Huge backlash mounts over suspension
of ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson

Washington Times (D.C), by Cheryl Wetzstein

Original Article

For a few hours, it looked like Americans would quietly accept the suspension of popular “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson for his unfiltered opinions about sin, sex, gays and blacks in a magazine interview. But then, as if on cue, hundreds of thousands of fans of the openly Christian, duck-hunting businessman took to social networks and started their backlash. As of Thursday night, more than 1.1 million people “liked” the “Stand With Phil Robertson” Facebook page, while about the same number had clicked their support for another Facebook page called “Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back On Duck

A&E killed their cash cow to bow to the progressives. I hope the Robertsons leave A&E and start another network. I think their may be a few heads rolling at A&E for their overreaction.

More to the point we have been relentlessly bashed with accusations of every kind of "ism" for reasons only known to the Leftist agenda. We are accused of "Racism" for simply criticizing this President, "Terrorism" for being critical of this administration´s policies and practices, and "Bigotry" if you prefer to be Straight. For the most part we have mostly ignored these childish rantings, but there comes a time when you can no longer turn the other cheek. People are just flat out tired of the Political Correctness and all it´s phony, self-righteousness, the In-Your-Face boldness that has grown along with it and especially the toll it has taken on our country and way of life!

That´s kind of a snarky lede coming from the Washington Times. "...as if on cue..." makes it sound as though the writer thinks someone is coordinating the reaction, you know, the way the left coordinates faux outrage, such as yet another attempt by the Gay Mafia to silence anyone who dares express an alternative point of view. Sad, when did heterosexuality become the "alternative" lifestyle?

I hope this flap and backlash is the tipping point we´ve been waiting for. Maybe the DD family ought to say "We´re the ones we´ve been waiting for"

Phil is turning out to be like Rush. Rush is always being accused by the Left of telling his listeners what to think when he is merely articulating the beliefs of his audience.
I´ve never seen DD (don´t have cable) but it seems to me that Phil, too, was merely articulating the beliefs of an audience that is far huger, dare I say much more mainstream, than the gay shriekers.

Here´s a thought regarding the A&E boycott. I think regardless of the outcome of the current situation we should just stop watching that network, i.e., the boycott should be permanent. I say this in light of A&E´s statement issued with the suspension:

...A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.

I don´t care to give my support to champions of a corrupt, twisted, abnormal, unhealthy, depraved, perverse, aberrant, immoral, debauched, debased, degenerate, evil lifestyle.

If I want to watch Duck Dynasty, I´ll get it on DVD from the library.

Phil Robertson understands he does not need A&E in his life. So he enjoys his unbound freedom to speak his beliefs without regret.

The executives at A&E do not get this - and that is what seperates them from what is truly righteous and good about this country.

Talk about speaking truth to power, just watch Phil.

Political correctness is really a code word for intolerance.

The left has used this hammer to try and control the message while they continue to pollute America with their progressive garbage. In a free country, this does not ultimately work, UNLESS, the free give up their freedoms.

Who will stand up against this statism? This power grab? This takeover by communist bigots and tyrants?

Stay tuned for next week´s exciting episode.

I have never watched one single episode of Duck Dynasty but from what I have read and heard about Phil Robertson, he appears to be a hard working, Christian man who is strong enough and loving enough to have kept his family at his side his whole life. How many of his "progressive" critics can say the same.

I support Phil and his right to express his own views to the bottom of my soul and I will never again tune in A&E (except maybe a DD rerun) until the person or persons responsible for this PC sickness is fired and blackballed from television. Duck Dynasty should leave A&E regardless of what happens. They will have no problem finding a home.

Wipe out speech police! Wipe out thought police! Wipe out PC!

If this assault on freedom of speech had come six years ago, it might have gone almost unnoticed. But now we have our federal government threatening the healthcare of the nation, drones killing unindicted Americans sitting at cafes in foreign lands, and a President who selectively enforces laws, arms the drug cartel, sics the IRS on his political enemies, and lies to the American people. A tipping point is being reached in this nation. The people are abandoning tolerance, patience and forbearance.

This is a vitally important but highly dangerous time for our nation. We desperately need a good leader. I believe Ted Cruz is that man and that he will be able to steer this ship of state away from the many shoals that surround us and into a safe harbor. I pray that I am right.

It´s time we ended this assault on personal thought. There are a lot of people I don´t like that I have to work with or for and all that matters is that we get the work done - not what we think of each other.

Yup, A&E stepped in their own intolerance to ingratiate themselves with 2.8% of the population of the US.

