Cracker Barrel puts ´Duck Dynasty´
items back on shelves

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store reversed course Sunday, putting back on its shelves the products it had removed because they were tied to a star of the cable hit "Duck Dynasty." In a statement on its Facebook page, Cracker Barrel said, "When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that´s just what we´ve done.

Too late. This initial stupid decision belies a corporate mentality that cannot be condoned. Seeing the light late is better than not at all but as Forest Gump says, "stupid is as stupid does"

Cracker Barrel, your first, kneejerk reaction was to remove these items from your shelves even though they were probably the hottest selling items in the entire store system; my reaction is to avoid your stores.

Makes you wonder who is in charge of their PR department: did they really think their customer base fell more heavily on the GLAAD side? Are they really that out of touch with who actually eats in their restaurants? Pretty pathetic.

Here´s what I think happened. the owners/corporation of Cracker Barrel are rich, liberal, east coast elitists. They believe homosexuality is normal. They have lost touch with just exactly who their clientele is. And it is normal, average, middle-class middle America. That´s probably embarrassing to them. Can´t you just see them at some cocktail party in New York and saying sheepishly to some pointy-headed academic or brain dead holly-wierd actor who asks them what they do and saying, ´yeah, we make money off those fat, homophobic, red-neck, racist knuckle-dragging, spittle spewing troglodytes, but hey, it´s a living.´

#8 - Bingo! I had the same exact thought. Cracker Barrel isn´t the type of place you would normally expect to see siding with Gays something like this. I mean it isn´t exactly home to the ne plus ultra Quiche dish! It´s down home cooking for families and truckers. Who ever is in their marketing department needs to get out in the real world more often.

And in reversing the move, they´ll offend those whose ranting prompted the chain to remove the items in the first place.

Making "avoid offending anyone" your highest priority often winds up offending more than would be offended if you paid no attention to how people feel about you.

Phil was merely quoting I Corinthians 9-10. Verse 11 is also important.

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not
be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men
who have sex with men, 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor
slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what
some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Instead of following the reaction of a red plaid, footsie pajama boy on your board of directors you should have conferred with Charlie Daniels. You were stupid to believe a small percentage of a population would appreciate your decision or support you. You were totally wrong.
Live with it because you can color me gone next time act like Chick fil A and ignore your nor-east idiots on the board of directors.

I sent CB an e-mail thank you for the apology. They made an idiotic, boneheaded mistake attributable to not being familiar with their customers. That made me think about an episode of Undercover Boss where the CEO discovered that the corporate office using focus groups to make decisions about the menu for restaurants hundreds of miles away was causing him to lose loyal customers. He began asking the employees for input regarding their stores.
A&E, CB, whoever, has the right to support whatever they want. I have a right to refuse to do business with them if I disagree. If they lose enough business, they can factor that into their decisions about being vocal on issues.
Explains why Home Depot gets none of my business as long as they allow/encourage the use of their money, name, and logo to support homosexual rights. That´s how it works.

It´s a ´cake & eat it´ thing. A&E can posture ´´self-righteously´´ taking offense to Robertson´s statements, standing with GLAAD & homosexual agenda, and still make a certain amount of money off up-coming season. At our house, however, the entire channel is now blocked.

#26, it´s still an independent corporation, still based in the same Tennessee town where it was founded. The company says its policy is to do what Dan, the founder (all his original investors were local) would have wanted.

It´s publicly traded, and has a board of directors. I think the family and original investors are the major shareholders.

The Cracker Barrel corporate retreat happened a lot sooner that I thought. Obviously some suit in the corporate HQ must have operated his or her calculator and figured out that their customer base consists of a huge number of down home folks and very few big city gay activists.

You would think that any suit with an MBA would have figured out the disastrous result to the bottom line by Cracker Barrel offending home home folks all over the South and the Midwest where most of their restaurants are located, before opening their mouth and stepping in a dog pile.

The people who will really suffer are the wait staff in the Cracker Barrel restaurants, some of who are no doubt gay people, who will see the amounts of their tips diminish as former Cracker Barrel clientele check out other restaurants with many never returning to Cracker Barrel.

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
