfortunate pieces of White House spinning over the Iran nuclear negotiations is that those who supported new sanctions legislation – including several Democrat senators--were effectively "voting for war". They weren´t. What they were voting for was an alternative way of dealing with Iran. A more results-driven and fact-based approach, that clashes with several of the premises that underpin the current Kerry-Obama approach to the negotiations. The new Senate sanctions bill (now successfully stalled, it seems) didn´t call for new sanctions straight away. What it did was seek to put a hard floor under the negotiations process:

Work has been halted on the expansion of the Panama Canal, one of the world´s busiest shipping routes. The stoppage follows a breakdown in talks between the Panama Canal Authority (APC) and the Spanish-led consortium behind the project. The two sides are engaged in a dispute over who should foot the bill for cost overruns totalling $1.6bn (£1bn). The consortium says 10,000 jobs are at risk but the Canal´s authorities say they will not "yield to blackmail". Canal Administrator Jorge Quintano accused the GUPC consortium of being "inflexible" in its negotiations. He did not rule out a deal could still

War veterans and their families are gathering at Bletchley Park today to celebrate the seventieth anniversary of Colossus, the world´s first electronic computer. Designed by British telephone engineer Tommy Flowers, Colossus was built to speed up code-breaking of the complex Lorenz cipher, used in communications between Hitler and his generals during World War II. Its first job was on 5 February 1944, and its work thereafter is widely thought to have shortened the war and saved countless lives. Colossus occupied the size of a living room (7ft high by 17ft wide and 11ft deep), weighed five tonnes, and used 8kW

The jaunty slogan on the metallic green tin is meant to convey the carefree essence of childhood: “Don’t Grow Up. 7 Up.” When viewed through the lens of recent headlines, however, the phrase acquires a more sinister interpretation. According to an American study published this week, three cans of carbonated drinks contain enough calories to triple a person’s risk of developing heart disease. The suggestion is that if you spend your childhood knocking back gallons of sugary liquid, you may not get the opportunity to grow up at all. The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing. (SNIP) The new law will free people, young and old, to pursue careers or retirement without having to worry about health coverage.

The Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, became law almost four years ago. It became operational last Oct. 1. Yesterday, Feb. 4, 2014, the ACA may well have been dealt its death blow. The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare. The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer

President Obama, outlining his push Tuesday to bring high-speed Internet access to more U.S. schools, said Americans should demand the same level of technology in learning facilities as they do in coffee shops. “In a country where we expect free Wi-Fi with our coffee, we should definitely demand it in our schools,” Obama said in Adelphi, Md., highlighting $750 million in new commitments from private companies to put digital learning labs in schools. Under his plan, the Federal Communications Commission will also spend $2 billion to connect 20 million students to wireless technologies.

I don´t believe Woody Allen is a child molester. But when I read Dylan Farrow´s letter in The New York Times accusing her adoptive father of sexual abuse, I didn´t think she was making it up. I believe it´s a scenario she´s come to believe after it was implanted in her impressionistic head as a kid. On March 18, 1993, after a Connecticut prosecutor declined to charge Allen after a three-month investigation of the same allegations, I interviewed him at his Fifth Ave. apartment.
