Over a quarter of the Argentine population live in poverty conditions, with no formal job, poor quality education, dreadful housing and insufficient healthcare, according to the latest paper from the Buenos Aires Catholic University Social Debt Observatory. The paper, “Structural heterogeneous factors and standing social inequalities” also reveals that from 2004 to 2010 the social gap between life conditions for the middle class and the most vulnerable has increased considerably. The Social Debt Observatory considered one of the most prestigious and reliable in Argentina says that half of Argentine workers have a precarious job or ´indigence jobs´ (i.e. collecting cardboard

Comments:
Memo to Pope Francis: This is what your idea of "state capitalist" (fascist/Peronist) economic ideas in power bring. A horrific stat, given Argentina´s talented, educated, first-world-type population.

As socialism grows,so does poverty but people can´t connect the dots.Obama sees the Pope´s approval numbers sky high and decides to hump the poverty bus also.

Caring about people living in poverty is one thing but exploiting it for popularity is another.Redistribution can´t fix poverty,,it only enables it and the country´s bosses get rich off it.

When they threw the last Pope out and put this one in,I figured it just be a matter of time before we found out why.Ask the average person what they think of the Pope and the first thing they´ll say is he cares about the poor. This is a big home run for the left, trumping the church´s positions on gays, divorce, abortion etc. When you give the government an excuse to tax people´s asses off,the left is clearly in your pocket.

I was brought up to believe the pope is infallible and spoke directly from God,more or less. I don´t believe that anymore,I´m sad to say.

The problem is of course, identifying a genuine poor person from a professional poor person. You have people with a full slate of benefits being the first ones in line when the food bank opens.I have no use for those kinds of people.

There´s well known sayings about God only helps those who help themselves and teach a person to fish. How many starving people live within a few miles of great farm land?

The pope is only infallible when he speaks on an issue of faith and morals in concert with the bishops of the world. That is quite a rare thing. When the pope gives an opinion on economics (like Francis did) he is not speaking infallibly.

Argentina´s Luck Is Finally Running Out

Argentina’s luck is finally starting to run out. It devalued its currency by 15 percent last week, marking the beginning of a possible economic crisis of the kind Argentina has become known for. Argentina’s problem is that it has followed the logic of populism for more than a decade and President Cristina Kirchner is showing no interest in changing course. In the 1990s Argentina combined far-reaching but sometimes flawed market-reforms with irresponsible fiscal policies, culminating in its 2002 default on $81 billion in debt—the largest sovereign default in history. The country delinked its currency from the dollar, experienced a severe economic

Education: What does it take to turn an ordinary school official into a red-star commissar remorselessly yanking lunches from hungry kids and tossing them in the trash? Try an anti-school choice union and a big bureaucracy. It actually happened at Uintah Elementary School in the Salt Lake City school district. The story from the embattled school administrators is that a "child nutrition manager" sought to correct the arrears of parents´ payments to their subsidized lunch program ($2.50 a day) and, after giving a day´s notice, had food service workers yank the trays of served food right out of the children´s little

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Mayor Bill de Blasio may have harshly criticized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his administration’s recent “bridgegate” scandal, but for one night, at least, it was all water under the bridge. The pair kicked off this weekend’s Super Bowl festivities with a joint appearance in Jersey City last night. And if Mr. de Blasio had any lingering harsh feelings about the alleged traffic shutdown over the George Washington Bridge, he certainly didn’t show it. Instead, the bipartisan pair looked like old friends as they appeared on stage together to count down to a fireworks display at the

CHILPANCINGO, Mexico – Hundreds of armed men belonging to community self-defense groups occupied eight small towns near Chilpancingo, capital of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, and detained a dozen suspected extortionists, a spokesperson for the vigilantes said. The action was taken due to the “federal government’s poor response” in ensuring the security of the state’s inhabitants, Gonzalo Torres, a coordinator of the Citizen Safety and Justice System, or SSyJC, organization, said Friday. The vigilantes said they seized control of the towns, all part of the municipality of Chilpancingo, because their residents are the victims of criminal gangs that extort and kidnap

Socialism: The huge currency devaluations that hit Venezuela and Argentina last week could be seen coming a mile away. This is a warning to the U.S. about big-government spending policies financed by printing money. The markets have given a resounding vote of no confidence to many emerging-market currencies, triggering sell-offs as far flung as Turkey, Russia and South Africa. But nowhere were the losses as catastrophic as those in two socialist Latin American countries that have thumbed their noses at fiscal discipline, ruthlessly used printed cash to expand their states and treated their citizens as cash cows, gleefully chasing out thousands of

Argentina is considering the purchase from Israel of 18 multipurpose combat aircraft Kfir Block 60 after negotiations with Spain for 16 Mirage F1 fighter bombers fell through, according to a report from Buenos Aires daily Clarin. Apparently Israel´s offer has been on the Defense minister Agustin Rossi´s desk since some time but only resurfaced sometime back in September following on the frustrated deal with Spain. Clarin also mentions that news of the negotiations between the Argentine ministry of defense and Israel´s Aero-spatial Industry, IAI, which manufactures the Kfir Block 60, caused ´concern´ in the British government since it is

CARACAS, Venezuela — President Nicolas Maduro has a new villain as he campaigns to bring down Venezuela’s spiraling crime: TV soap operas. He accuses them of spreading “anti-values” to young people by glamorizing violence, guns and drugs. The criticism follows attacks last year by Maduro on violent video games and the Hollywood movie “Spider-Man.” On Monday night, his vice president, Jorge Arreaza, met with broadcast and pay TV operators to review the prime-time lineup, warning that they could be in violation of a 2004 law mandating “socially responsible” programming. The two sides will meet in a week with the aim of drafting an agreement

Moody´s rating agency has lowered the outlook for health insurers from stable to negative, blaming ObamaCare. Few Americans will shed tears for insurance companies. But the Moody´s announcement is a warning sign to taxpayers. They´ll be getting clobbered. Section 1342 of the Affordable Care Act forces taxpayers to make insurers whole for most of the losses incurred selling ObamaCare exchange plans through 2016. The bailout is designed to conceal the failure of the president´s signature health law until he is out of office. No one in the Obama administration talked up the advantages of bailing out insurers.
