IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - The City of Idaho Falls told an auto sales company to take down its flags honoring the military. "We´re just here supporting the troops," said Autos 4 Less owner Jonathon Long. "We´re even doing a Christmas donation box for veterans." Long was told to take these flags down after the city apparently received complaints. "With that notice, I pulled the flags down, and after thinking about it overnight, I became more and more upset and decided to do something about it," Long said Wednesday. Long contacted the code enforcement officer and was told the flags are considered portable signs and do

"Portable signs" require a permit. Get the permit(s) and put it/them back up!

(This ordnance was intended to keep the sidewalks clear and safe.)

My town council has become more liberal and I watch out for added regs that are overbearing. Liberals don´t understand that
anything that they rule may encroach on others´ freedom while in pursuit of their utopian non-realistic goals. They make no allowances for individual cases. Others think that any exception, no matter how reasonable, gives them the absolute right to do the same, and these others are not always correct. Blame it on the lawyers and our impulse to run to them instead of negotiating informally.

I was prohibited from flying the National flag, the stars and stripes from my business for the exact same reason. The ´open´ flag I understood.

But many advertisements, attention getters like simply colored flags, kites, blow up things are considered advertising by this city and others. It a fine line, one shop owner on our main drag put all this in motion because he was essentially trying to advertise everything is business did with multiple signs block the sidewalk in both directions at his corner location.

The work around now is grossly bright colored buildings, bit just a sign, the whole building is a nearly florescent color.

Sort of chicken or egg question. Without abuses by the citizen/business owner the city wouldn´t have had any reason to ,pass such laws.

Thanks immigrants....

While I support supporting our troops and veterans and agree that flying the American flag should not be restricted, these are not flags in the sense of a rectangular US flag (watch the video). (From their design and configuration) I can see why the city council would call them signs. That being said, surely the city council has more important things to do than to harass this businessman showing his patriotism and support for our veterans and troops.

The United States has been at war in Afghanistan longer than any conflict in our history. Regardless of what one might think of the war in terms of strategic value, it has been a brutal, deadly conflict, seemingly without end. But as U.S. forces prepare for the conflict’s end, we can already see the changes to U.S. casualty rates. Indeed, the month that just ended last night, March 2014, marked an extraordinary milestone: as Hayes Brown noted, it was “the first time in more than a decade that there were zero U.S. fatalities among American troops engaging in combat.” In Iraq, the

The Bay Area Toll Authority spent $9.4 million to build a temporary entrance so the Bay Bridge´s bike path could be ready when the new eastern span opened to traffic in September. And now - after less than seven months - the half-mile-long connector is being torn down to make way for a new, permanent gateway. That puts the cost to provide temporary bike and pedestrian access to the bridge at about $47,000 a day.

Everyone knew there would be some gun owners flouting the law that legislators hurriedly passed last April, requiring residents to register all military-style rifles with state police by Dec. 31. But few thought the figures would be this bad. That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents, according to estimates by people in the industry, including the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation. No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps

The journalists at ABC News offered yet another high profile experiment to terrify the parents of America into not owning guns. In an hour-long special on Friday night, Diane Sawyer and David Muir hid pink guns at the playground of an elementary school in an effort to see if young girls would play with them. Unsurprisingly, the young children did. The Young Guns program also included the obvious revelation that firearms shouldn´t be concealed in backpacks and with candy. A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

As the midterm elections approach and the administration’s incompetence, along with the distaste for the president’s signature ObamaCare legislation, drive the party’s chances down further, the make-believe coalition of opposites may well crumble if the opposition doesn’t blow it.
