John Adams Begat the Selfie

In his iconic book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R. Covey explained that, according to his research, the first 50 years of success literature in America was predicated on the character ethic: integrity, humility, fidelity, modesty, etc. After World War I, he noticed, the basis of success had shifted to the personality ethic: public image, attitudes and behaviors, and skills and techniques that "lubricate the processes of human interaction." America was on the road to superficiality. Why did this character-personality shift occur? Perhaps because of something John Adams, our first vice president and second president, said: "I must

Erasing Southern History:

When traveling recently to Virginia Beach, I couldn´t help but notice that I was no longer in Yankee land. I was in an entirely different world, one still significantly defined by the Civil War. I passed street after street named after famous southern generals -- General Jackson Drive, General Lee Drive, General Beauregard Drive, and General Hill Drive. Though he was a "general" of a different sort, even General Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, has a boulevard named after him. It was clear to me that Southerners revere their generals. And for good reason. The South´s generals have long been a part of

Individuals who have even visited Israel, or who observe Judaism, or who carry a Bible are banned from Saudi Arabia. Yet Saudi Arabia´s Israel-hating King Abdullah just flew in an Israeli scientist to have dinner with him, to enjoy some royal hospitality, accept a medal and the $200,000 "Arab Nobel Prize." It´s a not-so-subtle message to President Obama: the unthinkable can happen, so don´t assume the Saudis won´t join with Israel to bomb Iran. Obama´s new Iran policy moves the Mid-East closer to war over oil and religion -- Sunni Saudis versus Shia Iranians. There is no more strategic commodity than

Before "if you like your plan, you can keep it," the Obama left made a whole spate of false promises in the realm of sexuality. It´s worth connecting the dots between the folly of ObamaCare, an issue for which I wasn´t personally on the front lines, and the sweeping folly of sexual radicalism, an issue for which I was. In the rhetorical battlefield over sex and sexuality, the left rehearsed and perfected public-opinion warfare. These seasoned tactics led to the triumphal hubris of ObamaCare and the collateral damage of its inexorable implosion. Pick your antique allegory of overconfidence: the Tower of Babel,

"I´ve written two books," Senator Barack Obama told a crowd of teachers in Virginia on the campaign trial in July of 2008. The teachers applauded. "I actually wrote them myself," he added with a wink and a nod, and now the teachers exploded in laughter. They got the joke: Republicans were too stupid to write their books. Although few fussed over Obama´s second book, a first-person memoir/ policy brief published in 2006 titled The Audacity of Hope, Obama´s 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father had emerged as the sacred text in the cult of Obama "There is no underestimating the importance

Elect a Chicago community organizer (twice) as your president and you should not be surprised to find that all he is capable of is spewing propaganda and dividing us by personalizing attacks on those who oppose his grandiose, wildly impractical efforts at reshaping our lives to suit his sophomoric view of the good life. As the obvious failure of ObamaCare has become evident to all but his most blinkered cultists, Obama fell back this week on upping the propagandizing and deflecting attention from his failures with even more lies. His organizing arm OFA (Organizing for America) urged supporters to use this year´s

Those who wrote the PPACA legislation were much more brilliant than most conservatives have given them credit for. They have hidden a landmine in the way it all works that will ensure an eventual takeover of the entire health care industry by the government. Let me first clarify my professional interest. I have been a vendor of software and services to both insurance companies and providers, and therefore have a deep understanding of the health care industry and what the ACA will do to it. I do not work for any insurance companies or medical providers, nor do I own stock

If you think ObamaCare is bad, just wait till you hear the new "peace" agreement that is due to be imposed on the Middle East over the coming weeks. Even if it works, a giant if, it will make the world much more dangerous: 1. Iran will have nuclear weapons, or it will be balanced right on the edge -- within one month or less to make nukes. 2. Saudi Arabia and Egypt will go nuclear, to balance Iran. 3. America´s role as a guarantor of peace will be blown, crushed by Obama´s betrayal of Israel and the Arabs. How fitting that abortion zealot and self-proclaimed Marxist Gloria Steinem received the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Wednesday from Barack Hussein Obama. The male-bashing, anti-family, anti-American Steinem beamed as the guy who voted three times against a partial-birth abortion ban while in the Illinois state Senate placed the medal around her neck. What exactly is the meritorious contribution Steinem has made to our national interests that would warrant such an honor? Ever since the radical feminist attended an "abortion speak-out" in 1969 hosted by the radical man-hating group Redstockings, she was "instantly committed" to the abortion movement.

