Obamacare sign-ups pass 1 million mark

More than 975,000 Americans signed up for health care coverage via nationwide healthcare marketplaces in December, according to a new report released on Sunday. The new numbers bring total federal health care enrollments to 1.1 million--but still fall far below the target of 3.3 million sign-ups by the end of the year. User activity on the HealthCare.gov website ´nearly doubled in the days before the January 1 deadline compared to the first few weeks of the month,´ said report author Marilyn Tavenner, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. ´We are in the middle of a sustained, six-month

The Rise Of Elitist Fascism And The Death Of American Democracy
An essay in hypertext by Scott Bidstrup

"The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power... The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism... But always and everywhere they can be identified by their appeal to prejudice and by the desire to play upon the fears and vanities of different groups in order to gain power. They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."

-- U.S. Vice President Henry A. Wallace, quoted in the New York Times, April 9, 1944

Perhaps I missed something but how is it that 3 million became the goal? Wasn´t it 30 million uninsured we needed government to swoop in to save? And wasn´t there a hard deadline? The bar keeps lowering and we miss acknowledging the colossal failure. How would public support have been and how would the 2012 election have turned out if the stated goal was to sign up a mere 3 million with double that number losing insurance?

With human nature being what it is, you have to figure that most of the "sign-ups" so far are sick people who could not get medical care insurance anyplace else. How many of them have actually paid their premiums for insurance that is scheduled to start next Wednesday? They may be hedging on the numbers of sign-ups by including people who have actually enrolled in expanded Medicaid that is also being offered through the Obama Care exchanges. This is not an encouraging start, enrolling about one third of one percent of the USA population. With the premium costs and the deductibles being so high and the penalties for not enrolling so low, getting young well people to sign up in the numbers necessary to make the system work fiscally is going to be a very tough sell indeed.

#5, an Obama voter proudly told us in 2008, "Go Obama! I´m getting free health care." She and the millions of other Obazi are surely waiting for the IRS or HHS to send them a plastic ObamaCare card complete with the Obama "O" symbol. No Web sign up necessary since that requires effort and expense. Just a mailing, either to a name or to "Resident". Card would cover everything, with no need for co-pays, deductibles, premiums or even annual renewals.

But that Obama card hasn´t arrived and for those with enough ambition to apply, it certainly isn´t a "freebie". Obazi are put off by the premiums, the enormous deductibles and co-pays. The ER is still far easier and cheaper to use, plus you can ignore all of the late notices.

#7, all of the sign up numbers released by this administration have included those applying for medicaid. In the unusual and rare instances when the MSM has slipped up and printed the breakdown Medicaid applications outnumber insurance applications by something like 4 or 5 to 1.

So, being the most optimistic this number breaks down to 800,000 new medicaid beneficiaries and 300,000 new premium payers. Many of those 300,000 will be receiving subsidies as well. Full rate payers will be a fraction of that 300,000.

When real world economics kicks in many of that 300,000 will not pay the first monthly premium. Many more will pay only the first payment and then feeling the pinch of an additional $500 to $1500 a month just quit paying. By this time next year we will still have 800,000 medicaid beneficiaries demanding taxpayer funded care but only a couple 10´s of thousands actually paying any premium at all.

Then the real time bomb hits, the release of the 2015 Insurance rates, which will be based on outlay vs income from the very small pool of actual rate payers, most of who will be sicker than average, coinciding with 75 to 100 million policy cancellations to small business and employer plans.

Hold on tight, its going to be a very bumpy ride.

#2, you should be clear that Henry Wallace was the presidential candidate for the Progressive Party, 1948. When he says the following (which you quoted), he is being deceptive and intends to be critical of a true free market and a truly free society:

"They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest."

Henry Wallace was a Fascist himself, but lied about it, as Progressives do now.

Big question: how many who signed up were people who had insurance, but were lied to, had their policies cancelled, and had to sign up on the exchanges? These obviously were not people who were the "uninsured". In California alone, it´s obviously hundreds of thousands of people. What a surprise - the Obama crowd takes "credit" for this , and the media lets them.

#10 is right, the 1 million includes those who enrolled in Medicaid. The State examples definitely include Medicaid. Even before Obamacare was created there were an estimated 10 million who were eligible for Medicaid who were signed up in the Emergency Room so that the hospital would get some payment for the service they were required to supply. So the key questions have to be:

If its free, and it keeps you from paying a tax penalty, why have only 800,000 or so out of an estimated 10 million signed up?

Can Obamacare even function if less than a million paying customers buy insurance by the March deadline?

Before the law was passed the Administration stated there were 35+ Million uninsured. What a scam they have initiated. There are more people now uninsured than there were before the bill was passed into law because more people have LOST their health insurance than have gained new insurance, and the majority enrolled in the new law are on Medicaid. How is THAT supposed to help?

Sue Townsend was working on a new Adrian Mole novel when she died, with the working title of Pandora’s Box. The book was due for publication this autumn and Townsend had sent “a few wonderful pages” to her editor, Louise Moore, earlier this year. It is not known if the author had completed a first draft, and it will now be up to her family to decide what, if anything, of the project will be published. The working title raises the wonderful prospect that Townsend planned for her hero to be romantically reunited with Pandora, object of his affection since

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.
