A Man and His Gun
American Spectator, by Reid Smith

The inventor of the most successful killing machine in human history is dead. According to the AP, Mikhail Kalashnikov succumbed to unspecified health complications at the age of 94. He died in Izhevsk, the capital city of the Udmurtia Republic where he lived out his final, modest years. The AK-47 (literally, “Avtomat Kalashnikova” fixed to its first production year) is the world’s most popular assault rifle. It’s the first choice of “freedom fighters,” narco-gangs, and pirates. Those who wield it stifle development. They destabilize communities. They topple tyrants and fight foreign proxies. Of course, the AK-47 is much more than

Comments:
If I had a choice of 2 weapons to bury in my backyard to defend my family if needed one would be Mikhail Kalashnikov´s AK-47 and the other a FN MAG M-240.

Both have time test proven reliability in any harsh conditions. Both are easy to maintain and easy to use.

I have used both weapons and the only problem I have had or seen with either of them is I had to grab the charging handle of the M-240 that didn´t want to stop firing.
Rather that then it jamming.

R.I.P. Mr.Kalashnikov. You made the perfect tool to preform the job it was

If every dirt poor militiaman in every cesspool country in the world has one, shouldn´t you? Put off the new bigger flat screen TV for a year and get an AK and a tin of 7.62 instead.
In 20 or 50 years the AK and ammo will still be valuable items, the TV will be long since trashed.

"Killing Machine?"

Why not call it the best crime preventing machine. Or the best despot knocking machine. Or the most effective peace keeping machine.

One of the coolest pictures I ever saw was of Eugene Stoner holding an AK, standing next to Kalashnikov holding an M-16. It was taken in the early 90´s, if I remember right.
No idea how he will be judged, but I dont want to be there.

I´ve shot one, and it´s a piece of junk. Inaccurate as hell. Only good for combat in built-up areas.

I credit the Rooskies cleverness in that the AK could fire the NATO 7.62mm rounds, but our weapons couldn´t fire their rounds. Quite meaningful on the battlefield.

I seem to recall that the AK-47 was based on a German designed machine gun, but I guess he gets the credit for loosening it up so it wouldn´t ever jam.

I respectfully disagree with anyone who thinks they are junk and/or inaccurate - I have fired several that were the real McCoy, made at the Kalashnikov factory, under his supervision and they were accurate as hell.

Nevada officials blast feds over

Fox News, by Robert Gearty    Original Article

Two of Nevada’s top elected leaders are riding to the rescue of a rancher whose decades-long range war with the federal government has reached a boiling point in recent days. The federal Bureau of Land Management has surrounded the Clark County ranch of Cliven Bundy with armed officers, helicopters and four-wheel drive vehicles. Last week, they began seizing cattle found grazing on adjacent federal lands in violation of a law meant to protect an endangered desert tortoise. “No cow justifies the atmosphere of intimidation which currently exists nor the limitation of constitutional rights that are sacred to all Nevadans.”

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The continuing battle between the establishment and antiestablishment forces within the Grand Old Party is getting bitter. Scott Reed, a chief political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, quips that the antiestablishment Club for Growth has morphed into the “Club for Dopes.” Club for Growth spokesman Barney Keller charges that the head of a Washington-based pro-incumbent political group, the Main Street Republican Partnership, “may have eaten a lot paint chips as a kid.” Maybe that is what happens in any family feud. But it is the first time in recent years that the Republican intraparty battles have turned publicly

The quickest way for a commie a**hole to gain weepy fans is to die. This is something I’m willing to accept, as long as it happens regularly. But it’s no surprise that when someone truly awful dies, the cool break out in reverence. Which is what happened when Hugo Chávez croaked. On that day in March 2013, we saw a parade of misty-eyed celebrities and solemn left-wing hacks paying tribute to a dead guy. Out of the woodwork came a parade of Hugoslavians, tyrant-lovers who could overlook the heathen’s badness for the sake of coolness. See, someone can be truly evil.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Congress should impeach Attorney General Eric Holder if he does not indict those like Lerner for their roles in the IRS´s targeting of conservative groups. In a Thursday appearance on Sean Hannity´s radio program, Cruz said Holder should be impeached for "defying Congress and the rule of law." He said Holder´s actions were not in the spirit of the Department of Justice, which Cruz said has "a bipartisan tradition of resisting partisan pressure and upholding the rule of law." That kind of Republican party, he writes “could not only unify and excite conservatives, but appeal to hardworking families in the purple and blue communities that President [Barack] Obama’s special-interest favoritism is leaving behind.” Mr. Lee is scheduled to continue the rollout with television appearances, town halls, a speech at the Heritage Foundation on April 30, and several pieces of legislation. In the four years since the Supreme Court struck down fundraising regulations that effectively gave the Democratic and Republican parties a monopoly on large-scale political activity, a collection of Tea Party-affiliated organizations has arisen in Washington that competes with the GOP for campaign contributors, money and influence -- and over what legislation to push and which candidates to nominate. The groups, including the Club for Growth, FreedomWorks and the Senate Conservatives Fund, have moved aggressively to kill legislation they oppose and oust incumbent Republicans they deem insufficiently conservative. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
