Sen. James Inhofe opened up on Sunday about the loss of his son, Perry, who died in a plane crash Nov. 10 outside Tulsa just shy of his 52nd birthday. Mr. Inhofe, a 79-year-old Oklahoma Republican, said his son knew his plane was going down and avoided any areas with homes before crashing in a wooded area. Perry Inhofe was an orthopedic surgeon, and grew up sharing a love of flying with his senator father and the rest of the family. In an interview with NBC’s David Gregory, James Inhofe talked about the impact of losing a child. “It’s something you

For more than 20 years, KSTZ radio station in Des Moines, Iowa has been granting Christmas wishes for listeners, but this year they received a request unlike any other. Brenda Schmitz wrote into the station, asking them to fulfill three wishes, but there was a catch: Brenda isn´t alive. The wife and mother to four died in August 2011, after losing a battle with ovarian cancer. Her youngest son, Max, was just two at the time. She wrote the letter one month before she passed away and entrusted it with a friend, giving specific instructions not to send it until

President Obama and his top Democrats on Capitol Hill appear to have reset their sights on the Republican-controlled House passing comprehensive immigration reform, instead of a step-by-step process, as lawmakers leave Washington for the Christmas holiday break. The president on Friday appeared to urge the House to back the comprehensive, bipartisan immigration bill the Senate passed this summer -- a departure from recent comments that suggested Obama was OK with the lower chamber’s apparent piecemeal plan. “The Senate bill has the main components of comprehensive immigration reform that would boost our

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — When it came time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of a dam on the Little Red River this fall, former President Bill Clinton came running. But once he arrived in the state, he had more on his mind than just public works. He summoned Mike Ross, who had driven him around rural Arkansas during his race for governor in 1982 and is now running for governor himself, to his presidential library for a visit. “I thought I was going over for a 15-minute meeting with him, and I left two hours later,” said Mr. Ross, recalling a conversation during which Mr. Clinton spoke about everything

HONOLULU- President Barack Obama, hopeful of some rest and relaxation after a bruising year in politics, wasted little time getting his golf game in gear on the first full day of a two-week end-of-year family vacation to his home state of Hawaii. The first golfer hit the links early Saturday afternoon at a Marine Base course on the Mokapu Peninsula, a golf-club shaped piece of land jutting into the Pacific Ocean not far from the Obamas´ rented holiday house. Onlookers lined up along the road to catch a glimpse of the president´s motorcade en route to the links. A smiling

Federal intelligence officials are declassifying eight documents about the origins of controversial surveillance systems created under former President George W. Bush. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) announced on Saturday that it had declassified the court documents dating from 2007 to this year, which the federal government had used to justify keeping the surveillance program secret. Details about the data collection unveiled by former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden have raised alarms about the practice. The new disclosures are part of a long-running lawsuit from a civil liberties group, the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They were ordered

The wrecking ball swung again toward the crumbling Obamacare edifice yesterday. Ironically, it continues to be the Obama administration that is operating the heavy machinery. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced, in the form of a letter to Democratic senators, that Obamacare’s individual mandate tax will be waived in 2014 for persons who had their policies canceled in 2013 due to Obamacare. At this point, after months of on-the-fly pronouncements, delays, and exemptions (often announced, not coincidentally, in the days just before a major national holiday), perhaps nothing should surprise us anymore about Obamacare’s disastrous rollout. But yesterday’s announcement

Over the last several weeks the Obama White House has been executing a media blitz meant to sell Obamacare to the nation—again. As the final maneuver in that plan, the President is releasing several reports on how Obamacare will affect the states. His message: repealing Obamacare will just be too expensive. "These state reports mark the culmination of a multi-week effort by the White House and supporters of reform to bring a renewed refocus on each of these benefits and what the cost of repealing them would mean," a White House official told reporters at The Hill. Obamacare supporters crafted these reports to

The Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame has rallied around its patriarch, saying his controversial comments on homosexuality are "grounded in the teachings of the Bible." But Scripture is fiercely contested ground, and some experts say Phil Robertson misinterprets a key Bible verse. A&E, the network that broadcasts the hugely popular "Duck Dynasty" show, suspended Robertson for a now infamous interview with GQ magazine. In the article, Robertson, who became a born-again Christian in the 1970s after a prodigal youth, is asked to define "sin." Here´s what Robertson says: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around

The cuts to retired service members’ pensions embedded in the budget deal cut by him and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) elicited an overwhelming surge of social media responses.{SNIP} Ryan initially claimed that disabled and injured veterans’ pensions would be exempt from the cuts—a claim he then scrubbed from an official House Budget Committee document two days before the House vote on the budget deal last Thursday. The A&E Network’s suspension of Phil Robertson, star of the most popular reality show in the history of television, for espousing views on homosexuality identical to those found in the New Testament may not be the first PC lynching in the history of our country, but it is certainly now the most prominent. It is also a singular example of how political correctness, via cultural relativism, is used to undermine democracy and freedom of speech and is, at its core, fascistic. Yes, I just used the f-word and quite deliberately. PC and cultural relativism are the godchildren of Martin Heidegger

Judge Robert J. Shelby, whom President Barack Obama appointed to the U.S. District Court in Utah last year, issued an opinion on Friday declaring that a right to same-sex marriage is “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition.” Shelby was confirmed to the federal bench by a voice vote of the Senate on Sept. 21, 2012. There was no debate over his nomination, and no senator objected to his confirmation. He has now issued an opinion that could fundamentally alter American law and culture. “The State’s second argument is that the Plaintiffs are really seeking a new right, not access to an

When Barack Obama sings “Auld Lang Syne” on New Year’s Eve, he will have reason to think back, with a deep sense of nostalgia and not a small amount of regret, on the last time he sang the song. If he gets a lump in his throat as he recollects that glorious night one year ago, who would blame him? After all, he was riding about as high as a man can ride on New Year’s Eve 2012. There he was, almost literally the master of the universe — the canny victor of the 2012 election, having run what was