Liberal left tolerance is only as far as agreeing with them. You are not allowed to have any other opinion but theirs. If you have your own opinion you are an intolerant, racist, bigoted, homophobe, right wing, tea party, Bible thumping, gun loving fanatic.

George Orwell not only popularized thought control, he made it into the classic best seller "1984" !
"PC", political correctness, is the covert communist way of controlling thought and word usage. It´s an agitating way to censor free thought and open use of words.
The entire TV media and most of the press controls, and is controlled by, political correctness. Even Fox TV !
Calling socialists, democrats, communists by the lovely names of "liberal" or "progressive", is the super extreme example of indoctrinating political correctness.
All those misinformed people who call the Puglosi Reid Feinstein Sawyers the good name of liberal, ARE being
controlled by political correctness.
And for all you folks out there in Linda Vista, PC is a cover up operation to establish more government power over all the people. When Phil dares to describe certain sexual acts, he´s simply breaking new ground in a media that has already exploited almost everything there is to exploit !
Realistically, there is no better way to attract even more new viewers, than what we´ve just witnessed. Watching the show for the first time, Paw trying to find the right frog down by the stream for Maw, loaded with clear truisms, is about as much of a real loving relationship, as ever has been given to an audience on the screen.

This show is the other end of ALL IN THE FAMILY, and, religious or not, "DUCK DYNASTY", will, WILL ! Help Save this Great Nation !

Duck Dynasty was rich before A&E came along and they will continue to get rich. A&E didn´t create them or contribute to their success. Phil Robertson doesn´t need that liberal slanted network who unsuccessfully previously tried to spice and dice it up.
Let A&E go into the wilderness with this one. If A&E wanted to commit suicide showing it´s solidarity with gays then they should replace Duck Dynasty with DickDynasty. They might see how many viewers that would attract.
Some people choose to be knuckleheads.

If we can finally get rid of political correctness ( censorship) as it applies to homosexuals, maybe we can also get rid of it as it applies to Muslims. That would go a long way toward beefing up our national security.

Tyranny of the Minority. And a wee minority at that.
The gay activists who have pushed so hard for our tolerance, understanding and acceptance are now trying to shut down any differing views, no matter how many centuries or millenia held, or deeply felt.
Their style is shrill and dismissive, their tactics thuggish, and their spirit is totalitarian.

Who exactly is forcing gays to watch DD? Is someone holding guns to their heads? A friend of mine compared conservatives and progressives very clearly: "If a conservative is listening to the radio and does not like the content or the music being played he changes the station. A progressive wants to shut it down permanently."
I don´t watch A&E at all so I have never seen DD but Phil is doing what all Christians are called to do ~ witness and tell others about salvation through Christ.
The whole family does that on the show.
God uses some very unlikely people to further His ends and in this case, I think he chose Phil. I agree with the poster who said he feels the end times are near. If God is not yet ´fed up´ with us He has got to be close to that point.
Look to the heavens ~ 4 blood moons and a solar eclipse by the end of 2015. That HAS to mean something!
I´m thinking positively; it could be that we will be spared the 2016 Clinton campaign.

Christians in this country have repeatedly turned the other cheek tolerating the encroachment of liberalism into every facet of American society, including religion. This is an opportunity for people of faith to make clear to our Lord, to this country, and to the world, Christians are willing to boldly declare that faith by proclaiming their reverence for God.

A public display of faith needs to be expressed not only in support of Phil Robertson, but also to resist the dictates of the government taxpayer dollars used for a wide scope of abortion-related funding and treatment.

I enjoy Duck Dynasty, their antics make me laugh. I do not know any of them personally but have a friend that does. She shuttled them around the area while they were doing several charitable events and has maintained contact. She crochets hats for their charity that clothes the less fortunate. I understand ´the Ducks´ do a lot of random acts of kindness in Louisiana.

Why would a men´s fashion mag run a story about a man who wears cammo? A&E has been trying to spice up this show and Phil has had his fill.

Now its too late for them to walk it back, and the Gay Community has been put on notice to keep their amoninable acts for Anus pleasure to themselves.

I think GLAAD should demand that A&E divest themselves of any and all profits, from royalties and such a well as advertising, derived from Duck Dynasty--retroactively. Surely they don´t want anything to do with such "dirty" money. And if A&E is true to their expressed principles, they will do so. But I wouldn´t hold my breath waiting.

