A monster off the British coast:
Rusting hulk of World War One German

They were the deadly weapon Germany deployed during World War One. But nearly a century later, all that remains of the former submarine that wreaked havoc on Britain´s defences is a crumbling, rusted wreck. This is the wreckage of a German World War One U-boat which has been marooned on mudflats off the Kent coast for nearly a century. Normally the tip of the boat can be seen surrounded by waves; but low tides following storm surges means that the husk can be seen more fully than usual. Experts say it is the only German submarine, which has lain in

I had the opportunity to explore one of these vessels during a dive off Morehead City, NC. It was at 120 feet, had been a recent discovery and was relatively intact, a very advanced craft for its time. The crews used to buy supplies from the residents of the Outer Banks.

It´s a wonder to me that the Brits can even speak to the Germans today, much less be subject to their EU dominance.

As one who served in a (US) submarine, thanks for posting. Submarines are a marvel of engineering, physics and naval architecture. I will never lose my love for these remarkable vessels.

Any time I see a posting from the Daily Mail, I am not disappointed.

An interesting fact is that there is a WWI U boat sunk in Lake Michigan. I believe somewhere off Chicago in about 200 ft. of water. It was on tour of the US when it was realized that displaying it was in violation of the treaty ending WWI. So it was sunk. Often wondered if any deep divers have visited it.

Commuters getting on and off NJ Transit buses along highways in Bergen and Passaic counties have been climbing over boulders of ice and snow for the past week because no one seemed to know who was supposed to plow the bus stops. One woman hung onto an NJ Transit bus stop sign that poked out of a mound of packed snow on Route 3 east at Passaic Avenue in Clifton as she waited for a bus to New York City on Tuesday morning. Others, grumbling about conditions at the bus stop, walked around the ice and onto a shoulder of

Bowling Green, KY. — A sinkhole collapsed part of the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky on Wednesday, damaging eight cars there but not shutting down the facility. Bowling Green city spokeswoman Kim Lancaster said the hole opened up at about 5:40 a.m. CST Wednesday, setting off an alarm and a call to the fire department. Frassinelli said no one was in the museum at the time. Museum spokeswoman Katie Frassinelli said six of the cars were owned by the museum and two — a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil — were on loan from General Motors.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told a group of college students on Tuesday that race and gender relations are worse now than when he was a kid. Speaking at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida, Thomas, the second black justice to serve on the court, lamented what he considers a society that is more ´conscious´ of racial differences than it was when he grew up in segregated Georgia in the days before — and during — the civil rights era. Bay Bridge´s new problem: leaks

The just-opened eastern span of the Bay Bridge, already beset by questions about flawed welds and cracked steel rods, has a new problem: It leaks. Rainwater is dripping into the steel structure beneath the road deck on the suspension stretch of the span, which is supposed to be watertight, Caltrans said. Outside experts say that could pose a risk of corrosion on a bridge that cost $6.4 billion and is supposed to last well into the 22nd century. "That´s a problem, a big problem," said Lisa Thomas, a metallurgical engineer who studies material failure at a laboratory in Berkeley

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

Powerful winds in the Pacific Ocean, which have driven surface heat deep underwater, could be the reason behind the current ‘pause’ in global warming. This is according to a joint Australian and U.S. study which has looked at why there has been a slowdown in the planet’s global average surface temperature over the past decade. Their research shows that trade winds in central and eastern parts of the Pacific have caused warm surface water to sink to the ocean´s depths, reducing the amount of heat in the atmosphere. Last year, scientists on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the pace of

From its inception, the strategy behind the Obama administration’s implementation of ObamaCare has been simple: to frontload the benefits and postpone the pain and costs of this massive government intrusion into the private sector for as long as possible. This deceitful approach enabled President Obama run for reelection in 2012 on the spurious promise of extending insurance coverage to the poor and those with pre-existing conditions without being held accountable for the problems with the law that would only become apparent in his second term. Michelle Obama´s lust for luxury has always been a bit of a problem for her husband and Democrats in general. Jetting off to five star resorts with a large entourage has too much dissonance with the rhetoric denouncing inequality currently in favor with the left.
