‘Duck Dynasty´ debacle
bails out bored media

Fox News, by Howard Kurtz

Silly season reigns during the holidays.Hillary Clinton and Chris Christie tied in a presidential poll? Wow, that might be meaningful if…the primaries weren’t two years away.Jon Gosselin hates his ex Kate and boasts of pulling a gun on a paparazzo? Zzzz.Anderson Cooper talking about his mother and…sex? (Never mind, you can Google it.) Phil Robertson returning to “Duck Dynasty”…whoa! Talk about a Christmas gift for the media. From the start, there has been something about this story that hit all the hot buttons. It’s been a brief plunge back into the culture wars that feels a bit out of place

The Rise Of Elitist Fascism And The Death Of American Democracy
An essay in hypertext by Scott Bidstrup

"The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power... The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism... But always and everywhere they can be identified by their appeal to prejudice and by the desire to play upon the fears and vanities of different groups in order to gain power. They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."

-- U.S. Vice President Henry A. Wallace, quoted in the New York Times, April 9, 1944

So let see, Phil Robertson freely tells which part of the bible mean the most to him and discusses what it says are sins. The media goes insane that he dare feel that way. Then we have Anderson (giggle) Cooper discussing his mother´s oral sex. Did I miss the outrage? Nope. There was none. Tee hee. That´s funny and cute - right?

I was listening to Roger Hedgecock on a Los Angeles station a few days ago and he was saying that a gay couple is going to have their wedding ceremony on a float during the Rose Bowl Parade this New Year´s day. He also commented about how the gay community compares their cause with Martin Luther King´s crusade.

Shortly thereafter, he got a tweet that he read on the air, something to this effect: "I have a dream. In my dream I´m at the Rose Bowl Parade, and the gay wedding ceremony is drowned out by thousands of loud duck calls from people along the parade route."

Rupert Murdoch, the newly single media tycoon, has acquired the triplex penthouse that crowns One Madison, the 60-story sliver of bronze glass designed by CetraRuddy, for $43,010,000. A 6,850-square-foot sponsor unit, it was the most expensive sale of the week, according to city records. The listing price for the condominium, on the southeast side of Madison Square Park at East 22nd Street, had been $50 million. But Mr. Murdoch preferred to buy it as raw space, in so-called white-box form, to orchestrate the finishing touches with his handpicked design team; hence the discount. Raw or not, it has monthly carrying costs

Following is the text of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s statement Saturday on the investigation into the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, as provided by Mr. Najib’s office.Seven days ago Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared. We realize this is an excruciating time for the families of those on board. No words can describe the pain they must be going through. Our thoughts and our prayers are with them. I have been appraised of the ongoing search operation round the clock. At the beginning of the operation, I ordered the search area to be broadened; I instructed the Malaysian authorities to share all relevant

Plane crashes are always political. That principle is on full view in the discordant mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which grew even murkier on Thursday, with reports that the plane may have flown for four hours after contact was lost. That information was attributed to Obama Administration officials, who offered it to explain why American military assets might be deployed to a new body of water. The search has hopped from the Gulf of Thailand, crossing the breadth of the Malaysian peninsula to the Strait of Malacca, and now to the Indian Ocean. Malaysian authorities had denied a similar

When it comes to Obamacare, many Democrats take comfort in polls showing a small majority of voters, or at least a plurality, oppose repealing the Affordable Care Act. To them, that proves the Republicans´ do-away-with-it position is out of sync with voters as this November´s midterm elections approach. The argument shows how far Democrats have retreated from the heady days when they rammed Obamacare through Congress over unanimous GOP opposition. Democrats can´t argue that most people actually like the new law, and indeed many Democratic candidates have adopted a new mantra that it needs to be "fixed." But at least voters

Boeing offers a satellite service that can receive a stream of data during flight on how the aircraft is functioning. Last week, the U.S. Tenth Circuit decided a case that should reverberate on Capitol Hill. In Kerr v. The three-judge panel — consisting of Carter and Clinton appointees — ruled in favor of the legislators’ standing. This decision should embolden members of Congress who correctly believe that President Obama has encroached upon Congress’ constitutional authority. Indeed, Congress should do no less in defending its authority than the five Colorado state legislators.
