Gunmen open fire with assault rifle

Attackers wielding assault rifles have opened fire on the German ambassador´s residence in Athens. At least four shots hit the metal gate of the high-security residence in the busy northern suburb of Halandri. Sixty spent bullet cases have been collected so far, but no one was hurt in the early morning attack. Anti-German sentiment has grown during Greece´s continuing economic crisis, and many of those struggling with record unemployment and plummeting living standards blame the country´s hard line on fiscal rigour. Germany is the biggest single contributing nation to Greece´s 240-billion euro bailouts which have kept the country afloat since 2010 and saved

The parasitic left only wants you to SHARE.

Fault finding and hostility are often used as substitutes for gratitude by those who are too proud to admit that they are slovenly beggars.

When they get hungry enough they may reconsider their aversion to productive work.

Certainly not until then.

Sound familiar ?

Greeks blame Germany for their economic woes, much like spendthrift Liberals in the U.S. blame Conservatives for theirs. Those whose profligate spending sends their economy into insolvency will blame those who loaned them the money for their being broke. Not sure where the "social justice" is in that.

But before I ponder that any more, I want to ponder the grammar of that headline. It offers more evidence that the English language is rotting on both sides of ´the pond´.

Curious headline. "Gunmen" (as in plural) fired a single rifle?
Sounds like the DM just had to work in the pejorative "assault rifle".

Greece has long had an underground economy. My b-i-l (native Greek) tells me that in order to buy a home there, you don´t go to bank for a mortgage - you go dig up some hidden cash from your back yard, or basement, etc.

So relatively prosperous Germans 500 miles away are labelled as selfish. The remedy is to kill a few. Or many if need be.

And the acts of now dead Germans seventy years ago are the convenient excuse.

If Friday’s Israeli media reports about last week’s Washington visit by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas prove true, President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry could well face their most difficult foreign policy challenge to date--namely, figuring out how to blame Israel for Abbas’ rejection of the three key points that compromise Secretary Kerry’s proposed framework agreement. Israel’s Channel 2 TV reported that Abbas used the occasion of last Monday’s White House meeting with Obama to flatly reject any possibility of accepting Kerry’s framework proposal which was crafted specifically to permit peace talks to continue after the expiration of Abbas´s

Venetians have voted overwhelmingly for their own sovereign state in a ‘referendum’ on independence from Italy. Inspired by Scotland’s separatist ambitions, 89 percent of the residents of the lagoon city and its surrounding area, opted to break away from Italy in an unofficial ballot. The proposed ‘Repubblica Veneta’ would include the five million inhabitants of the Veneto region and could later expand to include parts of Lombardy, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The floating city has only been part of Italy for 150 years. The 1000 year–old democratic Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, was quashed by Napoleon and was subsumed into Italy

Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said.