I submit that he does not love his brother who supports him while he self-destructs. Who would support his brother as he sits in the tracks of a speeding train? I would call that enabler hateful. Homosexual behavior is self-destructive. Recent studies show homosexuals have a substantially greater risk of suffering from psychiatric problems than do heterosexuals. Data shows that homosexuals have higher rates of suicide, depression, bulimia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse The LA Times recently reported that methamphetamine usage was 20 times higher among homosexuals than the general population. Further, homosexual behavior is repulsive and drives away the Holy Ghost. It seemed that 99.9 percentage of the entire globe knew this intuitively until just recently. Are men and women living in the 21st Century smarter or more enlightened than those of the last 1000 generations? Those that think they are so modern and so superior in their support of homosexual behavior are in truth walking in darkness. They are complicit in their brother suffering during mortality and complicit in alienating their brothers and sisters from our Heavenly Father in the next life. It is those who invite all in its grip to come away from destruction. It is incredible that there has been very little open, rational discussion of homosexual behavior that is known to cause premature death, psychiatric disorders and disproportionate illegal drug use for its participants. Neither has there been much media criticism of homosexual rampant promiscuity.

I´ve only read about half the posts here so far, so my apologies if this comment has already been offered - wouldn´t surprise me if it had.... we L-Dotters are a cohesive, coherent group.

But ... here´s what I think happened: Phil Robertson quoted THE BIBLE. The gay-leftists jumped on **him** for what **he** said. But we all know - knew immediately - that they were really attacking was what´s in THE BIBLE. They just used Phil as the face of their target, and A&E took it to the next step of escalation: validation.

Attack Phil, and you offend his fans. Attack our Bible and its lessons THROUGH Phil, and you have effectively attacked all of us. So how can we NOT respond? If we don´t, who will? If we don´t start standing up for our Christian beliefs, our God, and rights as Americans to speak our beliefs, when will we?

This is a tipping point. Obamacare will be there to deal with after this is over. The abuse our politicans have just inflicted upon our military pensioners is being addressed, and it won´t go away either.

But without our First Amendment freedoms, our Second may come into play. And none of us really want what that will bring. If the lefty misfits can denounce us for speaking our minds, well lefties, right back atcha. And in case you hadn´t noticed, you may be louder, but we´re MORE, and when we speak, you´ll hear us.

Listen up, now.

This Robertson ´Duck Dynasty´ protest by gays is merely an excuse to attack and marginalize Christianity for its generally biblical adherence to precepts that oppose homosexuality. Gays are obsessed with legitimizing their lifestyle and are quite willing to destroy anything or anyone who stands in their way. Their segment of our society is biologically dysfunctional yet THEY insist on controlling the standards that Christianity elucidates? I am not Christian but I understand their agenda only too well.

I suspect A&E execs are embarrassed at the success of this show. The early promos made it look like it was another laugh at the dumb rednecks shows. But it seems the Robertsons had the last laugh. They refused to become different people in front of the cameras ad turned the show into one in which the audience laughs with them.

If anything was on cue it was that a reporter for a trendy lifestype magazine would pursue the line of questioning he did, that GLAAD jumped on the opportunity and that A&E moved so swiftly to suspend Phil.

As with Paula Deenm the network was looking for an excuse, though in Paula´s case they could cite that her ratings had fallen off.

As #36 points out, Disney has a 50% ownership of A & E; therefore, one would think that the head honchos at Disney would have given more thought to the decision (if they had any input) to suspend Robertson. While the children who love the Disney characters won´t have a clue about this commotion, but if parents and grandparents make even a modest cutback on buying Disney products or visiting Disney Land and Disney World, Disney may feel the displeasure of DD viewers.

Homosexuals CAN´T allow honest discussion about their lifestyles so their only defense is the demonize opponents. They have managed to convince politicians they are victims and a viable group that should be pampered and pandered. And the idiots in power these days who live by no moral standards will pander to any group for their vote. So they have produced PC legislation that allows gays to call anybody disagreeing with them as vile hateful bigots instead of proving their glorious rainbow lifestyle.

What if homosexual acts REALLY ARE BAD? Who determines what is good or bad? Wouldn´t our Creator? And what does our Creator say about it? It´s clear and that ends the discussion. For the sake of argument let´s just say there is no Creator, what then? Then my views and opinions are JUST AS VALID AS ANYBODY ELSE´S, including gays and what I believe carries just as much weight as others.

If homosexuality is so good then let us all be gay and see what happens to the human race after, say, 50 years. Humanity will have annihilated itself.

God wants what is best for humans but I would think all humans would too, but this flies in the face of what´s good for humans. Something that can destroy the human race in just a few short years cannot be good for humans or can it be of God.

Since I have written my opinion I am subject to ridicule and banishment by some people. I pray to God that won´t happen, but we live in a corrupt culture.

