‘Real’ Rednecks

So rednecks need to be politically correct now? Wait, before the National Association of Rednecked Persons attacks me, let me be clear that I don’t mean “redneck” as an insult. Indeed, Redneck Pride has been on the rise ever since Jeff Foxworthy got rich informing people they “might be a redneck.” (Some clues: if your school fight song was “Dueling Banjos”; if you’ve ever raked leaves in your kitchen; if your boat hasn’t left your driveway for 15 years; if birds are attracted to your beard, etc.) Redneck reality shows have been all the rage: Rocket City Rednecks, My Big

There´s a lot to be said about being a redneck in a redneck state. For one thing it keeps the yuppies out. Another is just how much fun it is to see how much you can make said yuppies and progressives swallow about how ignorant and unsophisticated you are, not realized we´re laughing up our sleeves at them.

Good article!

In our business, we deal with many rednecks as employees. They are good people, mostly religious people and not haters. They have the same trials and tribulations in their lives as any of us and yes, they live in houses with flush toilets and electricity. Most importantly, they work for a living and contribute to the good of society.

What I object to is the allegation that Robertson equated homosexuality to bestiality. Jonah must have tossed that in for filler, it´s a given that he´s far too intelligent to read that statement in context and believe that that´s what Robertson said. He knows better.
So why the perpetuation of the MSM´s deliberate misinterpretation of that segment? It wouldn´t surprise me coming from someone at the WP/NYT, etc. But from this source, it does.
It´s a little thing but it bothers me coming from Jonah Goldberg. It´s carelessly disingenuous.
We get enough of that from the other side.

Texas Race Has Democratic Party Squirming

AUSTIN, Texas—As it makes a bid for relevance in the Lone Star State, the Texas Democratic Party is contending with a "Kinky" problem. The state party had lined up a preferred slate of candidates under gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis for this fall, as it seeks to win a statewide office for the first time since 1994. But Richard "Kinky" Friedman, a cigar-chomping, cowboy-hat-wearing humorist, crashed the party. He knocked out the establishment Democrats´ favored candidate, Hugh Asa Fitzsimons III, in this month´s primary for agriculture commissioner, a powerful position that oversees an agency with 700 employees and a $550 million annual

It’s an unseasonably warm February afternoon in Terlingua, and the power of the cloudless sky’s white sun reflected off the pale desert dirt is so overwhelming it bleaches the color out of everything it touches. Everything except the jalapeño-red facade of the Chili Pepper Cafe and Michael Drinkard’s lizard-patterned green shirt. Drinkard works with the Terlingua chapter of the Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend, a nonprofit that serves as the community’s de facto social services office, handling everything from domestic violence to food shortages. Right now, he says over a Texas-size iced tea, he should be planning the center’s

It´s easy to understand why Rand Paul, Kentucky´s junior senator, is his state´s breakout political star. On Wednesday afternoon, I was on hand to see the 51-year-old libertarian Republican at Berkeley -- hardly a right-wing redoubt -- bring a crowd of college students to their feet not once but twice with a speech assailing the federal surveillance regime. (Snip) On sizzle, Paul wins in a walk. But anybody interested in the outcome of the Republican identity crisis needs to get to know McConnell. NEW ORLEANS -- I came to Louisiana to do some reporting on Sen. Mary Landrieu´s bid to win a fourth term in a tough political year. But before heading to the key parishes that will determine Landrieu´s fate this November, I stopped by the Lower Ninth Ward to see how rebuilding efforts are faring nearly nine years after Hurricane Katrina. I visited one particular spot — the area where in August 2005 a flood wall holding the waters of the Industrial Canal broke, setting off a calamity that continues to this day. The destruction was total; the rebuilding is at best

Union representatives from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are now accompanying federal government safety inspectors on site visits to review labor complaints at nonunion private businesses, The Daily Caller has learned. SEIU and other labor unions can accompany the government inspectors on site visits due to a quiet and contested Obama administration rule clarification issued last year in response to a request from a union representative. SEIU agents recently accompanied an inspector from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a division of the Department of Labor, on three visits to nonunion work sites under contract with the Houston-based janitorial

And now they’re holed up in an $8,350-a-night “presidential suite” at the Westin Hotel in Beijing. Aren’t presidential suites supposed to be reserved for, oh I don’t know, presidents? Some lies just won’t go away. In February the Washington Post published an article with the following headline: “Why There’s No Democratic Version of the Koch Brothers’ Organization.” It was the umpteenth attempt to explain, in a particularly simplistic manner, how the millionaires and billionaires who donate money to the Democratic Party are nothing, absolutely nothing, like those meanie cancer research philanthropists Charles and David Koch. The author, Reid Wilson, interviewed “Democratic strategists who deal frequently with high-dollar donors,” and these Democratic strategists told him, strategically, that their high-dollar donors are better than Republican ones. “For the Koch brothers, electing the

He became a national personality because he persuaded his family cult of several dozen children, grandchildren and in-laws to follow his absurd crusade. Many of the Phelps progeny are lawyers, so they sustained their sect by litigation, often against their adversaries, while spending reputedly hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to demonstrate around the country. Jimmy Carter has been very active in the decades since his presidency, and his successors have occasionally called for his advice. Except, it turns out, the current occupant of the office. Mrs. Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy only, and shy from the more controversial topics that plague U.S.-China relations, namely human rights and economics. No reporters accompanied the family on the trip. “The nature of her visit is really quite

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at
