Where the 1.3 million people
losing unemployment aid this week live

Washington Post, by Niraj Chokshi

A projected 1.3 million people will lose emergency unemployment benefits when they expire Saturday. Congress offered the extended benefits as unemployment ballooned during the Great Recession and has put off their expiration several times since. But when the two parties struck a budget deal this month, another postponement was notably missing. When the aid expires Saturday, the unemployed will only be able to collect a maximum 26 weeks of benefits in most parts of the U.S., down from roughly twice as much in many states. The recession may technically be over, but for many the recovery has yet to begin. The plight

A huge number of those unemployed live in Eastern Kentucky, West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio...the coal belt. These dear folks worked in the coal mines closed by Obama´s EPA as predicted by Himself during the 2007/08 presidential campaign. That is one campaign promise he kept!

What´s Christie going to do now? NJ is going to get very interesting.

Chances are employment will go up now that the free ride is over but people won´t be happy that they have to go back to work.

"Help Wanted " sign can be seen everywhere!

There is that group who would rather live off the labor of someone else and sit on their haunches at home and will not take a job no matter what!!!

Put these welfare kids to work by cutting off so called "unemployment payments".

Aren´t we glad that the enviroweenies chased our manufacturing jobs offshore? Also, that the coal industry is being decimated? How about our textile industry that our government allowed to be undercut by offshore sweatshops? I could go on, but the point is that we are our own worst enemy...

The other day Chuck Schumer said the first
priority for the administration in 2014 must be job growth. Where the hell has he been? That should have been the first priority from day one but everything these clowns do works against growing the economy and jobs.

Correct me if I am wrong but those drawing unemployment must say they looked for work. Thus the labor force participation number is artifically boosted.

We know many did not seek work every week but did draw unemployment. That makes some sense for even the motivated person because work simply may not have been available.

If that reasoning is correct the official unemployment rate may fall in January when the extensions end even though not one person finds work.

Welfare and disability have become perpetual entitlements, and that is what the Dems want for unemployment as well. In the Northcross system, the initial check would be generous, but would decline by 10% each month as an incentive to get back on the job.

If they checked the addresses where multiple checks are mailed to, they could save a bunch. Bet inmates of prisons in Il. & Nv. are making good $$ off unemployment benefits.
NJ probably has a nest of scammers having multiple checks sent to a single address.

Code Pinko & SEIU trained the OWS & other street vermin professional protestors to claim disability when their unemployment runs out.

This is to keep the from seeking work. If you are actively looking you are unemployed in the telephone poll. This will hurt for the 2014 election, hence the urgency.

My grandfather used to talk about men he knew who went on the dole during the depression. He even offered jobs to them that they would not take. Even then, the dole was more attractive than work to some.

It always will be so.

If I recall correctly, as far back as the 70s unemployment was limited - and it was funded by an employer tax. It was not the perpetual dole funded by taxpayers.

There were no food stamps, but there were government programs that distributed actual food to the poor.

Now its food stamps that are too often used for other purposes.

We have devolved as a society in my lifetime.

It is true, even in south Texas where the oil boom is , there are those who prefer to sit around rather than work. In Victoria, TX and surrounding small towns, you are pretty much unemployed by choice. Amazingly, my brothers know lifelong residents who do make that choice.

He´s really for more welfare dependency and the total destruction of the middle class and turning it inside out to the welfare class. That´s how he keeps his perfumed Senate seat.

I was standing in a cashier line at Target just before Christmas and discussing with the woman next to me why more registers hadn´t been opened. She said she works at Costco and the problem is that enough cashiers aren´t available, although the jobs are open. Apparently, the money isn´t sufficient to entice folks away from the unemployment checks.

These programs should all have a built-in incentive to find a job. When a person who is sitting home receives more free income and has more in the way of luxuries, the lazy will always opt out of working. I don´t think most of us have a problem with subsistence support but when a taxpayer-supported family has a new car, big screen TV, multiple cellphones, along with free memberships and meals at places like the YMCA, it´s an easy choice for the lazy.

But I´ve always said that without parasite support at this level, the democrat party would not exist. Half of our population is worthless and the dems have no problem capitalizing on that fact.

My heart goes out to those who have worked in coal mines for years. Those workers will probably have a more difficult time finding work than city dwellers.

Years ago I quit my public-school teaching job in the middle of the school year, because I couldn´t take the lack of discipline and the socialist teachers in the school system where I taught. To make sure there wouldn´t be any repercussions, I consulted a lawyer before resigning at the end of the first semester. I did not collect unemployment - it was against my principles.

To get my feet wet in working after quitting my teaching job, I did two things1). I contacted a headhunter and (2). I worked for a temporary help agency. That was a good experience, because I sometimes had a long-term assignment; thus, I learned more about how companies function in the real world. The teaching world, is not the "real" world!

Some 1.3 million people are expected to lose benefits when they expire Saturday, with more to come depending on whether or not Congress extends the emergency unemployment insurance.