Phil Robertson also stopped A&E from putting in phony "bleeps" as though the cast was cursing, and convinced them to stop cutting out the name of Jesus from the dinner prayer that ends each show. A hostile interview in GQ magazine which is not even out yet gave Phil the opportunity to express more of his convictions...which many of us share.

There´s an air of Libertarian spirit and anti-PC anger running through this thread. But #27 wrote something that needs to be challenged:

" Unless he refuses to hire someone because they´re LGBT or whatever, who cares?"

Why, in a supposedly free country, do we accept someone else (or some government agency) telling us who we may or may not hire?? [Is it right for a judge to tell a baker that he MUST bake a wedding cake for a pair of lesbian homosexuals?]

It’s about time.
The news media, the politicians, the special interest groups, primarily the left lending liberals folks, the PC bunch have insulted, criticized, and generally been downright ugly toward Christians for a long time.
It’s about time that Christians stand up and defend themselves.
The liberals do not thrash Muslims – they don’t dare.
The gay groups raise hell when homosexual and same sex marriages are criticized.
Abortion groups stand up when the life of the unborn are defended.
Radical environmentalist get their way.
Unions will retaliate if criticized.
Teachers are defended, right, or wrong
Black’s march and riot.
Christian individuals and Christian groups are thrashed saying what they believe.
It’s about time. You see Muslim, gays, blacks, liberals, in your face if criticized.
Today, “I am a Christian and I am in your face”

I don´t really care what the LBGT Community or the Fundamental Christians or A&E think of each other.

I enjoy watching Duck Dynasty and I applaud their return to traditional American values of family solidarity, good work, tolerance and religion. I see them promoting only the positive aspects of these attitudes and not trying to find pressure points that would lead to a serious family division, a virtue we all should consider.

That said, I think A&E was between a Rock and a Hard Place. In fairness to their stock holders, they must do whatever promotes their best financial position.

If A&E and Duck Dynasty part ways, they each can and will survive. And I will follow Duck Dynasty to whatever channel they home in on, and I will likely not watch A&E again because the rest of their programming isn´t interesting to me.

I read a letter to the editor about this. Some of the "comments" were hilarious. They talked about how wealthy this show has made them and didn´t understand that the show is because they were already gazillionaires because of their American ingenuity. This is what the show is about. Take some "rednecks" from the swamp and in America even they can become successful. It just further supports the idea that a baby born in a "holler" in Kentucky, the swamps of Louisiana or East St. Louis can become wealthy because we are given equal opportunity in America. This is why we left England under a ruler under a system that destined our position in life as we were born instead of giving everyone the same opportunity

In the final analysis, it is the American people who have allowed sexually, spiritually, morally, socially and politically DYSFUNCTIONAL groups to steer this nation towards the abyss. These groups seek only to feed their dysfunctionality regardless of the cost to the nation. If America is to avoid it´s own destruction, we had better have enough "normals" who are motivated to elect honest leaders whose REAL agenda is to protect and defend the US Constitution and the American people.

ott Cracker Barrel and any other sponsors who cave to the Gay Power people. Incrementally when a minority gets accommodation the left asks for more and more until they are just part of the Democrat party power seekers.

The power to dictate to others is what I dislike as in the Harry Reid, Pelosi use of reconciliation or cloture to push through what they couldn´t with regular traditional Congressional rules and the Liberal courts dictating policy that the obama socialist/commie regime couldn´t get and promised they wouldn´t try for to fool the idiots who voted for them.

The mainstream media who facilitate it are twice disdained in my book--fifth column social-democrat activists.

So read today that TV has taken us away from our past and future connections with the generations to our downfall and susceptibility to the deceivers now in power. Could be why DD has resonated with so many--even though much of the "reality´ is obviously staged. Nothing so believable as when one wants to believe and we in the red states want to believe in goodness, the Kingdom of Light over the Kingdom of Darkness whose dark and grey pall hangs over the country now IMO.

In any case nothing much is worth watching and the Storage Wars with the gays who can talk trash with impunity aren´t getting my view--storage wars New York thumbs down. As well as Cracker Barrel or even Walmart if go Bible quoting phobic

So how about that A$E and GQ? "Oh, what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to help the deceivers" or something like that?

The Father of Lies and the Masters of Deceit have work hand in hand and not to our benefit temporally or spiritually IMO. They love chaos and this time they are getting it mirrored back.

For potential stockholders, the imprimatur of Mr. Bush, who joined InnoVida as a paid consultant and a member of the board of directors, conferred credibility on the young start-up. That credibility did not last long. “On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist
