The political columnist you must read

Ron Fournier is on fire. Liberated (my word) from the responsibilities of editing National Journal, the 20-year-veteran writer has become Washington´s most trenchant, most compulsively readable political critic. Liberal or conservative, libertarian or other, you´d be wise to start reading him. (To dispense with the compulsory narcissism: I used to work for Fournier at National Journal, and I consider him a mentor, so, yeah, I´ve got skin in the game. Ron Fournier is to be viewed with caution. He and Ambinder have been carrying water for Obie since at least 2007.

And their mutual distaste (to put it mildly) for Republicans is evident in this puff piece.

" Obama, as president, has a responsibility to lead, even if Republicans are the worst, most implacable, most irresponsible group of American politicians on the face of the continent, which, by the way, they are." At least he has the GOP Moderates pegged.

A chief criticism is that Republicans don´t defy their base? This comment exposes the author´s bias, that only voting with the Democrats would make the Republicans more honorable. Poppycock.

Take a look at the deficit charts and it´s clear how they skyrocketed after the donks took congress in 2006. Please tell us how the party that brought trillion dollar deficits is the more responsible one.

Plus we have election fraud, race baiting, destruction of the health insurance system, and general nastiness and vulgarity. A person sure has to overlook a lot to think the GOP is the worse of the two.

Meh. Another equivalency hawker.

Look, there´s plenty not to like in both parties but if you love America, there´s only one party to cheer for. That makes it impossible for me to complain that much about the Republicans because even while they blow individual plays, they´re all about moving the ball downfield for America.

Yes, W got bad ratings and yes, Obie is there in the ratings or lower... the difference is that the press worked overtime to deliver bad ratings for Bush and has worked overtime to gift Obama with good ratings. Anyone who doesn´t acknowledge that is a blind fool.

So... Meh.

Imagine a situation in which an earthquake destroys a suspension bridge over a deep canyon. A passenger train is speeding toward the location, and those in charge realize there is a potential problem ahead but choose instead to argue about the ambient temperature in the passenger cars, the food service, and whether they will reach their final destination on time. A few people are quite disturbed when they learn of the tragedy about to unfold if the train isn’t halted, but they are labeled as “alarmists” who really are not sophisticated enough to understand the situation. Now! This is interesting for a number of reasons, the most obvious reason being that Germany and the U.S. are strong allies but leaked NSA documents revealed the agency spied on chancellor Angela Merkel´s cell phone. It’s an election year, which means the Democrats’ crass politicization of important women’s issues is gearing up once more. Don’t be fooled by President Obama’s new push for pay equity. It sounds good, but it is nothing more than a political ploy to distract from the ever-conspicuous cloud of bad mojo following Democrats around as they brace for the 2014 midterm elections. In the past few election cycles, a the left has done a masterful job of courting women by creating lines of division between Republicans and Democrats where they don’t actually exist. "The U.S. could suffer a coast-to-coast blackout if saboteurs knocked out just nine of the country´s 55,000 electric-transmission substations on a scorching summer day," Rebecca Smith wrote. It´s no secret that North America´s three massive power grids, the interconnected systems that transmit electricity from power plants to consumers, are not invincible. The U.S. power grid is, in fact, big enough to fail. In other words, the grid may be not be the "right" size—big enough to distribute power efficiently, but small enough to prevent widespread blackouts, such as the 2003 blackout that