...and 90 MILLION people have lost their jobs since Obama got elected the first time. And climbing. Those jobs no longer exist.

I have great sympathy for those who were forced off their private-sector jobs because their employers couldn´t afford to keep them under Obama´s new "economy", which was a deliberate and successful attempt to destroy private sector jobs and small businesses so that people would become desperate, flock to government relief and stay there to vote Democrat in perpetuity.

How insidious and hideous a plan could have been devised by these 60´s radicals? They claim to be for power to the people but it´s the people who have lost power and the radicals who have gained it.

Thanks, Democrats. You have presided over the decline of American prosperity, national security, liberty, the free market and the best health care system in the world. We won´t forget.

There are some erroneous numbers that don´t fit the templet here.
Numbers are being faked and we will never know the facts. Smoke and mirrors are all we get.
There should not be any ´help wanted´ and ´now hiring´ signs anywhere. I think dead beats make up much of the unemployment ´aid´.
My wife has been hiring people to work in hospitals non stop for seven years. The problem, many who apply can´t pass a background check or a drug test. That´s what you get in the hiring pool now days.
I don´t believe the recession, in recovery BS. Obama´s media is kept from using the word depression. There has not been any recession under Obama we have slipped into a depression. All we get are fake numbers for the quarters to protect the failure in the White House.

While many parts of the U.S. economy struggle to recover from the Great Recession of 2008-09, one domestic industry is experiencing a technology-driven expansion in which American innovations have led to countless new company startups, a surge in hiring and some of the highest-paying entry-level jobs for graduating college seniors. The former Massachusetts senator will formally announce his bid for the seat held by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen at the Portsmouth Harborside Hotel on Thursday night. “I remember our house on Islington Street, strolling through Strawbery Banke with my grandfather, and catching a show at Prescott Park. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sure talks a lot about “outside” money. She raises campaign funds by claiming to protect the state from outside “special interests” who might help Scott Brown. Those poor donors probably have no idea how much money Shaheen raises from out-of-state special interests. For her career, Shaheen’s top 10 metropolitan areas for campaign donations are, in order: Boston; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; Lowell, Mass; San Francisco; Manchester; Chicago; Portsmouth; Philadelphia.

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

A married freshman Republican congressman who campaigned on his Christian, conservative values apologized Monday after surveillance video surfaced purportedly showing him in a lengthy liplock with a staffer. In the Dec. 23 footage, obtained by a local newspaper, Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La. - who ahead of his election last fall ran multiple campaign ads trumpeting his faith and family - is seen kissing and embracing a woman for about 20 seconds at his Monroe, La., district office. The Ouachita Citizen reports the woman is the congressman´s 33-year-old part-time scheduler, who is also married.

Call it the million-worker mystery. A large chunk of American adults are no longer in the labor force. That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn´t find a job. (snip) Shierholz estimates that there are currently more than 5 million missing workers who are not included in the unemployment rate because they are neither working nor looking for work, but who might be if the job market

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee says investigators have uncovered evidence that a former Internal Revenue Service official may have committed crimes as part of the agency´s tea party controversy. Rep. Dave Camp set a committee vote for Wednesday on whether to refer Lois Lerner, who used to head the agency´s tax-exempt division, to the Justice Department "for possible criminal prosecution." Camp, R-Mich., did not specify which laws Lerner may have broken. Lerner´s lawyer, William W. Taylor III, has said she broke no laws. On Monday, Taylor emailed this response to Camp´s announcement: "One word: Ridiculous." Camp´s committee has been investigating

The Democratic National Committee is furious by a conservative website’s ad campaign that depicts Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi clad in a bikini in a provocative pose with her tongue sticking out. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, called on Republicans to press Breitbart News to remove the artwork — one of several suggestive images on the website promoting the new California site. The image of Pelosi, beneath one of California Gov. Jerry Brown’s face photo-shopped onto a flexing body builder, includes the sub-head: “Because you can’t make this s— up.” “To say the least,

As the House prepares for several key votes on former Internal Revenue Service employee Lois G. Lerner and potential legal action, analysts say she and her attorney have mishandled their case by picking and choosing when they want to talk, and to whom they are willing to talk. Ms. Lerner faces a vote in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday that could begin the process of accusing her of contempt of Congress. The Ways and Means Committee announced that it will hold a vote Wednesday on whether to officially accuse Ms. Lerner of breaking the law by

Hours after the Drudge Report suggested on Sunday that "Republicans expand[ed] Obamacare" in the headline for the site´s lead story, an "alert" from the office of House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, countered that they had actually "chip[ped] away another piece" of the law. The recent change "eliminated a cap on deductibles for small group policies offered inside the law´s health care exchanges as well as outside," the Associated Press explained. "Successfully repealing this Obamacare provision is just one part of Republicans´ larger effort to repeal the full law and replace it with better solutions focused on lowering health care costs for families
