Times Ignores Evidence of
Al Qaeda Link to Benghazi

Weekly Standard, by Stephen F. Hayes

Original Article

Let’s start by giving David Kirkpatrick credit. Kirkpatrick, the Cairo bureau chief of the New York Times and author of this weekend’s much-discussed piece on Benghazi, provides many new on-the-ground, minute-by-minute details of the attacks and the weeks and months leading up to them. Some of the reporting is incredible. Kirkpatrick describes the vase in the living room of the home belonging to the mother of Abu Khattala, a main suspect in those attacks. He reports on how the fighting in the consulate paused when Abu Khattala entered the compound, a revealing fact. Citing security camera video footage, the author

The point of the article was NOT to get the truth out. It was to have something on record that the Clintons and their ilk can refer to whenever Benghazi is brought up during her campaign.

Barack Obama´s first visit to

As Belgium´s capital and host to the EU and Nato, Brussels is used to deploying heavy security when big names pop by. But US President Barack Obama´s visit on Tuesday will strain the city like never before with €10m (£8.4m) of Belgian money being spent to cover his 24 hours in the country. The president will arrive on Tuesday night with a 900-strong entourage, including 45 vehicles and three cargo planes. Advance security teams orchestrating every last detail have combed Brussels already, checking the sewers and the major hospitals, while American military helicopters were last week given the green light

It’s hard to recall a news photograph that has tickled our fancy as much as that which appeared on the front page of the New York Times today showing President Obama standing in front of what surely must be one of the greatest paintings ever to be put upon canvas, Rembrandt’s “The Shooting Company of Frans Banning Cocq,” better known as “The Night Watch.” Ordinarily this wouldn’t have been all that remarkable, but stick with us here. It happens that we had but recently watched a video of a flash mob acting out “The Night Watch” in the setting of

In respect of the Supreme Court’s hearing this week in Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius we have been nursing the idea of a compromise. If it were up to us, we’d rule for Hobby Lobby and the Green Family and the Hahns and their kith, whose company, Conestoga Wood Specialties, is also before the court seeking protection from the birth control mandate of Obamacare. By our lights, they, and all similarly situated religious persons, deserve accommodation. Otherwise, who’s next? We’re an accommodating sort, however, and we’ve been wrestling with a compromise to salve the New York Times, which is in a

Despite his highly influential religious office, he makes time to sit with the people, comfort the sick, and help the poor. He often forgoes traditional fancy threads and maintains a quiet, humble disposition. He is, above all things, a pastoral man. If you think we´re talking about Pope Francis, think again. His support transcends ideology. Both conservatives and liberals seem to really love him. If you were to see Cardinal Seán Patrick O´Malley walking around in his characteristic brown smock, with a small ego but a big laugh, you might not even realize that he is the single most important

From humble beginnings in the 1970s in their Oklahoma City garage, David and Barbara Green launched what is now the sprawling nationwide commercial enterprise, Hobby Lobby. Their company – now owned entirely by five members of the Green family – is now at the epicenter of an important legal battle over the breathtaking reach of the Affordable Care Act. At issue is whether – due to the Greens´ deeply held religious objections – the Hobby Lobby owners have an enforceable freedom-of-conscience right not to provide several contraceptive methods (four out of the 20 ACA-required methods) to the crafts company´s employees.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s office found millions in cash and jewelry in offices and apartments connected to ex-Energy Minister Eduard Stavytsky and ex-Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk. The new government in Kyiv is cracking down on officials in ex-President Viktor Yanukovych’s administration. After he was ousted, the full corruption of his administration was exposed. Over 32 searches took place at all the firms and apartments connected to Stavytsky. "When a search was being conducted in an apartment formerly owned by Stavytsky and, from March 15, by a legal entity, two safes and files of documents were discovered. A woman was caught

The most powerful politician in my former home State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is not the Governor. It’s the Speaker of the House. On the day after state and federal investigators raided his State House office and home, House Speaker Gordon D. Fox has announced his intention to resign as speaker. So in the Post’s view, it is acceptable to publish articles that are both literally false (Koch is the largest tar sands leaseholder) and massively misleading (the Keystone Pipeline is all about Koch Industries), if by doing so the paper can “stir and inflame public debate in this election year?” I can’t top Jonah Goldberg’s comment on that howler: By this logic any unfair attack posing as reporting is worthwhile when people try to correct the record. Why not just have at it and accuse the Kochs of killing JFK or hiding the Malaysian airplane? The resulting criticism would once

The famous lagoon city of Venice has voted to break away from the rest of Italy. Eighty nine per cent of Venetians backed the move to create their own sovereign state in a referendum on independence. They want to create the "Repubblica Veneta", which would not only include the city of Venice but surrounding areas. Venice, which attracts tens of thousands of US tourists each year, has been part of Italy for 150 years but before that was a powerful city state, naval and commercial power. The city lost its independence after being captured by Napoleon in the late eighteenth

According to the Patriot-News, Wagner captured 48 percent of the vote in York County while Democrat Linda Small got 26

A new poll shows Latinos -- a fast-growing and key demographic in American elections -- aren´t as fond of Obamacare as they once were. The Pew Research Center poll showed Hispanics are split on whether they approve of President Obama´s health-care law, with 47 percent approving and 47 percent disapproving. The numbers are notable because Latinos have generally been among the health-care law´s chief supporters. Other polls have shown they supported the law by a 2-to-1 margin, and a September 2013 poll, before the law´s implementation, showed 61 percent of Hispanics approved of it. Another key minority group that tilts

"But human-caused climate risks abrupt, unpredictable and potentially irreversible changes." In other words, the most distinguished scientists from the country with the world´s pre-eminent educational institutions were trying to shake humanity out of its complacency. WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney said Sunday that President Barack Obama is naive when it comes to Russia, has shown "faulty judgment" about Moscow´s intentions and could have done more to try to deter its annexation of Crimea. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s moves and should have been working earlier with allies to make clear the penalties that Russia would face if it moved into Ukraine. Romney did acknowledge that such steps may not have been enough though to hold back Russia President Vladimir Putin. "Had we communicated those things, there´s always

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

Most Supreme Court watchers are fixated these days on Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby—the important challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate scheduled for argument Tuesday. And why wouldn’t they be? With its potent mix of religion, sex, Obamacare, and prayerful corporations, it’s the blockbuster case of the term. It is also a crucial test of Chief Justice John Roberts’s leadership on the Supreme Court. Just two years ago, Roberts cast the deciding vote to largely uphold the Affordable Care Act. While the country remains divided over whether he acted like a traitor or a statesman, all would have to agree

But a new study of 212 black college students made available to Secrets found little open-mindedness: Blacks don´t like it when other blacks associate with whites, to the point of refusing help to an African-American experiencing “a run of bad luck” -- just because they have white friends. As President Obama prepares to visit Saudi Arabia on Friday, many in the Middle East are wondering why he is making a trip with no discernible purpose. No one is quite sure what Obama is supposed to do while in Riyadh. According to the White House, in addition to a one-on-one talk with 90-year-old Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, Obama hopes to attend a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council. But there may be no summit — since the GCC is now badly split. The council’s members are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar. One bloc — the