If no one else, WND, the New York Post, and now Fox News have started paying serious attention to an urban pastime known as "the knockout game" or occasionally as "polar bear hunting," a phenomenon that has caused at least seven deaths and countless serious injuries. The "polar bear" refers to the invariably white or at least non-black victim of a hunt by a young black male, usually one of a pack of the same. The hunters tend to prey on those who seem vulnerable. This includes old people, women, children, and, most often, clueless male liberals-- like the Pittsburgh teacher

With the "fumbled" rollout of Obamacare giving us all a 24/7 inundation of administration statements such as: "This is the law of the land, it was voted on by Congress, upheld by the Supreme Court and will be enforced by a rabid pack of gun-toting IRS agents." Alright, I confess, I made up that last bit about the gun-toting IRS agents. Neither Obama nor his talking sock puppets ever said that -- at least out loud. Is this man simply expressing his beliefs or spewing bigotry?Either way, Phil Robertson, the patriarch in A&E´s "Duck Dynasty," won´t be duck calling on air anytime soon. The network suspended him after slamming gays in a magazine interview. In the January issue of GQ, Robertson said homosexuality is a sin and puts it in the same category as bestiality and promiscuity. "It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man´s anus. That´s just me. I´m just thinking: There´s more there! She´s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was hospitalized early Friday morning as a “precaution” after feeling ill, a spokesman said, adding that doctors concluded "everything is normal" after testing. “Early this morning, Senator Reid was not feeling well and as a precaution decided to go to the hospital. Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. He is alert, resting and feeling better,” spokesman Adam Jentleson said in a statement. "Doctors have asked that he remain in the hospital for observation so he will not be working today." The Senate is set to finish its business for the year on Friday.

The suspension of Phil Robertson from A&E’s Duck Dynasty is outrageous in a nation that values freedom, according to social critic and openly gay, dissident feminist Camille Paglia. “I speak with authority here, because I was openly gay before the ‘Stonewall rebellion,’ when it cost you something to be so. And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech,” Paglia, a professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, said on Laura Ingraham’s radio show Thursday. “In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as well as they have

The Obama administration Thursday night significantly relaxed the rules of the health-care law for millions of consumers whose individual insurance policies have been canceled, saying they could buy bare-bones health plans or entirely avoid the requirement that most Americans have health insurance. The surprise announcement, four days before the Dec. 23 deadline for people to choose coverage that begins on Jan. 1, triggered an immediate backlash from the health insurance industry and raised new fairness questions about a law intended to promote affordable and comprehensive coverage. “This type of last-minute change will cause tremendous instability in the marketplace and lead

The A&E Network’s suspension of Phil Robertson, star of the most popular reality show in the history of television, for espousing views on homosexuality identical to those found in the New Testament may not be the first PC lynching in the history of our country, but it is certainly now the most prominent. It is also a singular example of how political correctness, via cultural relativism, is used to undermine democracy and freedom of speech and is, at its core, fascistic. Yes, I just used the f-word and quite deliberately. PC and cultural relativism are the godchildren of Martin Heidegger

It’s not unusual for President Obama to tweet out messages in support of his signature health care law, but a photo attached to one online missive is not getting the type of hype the White House had hoped for. Phil Robertson´s anti-gay comments aren´t the only part of his interview with GQ causing controversy. America may be on the verge of a long-needed discussion over the limits of discourse on homosexual acts. Phil Robertson, patriarch of the family that stars in Duck Dynasty, the most popular program in the history of cable television, was interviewed by GQ Magazine, and was asked what in his mind is sinful: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there." (snip) Robertson spoke of homosexual behavior - i.e., acts. He took care not to characterize homosexuality per se as sinful. This is quite consistent with Christian doctrine of loving the sinner while hating the sin. That crucial point
