Gun accidents in Florida are
double the national average.

Florida Times-Union, by Staff

It’s not armed robbers or warring gangs who send the greatest percentage of gunshot survivors to Florida emergency rooms. It’s people who shoot someone, or themselves, accidentally. Four out of every 10 people who are rushed to a Florida hospital or emergency room with a nonfatal wound were shot by accident, according to hospital data collected by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and published by the Florida Department of HealthIt’s a far bigger problem in Florida than elsewhere — double the national average the past three years — according to numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Comments:
The article singles out Orange County. These are the same people who elected Alan Grayson to Congress.

You can´t fix stupid. That applies to gun owners as much as it does Obama devotees. Yes, there are people that given a loaded gun are so stupid, or careless, that they may unintentionally shoot themselves or others. That is not the fault of the gun.

When did 40% become ´the greatest percentage´?

Further....as greater gun ownership reduces crime, the ratio of accidents to crime would have to increase.

This is a good thing, you idiots.

Article looks like some pro-gun control advocates agitating. FL legislature banned Drs asking gun control questions and were sued and got reversed by a judge. Only injury case cited was teenager playing basketball w 357 magnum and got shot & paralyzed & agreed was illegal for minor in possession of firearm. Nothing happening here that ´needs fixing´ - just some advocacy group with an agenda trying to spend some of OUR tax money to a) support their snoopiness, and b) steal some liberty.

"There are steep costs to providing medical care to victims such as Mario."

You will see this argument more frequently if Obamacare continues. Once the taxpayers become responsible for the medical costs of individuals many will think they have a fiduciary responsibility to regulate "dangerous" behavior. The argument was widely used in the tobacco lawsuits. It will be expanded as taxpayers become more and more involved in day to day commerce.

Any statistics that come from this government or any agency that is funded by this government are questionable.

Let´s see the research; the raw data and the methodoligy used to determine these numbers.

Also, show me the numbers regarding how well the state is prosecuting current offenders. If it isnt in the 75 to 90 percent range, then they are not doing enough with their current laws; no new laws are needed.

Well, we’re all-too used to this kind of “trust me” reporting. The shot guy tells the hospital it was an accident. He doesn’t mention the name of the guy who “accidentally” shot him; he wants to get patched up and go get that guy himself. Then if that guy survives, he will also tell the hospital that it was an accident.

We know this story well by now. Youse can quit trying to fake us out with it. At least come up with a different half-truth.

The survey consists of survivors. I can´t help but wonder about the ratio of non-survivors. Those who shoot purposefully tend to shoot to kill.

3 rules for guns:
1. Every gun is loaded
2. never put you finger on the trigger until you´re ready to shoot.
3. never point the gun at anybody, including yourself.

RULE ONE:
NEVER, EVER, even for one second, point a gun at something you are not willing to put a bullet through. All else is extra.

Key point to remember about gun "accident" reports. Almost always, the person that caused it is LYING about the particulars because they know how stupid they were in LOADING the gun and PULLING the trigger.

Guns do NOT go off if a person doesn´t first load it and then pull the trigger - this is 100%. Most have one or more safety devices which have to be defeated before pulling the trigger. Guns designed since the 1920s or so are physically not able to fire if dropped unless actually broken.

This is much like the "unintended acceleration´ cases in cars, which are caused by accidentally pushing on the throttle instead of the brake. PEOPLE are the cause, but they swear it was the machine.

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from
