Who Made Krugman the

From the mid-1980s until 2003 Mikhail Khodorkovsky used his connections first developed as a rising young communist in the Soviet Komsomol youth movement to amass a private fortune created through banking and oil in Russia. He used his experience and connections in import-export at the top of the communist hierarchy to create one of Russia’s first private banks in the post Soviet era. He then parlayed the bank’s assets into the purchase of the state owned oil producer Yukos for $300 million. Some have said that the low price for the oil producer was arranged by Vladimir Putin, who was

Another Obamacare Horror Story
Which Won´t Get Further Than Local News
Newsbusters, by Tom Blumer    Original Article

I suspect that more than a few readers have noticed, with likely little surprise, that there hasn´t been a lot of national establishment press attention paid to how Obamacare has been working out in the real world since it officially went into effect on January 1. Non-existent HealthCare.gov security? Who cares? Patients turned away from emergency rooms voluntarily (because they don´t want to risk huge uncovered costs they will have to pay out-of-pocket) or from medical providers involuntarily (because they don´t know whether a particular patient is or isn´t covered)? You might find coverage of that in the British wing

Conservative commentator S.E. After the official MSNBC Twitter account sent out a now-deleted tweet claiming that “right-wing with hate” a new Cheerios commercial featuring a bi-racial couple, Cupp said she’s “deeply disappointed” with the network. Cupp said this incident has proven that liberals are “absolutely fixated” on bi-racial marriage to the point where it’s “all they can see, even when they watch an adorable Cheerios commercial.” It was apparently

A climate change scientist’s defamation suit against National Review writer and frequent Rush Limbaugh fill-in Mark Steyn will proceed, a judge decided earlier this week, ruling against the magazine’s attempt to dismiss the case. The case stems from Mr. Steyn’s written reference to Michael Mann’s climate change data as fraudulent, according to news website Raw Story. Of especial ire to Mr. Mann was that Mr. Steyn quoted Competitive Enterprise Institution analyst Rand Simberg, who compared Mr. Mann to convicted Penn State child molester Jerry Sandusky. Mr. Simberg called Mr. Mann “the Jerry Sandusky of climate science, except that instead of molesting

Super Bowl XLVIII´s hometown has a rude guest. The sports world is converging on East Rutherford (pop. 8,978) for Sunday´s game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, and all the town wanted to do was have a little block party for locals not rich or lucky enough to have tickets. The NFL can´t stop the party, but they did bar East Rutherford from using the phrase "Super Bowl" in any description of the humble event, set to take place Sunday afternoon in the shadow of the town´s most famous building, MetLife Stadium. TRENTON — Attorney Randy Mastro is being paid $650 per hour to help Gov. Chris Christie’s administration respond to the George Washington Bridge scandal, according to a letter of retention released by the governor’s office Thursday night. Mastro, from the New York firm of Gibson Dunn, noted in the agreement that the price is more than a 40 percent discount off his normal rate. But the price is nearly twice what is being paid to the attorney advising an investigative legislative panel. Former federal prosecutor Reid Schar is charging $350 per hour. Retiring Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, who was replaced by Janet Yellen as of today, is leaving the Federal Reserve with an unprecedented $4,102,138,000,000 in total assets on its balance sheet, up 391 percent from the $834,663,000,000 in total assets the Fed showed on its balance sheet when Bernanke took over as chairman in February 2006. Much of the increase in the Fed’s assets has come in the form of U.S. Treasury securities and Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae mortgage-backed securities that the Fed purchased over the last five years in its attempts to stimulate the economy. The Senate´s Democrat Majority Leader, Nevada´s Harry Reid, once again attacked conservative financiers David and Charles Koch, this time claiming they are trying to "buy the country." Reid´s hyperbolic attack came during a discussion of the Obama administration´s use of the IRS to harass conservative-leaning activist groups, Politico reports. The Majority Leader harkened back to the Supreme Court´s Citizens United decision that leveled the playing field for groups to spend money on political causes. Hundreds of career Justice Department lawyers have broken into open revolt against Attorney General Holder over his support of legislation that would drastically cut back on mandatory minimum sentences for drug pushers. The legislation Holder supports, known as the Durbin-Lee bill, would overturn the current mandatory minimum sentences not only for marijuana violations but for all drug offenses, including major and repeat trafficking in heroin, meth, PCP and other extremely dangerous, and often lethal, drugs. This was too much for hundreds of federal prosecutors. Today, Chuck Grassley, the Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, read aloud from a letter the

LONDON -- Prince Charles has called people who deny human-made climate change a "headless chicken brigade" who are ignoring overwhelming scientific evidence. The heir to the British throne, a dedicated environmentalist, accused "powerful groups of deniers" of mounting "a barrage of sheer intimidation" against opponents. He made the comments at a Buckingham Palace awards ceremony on Thursday. Charles said it was "baffling ... that in our modern world we have such blind trust in science and technology that we all accept what science tells us about everything - until, that is, it comes to climate science." Remember how liberals pounced on Chick-Fil-A’s owner/president for saying more or less what Barack Obama said in his 2008 campaign for president? That marriage was between a man and a woman? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel declared “Chick-Fil-A’s values are not Chicago values.” Boston Mayor Thomas Menino vowed to block the chain from coming to Beantown. Gotham’s then-City Council speaker, Christine Quinn, demanded Chick-Fil-A’s one New York store be sent packing. Well, this week Chick-Fil-A values were back in the news. Moody´s rating agency has lowered the outlook for health insurers from stable to negative, blaming ObamaCare. Few Americans will shed tears for insurance companies. But the Moody´s announcement is a warning sign to taxpayers. They´ll be getting clobbered. Section 1342 of the Affordable Care Act forces taxpayers to make insurers whole for most of the losses incurred selling ObamaCare exchange plans through 2016. The bailout is designed to conceal the failure of the president´s signature health law until he is out of office. No one in the Obama administration talked up the advantages of bailing out insurers. Conservative groups are mounting a major resistance effort against the Internal Revenue Service’s post-tea party targeting scandal rules, which are designed to clamp down on outside groups’ ability to organize as nonprofits and still play a role in political conversations. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell fired a major shot Thursday, taking to the chamber floor to say the rules amount to a declaration of war on free speech and vowing the GOP will try to block them. “Every American needs to know about this abuse of power,” said Mr. McConnell, Kentucky Republican. “Let me be clear: What the administration is

As predicted, the Obama administration and many in the Democratic Party are trying to peddle the story that ObamaCare is now working because the healthcare.gov website is functioning better. But despite the questionable claims of easier access and more people enrolling in the ObamaCare exchanges, the ugly truth is the horror stories are piling up and, sooner or later, ObamaCare’s cheerleaders will have to confront the overwhelming evidence indicting them for repeatedly lying to the American people. As expected, President Obama used his State of the Union speech Tuesday to extol the virtues of ObamaCare, and also as expected, retold the story
