Augusta man upset with Dunkin’
Donuts decision gets more toilets

Morning Sentinel [Waterville, ME], by Michael Shepherd

Agusta - The toilets behind David Labbe’s home on the city’s east side were snow-filled last week, icicles hanging from their tanks. Mad over Augusta officials’ decision to reject a zoning change that would have enabled a Dunkin’ Donuts developer to buy his 1 Davenport St. property, Labbe, a plumber, got national headlines earlier this year by putting commodes behind his home to protest his neighbors’ opposition to the plan. The Kennebec Journal broke his story in October: Then, Labbe had a sign alongside five toilets saying he wanted between 60 and 70 more. In an interview then, he told a reporter he thought he could put 100 toilets on

Odd is an understatement. I´m surprised his neighbors aren´t taking advantage of the free personal relief systems lining his property.

I don´t know what Augusta´s zoning laws regarding outhouses are but I would suggest the man build a few and actually use them. Won´t matter much in winter but come hot weather neighbors will pray for the Dunkin Donuts.

I live in the neighborhood and these are some of the facts. It´s a tight-knit neighborhood for this time and age.
Dozens of us attended and spoke up at the planning board and city council meetings.
This is just sour grapes, and oh...if Mr. Labbe had spent money on siding instead of that big tall fence one of his problems would be solved. To wreck the integrity of a neighborhood by rezoning for the benefit of one makes no sense. Wish someone would pay me three times our property worth, but alas Santa has come and gone. Grow up.

This reminds me of the man who painted his house to be a USA flag since the community would not let him fly a USA flag.
Consider the possibilities: flower pots and or fountains using the toilets, fence posts, art contest, etc. (How can the neighbors complain when the toilets have another purpose?)

President Obama will correct a historical act of discrimination next month when he awards the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest commendation for combat valor, to 19 Hispanic, Jewish and African-American veterans overlooked previously because of their racial or ethnic backgrounds. The unusual presentation will culminate a 12-year Pentagon review ordered by Congress into past discrimination in the ranks, and will hold a particular poignancy hosted by the nation’s first African-American president. Although the review predates Obama’s tenure, he has made addressing discrimination in the military ranks — including ending the ban on gay and lesbian service members — a

Single parents applying online for MaineCare coverage are being asked personal questions – such as whether their child was conceived in Maine and why the absent parent no longer lives in the home – as part of the application. From a scroll-down menu of possible reasons that the other parent left home, the Maine- Care applicant can choose “unwed parenthood, divorce, abandonment, death, separation, incarceration” and others. LOWELL, Mass. — Police in Lowell say a man who demanded money for shoveling the driveway of an elderly couple who hadn’t asked him to do so was chased away when the 79-year-old woman answered her door holding a gun. Police say the man knocked on the door of the woman and her 81-year-old husband at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and forcefully asked for payment for shoveling. They told him to leave, so he banged on the door harder. Police tell The Sun that the woman came to the door again, this time holding a gun at her side.

Such vehicle-to-vehicle communication could transform traffic safety. The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception.
